Duty Cycle

The rated Duty cycle refers to the amount of welding that can be done within an amount of time. The Eastwood MP140i has a duty cycle of 30% at 90 Amps. It is easiest to look at your welding time in blocks of 10 Minutes and the Duty Cycle being a percentage of that 10 Minutes. If welding at 90 Amps with a 30% Duty Cycle, within a 10 Minute block of time you can weld for 3 Minutes with 7 Minutes of cooling for the Welder.

If the Duty Cycle is exceeded, the Welder will automatically shut off, however the fan will continue running to cool the components. When a safe temperature has been reached, the Welder will automatically switch the Welder output back on. To increase the duty cycle you can turn down the Voltage Output control.

I have used all the functions on it and found it to be very user friendly. Having some knowledge on the welding subject, it was not very difficult to get up and running immediately. The only issue I had was the instructional manual. It could have been a little more informative. But none the less, good job on the 140i Eastwood. I would recommend this Multi Process Welder to anyone from professional to amateur.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes welding easy for a beginner. I'm new to welding and needed a mig welder for welding patch panels in the car I'm working on. I chose this Eastwood model because I liked the features such as infinite control knobs, digital display readout which is really nice, the spot welder function, and the multi process capability. You can't beat the price and the 3yr warranty is what made me decide on this machine vs others in the running. After a day of practice on scraps and watching a few videos on setup and welding tips, I was able to get repeatable, great spot welds on 22 ga sheet metal. I was even able to get butt welds without burn through. I'm welding an extension to the top shelf of my welding cart so this welder will fit nicely and not overhang off the top. Now I'm ready to actually start welding patch panels into the floor of my '39 Studebaker. Can't wait to get started. And with the multi process capability of this machine I will be able to learn some tig technique as well. One other thing. The machine runs nicely off of 110v and a 15amp breaker for the sheetmetal work. Might have to switch to a 20amp circuit for welding thicker material. We'll see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Move from FCAW to MIG/TIG/Stick - My first Projects center around restoring 2 early 70's VWs - lots of sheet metal, lots of spot welds. Moving from a HF 125 machine with four heat ranges running flux core wire. My only "dislike": the MIG Spot Weld Kit does not fit even though most material on the website lead me to believe it was compatible with all Eastwood welders. Now for the "likes" (and the list is long!): spot weld timer makes repeatable spot/plug welds simple and consistent. The infinite adjustability of all the controls allow precise control of wires speed, power, and timer. The feed mechanism is smooth a predictable. The cables have plenty of length. Besides gas, all the start-up items for all three processes (except TIG filler rod) are included. Weighs less than my old machine with more capability. Bigger trigger on torch. Tried my first stick welds ever on railroad track section I have has anvil and successfully struck an arc and build up material with good penetration. Tried to get a pool going with TIG, but dipped the tungsten within 2 minutes - gonna keep trying (scratch start wasn't that hard). All in all, after 3 weeks the MP140i seems like it will meet almost all of my welding needs in the foreseeable future - glad it has a 3-years warranty, plus I got the 2yr extension. Yesterday when practicing, I stitched a 20ga butt weld that would have made Dave Kindig or Joe Martin proud - I credit the machine!.

The scratch start TIG works great for quick little tig projects. I have not tried the Stick part of it yet. But I am very impressed with the welding it can do plugged in to a 110 outlet. I built a rack for my trailer yesterday with it and made for a quick and easy job. I was welding on 14 and 11 gauge mild steel and it worked great. I had to order it over the phone because I have different shipping and Billing addresses. But they worked it out and got it ordered and quickly shipped it out.

Just want to check if it is normal that the wire feed starts 1-2 seconds after pressing the trigger, the gas starts immediately. My old Lincoln welder both started immediately. When I got this welder the mig torch had to be replaced because of a defective

Both our Eastwood Elite MP140i and MP200i have a .5 second pre flow setting before wire starts feeding. this is to ensure clean shielding gas has made it through the torch and is providing proper coverage. The purpose of this is to eliminate any potential for contamination at the start of the weld. Many other welders in this price range do not have this capability. Many high end welders made by Lincoln and Miller have the ability to adjust this pre-flow setting. By having a fixed short pre flow we believe that we are able to provide a high quality weld, at a low price. It is also worth noting that while stich welding, if trigger is pulled multiple times quickly before the gas shuts off, the delay will not be present, this is due to the welder knowing that gas has been flowing, and the pre flow "Purge" is not needed. I bought one of these a while back.  Haven't even opened the box yet.  The contents section says the 140i is a dual voltage machine but in another section it states 120 volts.  can this machine be connected to 220-240 volts to weld thicker material?

Would this be able to run off a solar system/12v inverter? I have a few 100ah batteries but not sure if a welder works on an inverter. My inverter is a modified sine wave capable of 3000 running watts and 6000 peak watts. Would I need bigger or pure sine?

We have not tested, and cannot guarantee, function with 12v DC to AC inverters. However, pure sine wave, and a system least capable of at least 5000 running watts for full welding capability should work.

The Elite MP140i can supply a maximum of 70A in stick welding mode. It can run 1/8" welding rods, and actually includes five E6013 1/8" welding rods. Typically we only accept warranty returns for functional defects, cosmetic defects, or shipping damage. This welder carries a 3 year warranty for any functionality defects.

The Eastwood Elite MP140i Multi Process Welder will provide and excellent Arc weld when using the proper Arc welding rods and welding techniques. Eastwood recommends using Arc Welding rods E6010, E6011, E6013, and E7014 in sizes from 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8". The E6010 and E6011 rods weld in the DC Electrode negative mode (DCEN) and the E6013 and E7014 weld in the DC Electrode negative or the DC Electrod positive mode (DCEN/DCEP). The MP140i is rated to Arc (stick) weld up to 3/16th inch steel and provides a 30 percent duty cycle @ 90 Amps.

This unit is a 120v machine only. Our next step up from this machine- the Elite MP200i is 110v/ 240v.

My machine only puts out 70AMPS during TIG. I thought it was rated at 90AMPS TIG. Why is this? Can I get 90AMPS out of it?

Well, Just found out that this welder, as advertised as 140AMPs, is NOT 140AMPS. Specs for TIG is 70AMPS and for MIG it is 90AMPS. Very disappointed that it was mis-advertised as a 140AMP machine. I don't think I will ever buy from Eastwood again.
