The Most Innovative Company in Restoration Has Done it Again!

Paint is the first thing people notice, and the basis for a great paint job is great bodywork. The Eastwood Contour DSB System will allow you to get the results you want with the benefit of almost no dust. The saying goes "90% of the body filler ends up on the floor", and anyone who has sanded filler knows that is completely true. But when you use the DSB System it ends up in your shop vacuum rather than on your clothes, everything in your shop and getting tracked all over the garage and house.

Specially designed Contour DSB Sandpaper has holes that align perfectly with the holes in the sanding blocks. Paper is available in seven standard grits from 40 to 400 and is designed for dry sanding and getting the best finish in filler and primers. When sanding body filler start with 40 or 80 grit and progress through finer grits. Sandpaper is available by clicking Eastwood Elite Contour DSB Dustless Sandpaper.

What sandpaper do I need to use with these sanding blocks?

Always use the Contour DSB Dustless Sandpaper that has holes that align with the holes in the sanding blocks. We have a wide selection that can be found by clicking Eastwood Elite Contour DSB Dustless Sandpaper.

What is Dustless Sanding?

Dustless sanding uses a specially designed block with holes that align with holes in sandpaper. A hose connects the sanding block to a shop vacuum with an adapter to match the hose sizes. A regulator in the hose line allows you to adjust suction to get the best results no matter the substrate or grit of sandpaper you are using.

What are the benefits of dustless sanding?

Anyone who has sanded bodyfiller and primer knows that almost all of it ends up on the floor, your clothes as well as on everything near the car. And we didn't even mention how it gets tracked all through the garage and house. Because the Eastwood Elite DSB System captures 95% of the dust, there is almost none on the floor or on your clothes. It's amazing how clean everything stays compared to using a standard sanding block.

Can I use the DSB System on Drywall?

Absolutely. It's been tested and used on drywall with great results. Just make sure you use the finer grits of sandpaper when sanding.

How long does the sandpaper last?

The PSA Sandpaper for the Contour Elite DSB Sanding Blocks lasts about twice as long as normal PSA sandpaper. I know that you're thinking that because there are holes, there is less surface area for sanding and it probably doesn't last as long. But because the vacuum system quickly removes any dust it's not able to build up and clog the sandpaper. This lengthens the lifespan of the paper and it also saves you time because you don't have to constantly stop sanding to try to unclog your paper. The vacuum system keeps the paper clean so it quickly and easily removes material as you sand.

How many rolls of sandpaper do I need to sand a car?

This really depends on the size of the vehicle and the substrate you're sanding. A standard car with a typical amount of body filler to get panels straight and fill imperfections will take about one roll. Remember you will need multiple grits to get a good paintable surface. You will start with a lower grit like 40 or 80 and then work through some finer grits because the finer grits will remove the scratches left by the heavier grits.

