Rated 5 out of 5 by from SCT Drum Stripper I know it’s designed for metal, but I use it to clean up reclaimed lumber. It works better than anything else I have tried and my customers love the results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use. Works well except for the most severe stubborn rust. Works for most applications except for where a grinder and wire cup wheel may be needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Scale drum Didn’t seem to take paint off as well as I had hoped, the 40 grit wheel does a much better and faster job. I’ll try it on my frame and see what it does on rust

Questions & Answers

I'm looking for something that will remove Mill scale from new 11 gauge hot rolled sheet metal without damaging the steel underneath. As long as I used a light touch, will this do the trick?

Asked by: Keith
I have a customer who used this to remove light rust from a metal roof. Depending on how much mill scale. And the only way to damage the steel is to use too much force. There are various rollers and grit available to do the job right, look them over, as there should be one that will do the job.

See our wheel selection chart here: https://www.eastwood.com/images/pdf/Contour_SCT_Drum_Chart.pdf We have buffing wheels, but we do not have any grit higher than the 800 grit Trizact band.

I am looking to texture new pine boards to look weathered and raise the grain like sandblasting would. Would any of these drums do that?

Asked by: Jason
This is a nylon bristle drum. It would probably be the best option to generate this sort of graining on the surface in reference.

Working on a house with a painted cinder block foundation in some places in the basement. I want to get back to bare cement so I can use a penetrating sealer. Would this drum remove the paint quickly and how long would it last? Other drums better?

Asked by: PeterD
The 21975 Drum is used for stripping scale and rust on automotive applications and I would recommend the 21970 for paint removal. However we have no testing on painted cinder blocks. If it is a smooth surface I can not see any reason why the Abrasive Drum would not work. It will not remove the paint that is in the crevices.

How long do these drums actually last IE. Can you do a full frame of a Chevelle with one full and a narrow. Frame is pretty clean mostly light surface rust and old spray paint Thanks

Asked by: Durwood
These drums will last a pretty long time but as far as how long- there would be too many variables involved to determine exactly. For a frame, I would think you probably would want 2 if you plan on using this specific drum.

Can this CONTOUR SCT be used to remove a failed spring in bed liner? If so, what drum(s) would you recommend, since I plan on re-coating the bed liner?

Asked by: PanhandleTX
We have never tested this product with bed liner removal. However, the abrasive or the wire wheel drum would more than likely be the best drums that we offer to remove that bed liner.
