Questions & Answers

can these be mixed with a hi temp clear and be brushed on a engine and transmission?

Asked by: Gary
These flakes should not be applied to an engine due to the heat this would expose these flakes to.

I'm no a painter so my question may be dumb to you. I want to paint my pick up purple with the flakes. I primer, then put on base coat, then mix flakes with the clear coat and paint on and then purple followed with clear coat? Thanks

Asked by: mark
You would apply your paint first. Then apply your clear coat with flakes mixed in on top of the paint. Since flakes settle to the surface and are not UV stable so you would then apply straight clear (with no flakes) on top.

can this be added to concrete? (for a counter top application). The project will be wet sanded down to 3000 grit and sealed.

Asked by: Luke
Since they are just flakes it should be possible but we have never tested to see what happens.

What is the difference between the holographic silver flake and the regular silver flake ? Im planning to shoot a silver base with a candy topcoat should I add the flake to the silver or put a clear intercoat with flake over the silver ? Thanks

Asked by: Silent
Holographic flake will give you a color shifting look, silver will just give you a plain silver flake. The flake will pop much more if added into the intercoat coat clear.

We do not recommend our pearls and flakes in powder due to possible damage from high heat.

Can 2k arosole clear be sprayed over top or paint this flake

Asked by: Nelsonb1994
This product is best applied when mixed in with a clear coat. An aerosol would make this impossible. However if you were to apply this to a wet color coat you could clear over top to lock it in.

can these be added to a Polyurathane paint? Do u have a can of mixed colored flakes? Some of the newer Lincoln cars have mixed small sparkles in their paint, maybe I want this effect or just the large silver flakes, can't decide

Asked by: sailorlen
These can be mixed into any paint or clear. It is best in a clear so as to not hide or bury the flake. We do not offer any premixed flakes and paint.

When powdering with the flakes does it leave a smooth finish or do you have to clear after for a smooth finish?

Asked by: Capewell
We do not recommend mixing these into powders as they may melt during the curing process.

What is the difference between the Holographic Flake and the Super Flake and what size gun tip is recommended to spray the flakes.

Asked by: mike2362
Superflake it just the name of it, the holographic flake is the type of finish it provides. You will shoot this out of a 1.3 tip.

The sky is the limit with flakes and pearls. So you can certainly make up custom flakes.

Can I mix that with a single stage paint ?

Asked by: thedemoguy
From a technical standpoint, you can mix these flakes with nearly any paint material. There are no compatibility issues. However, with high-solids materials like single stage paint, you'll have a "hiding" effect. The color pigments in the single stage paint will cover a lot of the flake and will not allow it to be as bright as if you sprayed it mixed in a clear coat over a color instead. Because of this it will take much more flake to get your desired effect.

Has anyone tried these flakes with powdercoat?  The instructions say 50 grams per gallon. How much do you use with 1/2 pound of powder??

Asked by: powderblast
It will vary depending on the intended effect and the color of the powder and flake you're working with. It's best to start with a small amount and make a few test panels to experiment with different amounts of flake.