Larger vehicles could take more than one roll per grit. Also, if there is a lot of bodyfiller, that could lead to more rolls being used. But you will use less sandpaper than when using standard sanding blocks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Dustless Sanding Block System This is one of the simplest tools and now a very critical tool for me. I not only have started using it on my 49 Chevy pickup, I have also used it around the house with sheet rock repairs. Sanding sheet rock inside our house is the real acid test. There was no dust to be found except for a few specks on a bit of wooden trim near the wall patch. To be able to sand without wearing a respirator is completely alien to me (as well as not sealing up a room of the house during a renovation project.) It was wonderful to leave my dual cartridge half-face unit in the drawer and I could see so much better without wearing it. The only problem that I had to overcome was learning to adjust the vacuum from my shop vac downward. Too much vacuum and you can't move the sanding block. Once I got that figured out, it was smooth sailing. I especially am looking forward to when I start in earnest sanding down the multiple coats of filler on the 49 Chevy. I was dreading sealing up the garage to contain the dust from entering into the rest of the house. Keep coming up with neat ideas. I need everyone of them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well, significantly reduces dust I saw a demonstration of this by an Eastwood employee at Carlisle & was impressed enough to get one. It works very well, filler dust is significantly reduced. I still wear a dust mask but I no longer look & feel like I'm covered with sanding dust when I'm done. This won't make sanding filler suddenly fun or less tedious, but it won't be as messy. That's a win. This comes with a block, a hose with an adjustable valve. It has an adapter with air control to connect the end of the hose & smaller vac hoses. It has a 2nd larger adapter for connecting to a 1.75” vac hose. The shop vac isn’t included of course. The sanding block itself is lite & stiff but has some minor flex - about the same as a Durablock. I was concerned the hose coming out of the middle of the back of the block might be annoying but it didn't interfere with my using the block at all. It does use specific sandpaper (available from Eastwood) which has holes to match the holes on the vacuum plate. Lining up the holes was easy. Eastwood has a good supply of grits between 80 & 400. Once I dialed in the vacuum the paper didn't load up as much as regular paper. When it eventually loads up just remember keep the vacuum running as you clean the paper (ask me know I know). The hose is long enough to keep the vac out of your way when using it & is pretty flexible. I didn't have any problems feeling like I was tugging the vacuum around behind me. The instructions give details with adjusting the airflow/vacuum based on sandpaper grit. The hose has a valve on it to control airflow & the adapter (between the hose & the vacuum) has rotating ring to increase or reduce vacuum. The instructions give really good starting place based on grit, a little fine tuning on the fly & dust is seriously reduced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Dust Control I was very interested in using the DSB because I wanted to keep my garage free of bondo dust. The DSB was easy to setup and within minutes I was sanding primer and bondo without a lick of dust anywhere. I was beyond impressed with the whole system !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used more paper than expected. My wife bought this as a gift, and while the concept is solid and it does reduce dust, I had issues with the blocks themselves. The outer edge is made of hard plastic, while the center cavity uses a softer material. I noticed that the outer edge accumulated a significant amount of primer when sanding, whereas the center area contributed less to the sanding process. This resulted in dust quickly building up behind the sandpaper, preventing it from sticking properly. I ended up using more sandpaper than necessary, which was frustrating. Perhaps it was user error, but I ultimately switched to some high-quality sanding blocks. Although they generated more dust, the experience was far more pleasant and effective

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dustbuster Seems to work well, on extremely flat surfaces the vacuum needs to be turned down some or sticks. You can hardly move the block. But it does pick up the dust from sanding like primer surfacer. If the blocks were a little more flexible, it would be better for curved surfaces, but all in all it seemed to work well.
Date published: 2023-11-25
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, but with some concerns The system works well when set up correctly, but collects 95% of the dust? Maybe on a large flat panel, but there aren't a lot of flat panels on my '56 F-100. Still it collects a lot of the dust so much better than a typical sanding block or flat board as far as cleanliness. The one big negative is the required sandpaper. It is fairly expensive and wears out quickly, at least the 80 grit does when sanding body filler. Hoping finer grits last longer. The adhesive on the paper is a bit lacking as well. The sanding block must be completely clean or else the paper will not stick. Overall, a pretty good system.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It sucks as it cuts.works well when it works. Use hearing ndust protection Pros: Works well on flat surfaces, is lightweight, provides a good finish. Cons: very cheaply made, hose fitting should come out of the end,it is noisier than a blowgun nozzle 6”away from your head. the plastic plates come unbonded from the foam. Medium length block garbage after one day of use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They're sanding blocks.... But thats about it. They dont' pick up nearly as much dust as I'd hoped for, even with a very powerful shop vac connected. And having to listen to that thing is obnoxious as it is. Hose and connection needs to be twice the size it is, there's not enough volume moving through it. You can vacuum stick the block to the car, and it'll hold it there but as soon as you pull it off, all the dust just falls right now. I typically love Eastwood products, but this was a swing and a miss. I've just been using them as regular blocks at this point.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from needs help The hose needs something to attach it to the sanding block. Mine keeps falling off.
Date published: 2024-09-12
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should you buy?? Suction subpar especially when blocking on an edge. When hose is attached it does make it pretty awkward to block across a hood and the hose attachment does slip off when your aggressively blocking. A few adjustments would be great. The corresponding sand paper lines up oddly on the block so the holes aren’t covered. Overall it’ll kind of do the job but I didn’t quite feel it was worth the price tag at this point.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from dustless sander Worked OK, but I thought it would be a better quality
Date published: 2023-12-12
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like the DSB, but I really want to love it... I hate filler dust, so I really want to love this system. Overall, the idea is good and I think the products are a solid foundation, so I am glad I made the purchase. The system does come up short for me. I am working filler on a 1955 Buick Century Front Door, mounted on an Eastwood parts stand. I am continually fighting the vacuum hose, mainly because it connects to the topside of the block (mainly using long block). I end up routing the hose above my shoulders so I can block w/o dragging the hose. I would love to see a side port, maybe with a cap to cover the port not being used. As I have sanded, the dust has made the connection port slippery, so the hose falls off. I "fixed" this with a hose clamp, but I don't like having that in my way. I don't want to cut the hose end after 1 month as the manual states. Next, I don't love foam blocks for filler work. I know they are in many shops right now, but I still prefer rigid plastic. I would love to see that style explored because the rigid sandpaper mount area is not enough (for my preference). Lastly, the sand paper is lacking to me. The cut is not great and it dulls quickly, and the mounting adhesive is not the strongest. I blow off the block before mounting new paper, but it comes lose fairly easily. Hook-and-loop is probably more expensive, but it is a more effective way to mount paper IMO. The assets of this system start with the vacuum hose. The rubber is soft and pliable, much easier to work with than other hoses I have worked with on other units. The adaptor fit perfectly with my existing shop vac, saving me $ on additional equipment. Set up was minutes and got me sanding quickly. I did see a significant improvement in the amount of dust in my workspace, benefit of the system was obvious. The foam blocks feel good "in the hand", and I am looking forward to using them to block my primer. Overall, dealing with the issues and glad I added this to my toolbox at this price point.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flex Good for sanding large panels with bondo, but not for small areas, primer or compound curves. What’s needed is a sanding block that flexes
Date published: 2023-08-15
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok with limits Tool is good and works only bad thing is paper is expensive for the amount you get on a roll
Date published: 2023-06-12
Rated 2 out of 5 by from More adapters needed Too bad the vacuum cleaner adapters don't adapt to either of my two vacuum cleaners.
Date published: 2025-08-31
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad regulator clip /poor quality The clip on the hose to regulate the amount of suction at the DSB block is very cheaply made. It is so loose it spins and won’t stay in place. It falls off easily if the vac isn’t turned on. I had to put a piece of blue painters tape over it to hold it in place. This was a good idea that was poorly executed by the manufacturer. With every adjustment, I have to reattach the tape to hold it.
Date published: 2025-01-11
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Misses the mark. Good attempt but misses the mark. The vacuum will hold the block to the surface but when you pull away all the dust falls out. Should have known with the small tube that there is not enough volume of air flow to pull the dust out of the block. It did pull some of the finer dust, you can tell from the coating inside the tube, but there is still significant dust left behind and on the floor. Also the regulator slot at the end of the hose will condense the humidity in the air, ended up with a small clog because of this. Needs a larger vacuum port, like one on a powered sander or DA, and side vents for air flow. May modify myself.
Date published: 2023-12-26
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not perform that well. Air reg. is a cheap c-shaped plastic part that easily falls off and has to be readjusted every time the shop vac is turned on. Amount of dust (drywall) it collects is nowhere close to 95%. More like 50%.

Why does Eastwood claim the sander make “laser straight” panels.  How does the sander do that?   Isn’t that something the operator has the skill or doesn’t have the skill to do, not the sander itself?

Asked by: Rob Rodder
It's a combination of factors, and technique of the sander is definitely one of them. Which is why we have the videos and instruction manual showing cross-blocking sanding technique, utilization of guide coat as a visual aide to spot highs and lows, and advise stepping up through the grits for ultimate smoothness. Anyone can learn these methods, apply, and get results like a pro. The design of the block is another factor. The nylon vacuum plate gives you a straight edge to achieve the straight panel and coupled with the foam block it has the perfect amount of flex to suite curved body panels. You could get a car perfect with a basic rubber sanding block, but it will take forever and be a real challenge to stay consistent. The DSB takes the some of skill, a lot of the time, and almost all of the mess out.

This dustless sander is a great product, but at $40 for small roll of perforated sandpaper, the working cost is quite high. Can you add machine to punch the hole-pattern in self-cut sheets of sandpaper? If so, I'm sold.

Asked by: Barry
This is something we may consider in the future, but as of now we do not have anything to offer. The paper is more costly due to the tooling cost for the factory punched holes, but it lasts twice as long because the vacuum dust collection prevents it from loading with sanding dust. When we sanded the Datsun we used twice as much paper with the traditional block comparing to the DSB. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njBEM3jsHBM&t=311s

You can, but it will probably take longer and more physical effort than with a SCT tool or DA sander. It would minimize any mess though.
