Duty Cycle

The rated Duty cycle refers to the amount of welding that can be done within an amount of time. The Eastwood MP140i has a duty cycle of 30% at 90 Amps. It is easiest to look at your welding time in blocks of 10 Minutes and the Duty Cycle being a percentage of that 10 Minutes. If welding at 90 Amps with a 30% Duty Cycle, within a 10 Minute block of time you can weld for 3 Minutes with 7 Minutes of cooling for the Welder.

If the Duty Cycle is exceeded, the Welder will automatically shut off, however the fan will continue running to cool the components. When a safe temperature has been reached, the Welder will automatically switch the Welder output back on. To increase the duty cycle you can turn down the Voltage Output control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up and use. Purchased about a month ago and finally set it up and used it for the first time. Smooth operation and precise adjustments make for a great bead every time and does not skip a beat. Works as good as our Miller 250 at the garage I work at. Great welder for the first timer or experienced welder. Can not wait to try the tig torch and spool gun, Eastwood does not disappoint with this machine..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great welder for the money Have had this a week so far, and couldn’t be happier. Using it for a recall campaign on child anchors. The arc is super stable even when having to pull away to fit into tight spots, and the weeds are great. Primarily using for MIG on 2mm steel. Looking forward to using it for my own truck here soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great welder This is a very good welder, I have use this welder for a few projects, the.mig works perfectly, the Tig is very good for the beginner TIG welder to learn with, I tried the stick as well and was very impressed on how well this unit works oh, I would recommend this to family and friends it's an all-around good welder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little welder I bought one of these multi process MP40i, and I have to say it is a really nice welder. The Mig works great, smooth and easy operation. The scratch start TIG works great for quick little tig projects. I have not tried the Stick part of it yet. But I am very impressed with the welding it can do plugged in to a 110 outlet. I built a rack for my trailer yesterday with it and made for a quick and easy job. I was welding on 14 and 11 gauge mild steel and it worked great. I had to order it over the phone because I have different shipping and Billing addresses. But they worked it out and got it ordered and quickly shipped it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than pleased Bought a few weeks ago and love it it's a vast improvement above my Clark welder I had for 13 years. Love the welder and features works flawlessly and you guys at Eastwood offer best warranty on it. Can't wait to purchase more Eastwood products in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Welder!!! I got this welder as a replacement for a Miller 140 that I had that no longer was working and couldnt be happier with the results. I have used it twice so far to fix my small trailer and for a broken bracket on a lawn mover deck. It was able to handle both thicker materials without any problems. I cannot wait to start working on some sheet metal with this since it did so we ll with my 1st two projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working Great as My First Welder This is my first welder. I have only used it for MIG welding, so far, but I am excited to try TIG and stick soon. I have not had any issues. My dad has worked with welders all his life and he recently bought a Lincoln welder he is unhappy with. He came by to help me out with my car and told me he liked this welder and was thinking of getting one. He mentioned the slight delay after pulling the trigger, but didn't think it was a big deal. I am happy with the purchase and I don't think you can beat the price for the quality. Also, I like supporting a company who can easily be contacted for help and who puts out free step by step instructional videos online for free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good little machine This machine is a nice upgrade from my Clarke 130i mig welder. It has excellent wire feed and voltage control, an adequate user manual. However why the f they put the the under the cover setting chart backwards to the machines operation is beyond me. Perhaps management is dyslexic ? That is just a pain in the but. This machine does produce a superior to anything bead or spot mig weld on 22 > 20 ga steel. And that is what I bought it for. I am looking forward to learning to TIG weld with it. I do wish they made a pedal control to fit it for TIG. THE GAS gauges are very small, but they seem Accurate and very gas tight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Customer service ! Great welder at a really good price. I had a small issue with Mig welder lead and customer service took care of it in a matter of minutes when I called. They went above and beyond my expectations. They really want you to be satisfied with their products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 140i Eastwood review I bought the welder to do welding on auto body sheet metal. It worked much better that my lincon 180 240 volt for this. And I was able to use a 25 foot extension cord off a 15 amp breaker. I was also able to do some heavier welding 1/4 inch stock. I was able to weld several inches before I limited my beaker. A few parts I would like to see upgraded. But overall a vary good welder for the price. I do think the manual could be expanded upon to provide more welding tips for novices. Like the mug gas welding shield will only twist on and off with a clockwise twist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First welder works great Bought this a few months back; I use it for body work and frame work. Spot welder works great after some tuning. Been practicing stick welding and I’ve even told by people who weld for a living say it works great. I’ve had one issue with the gas like which is understandable for the price, (had a spare one). Is lightweight and you get decent hardware. Would give 4.5 for the price

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not horrible Bought it for a project car, the Tig and stick function works, although it best to have two people on Tig as there's no adjustment by foot pedal or torch, however my mig function didn't work, contacted customer support, they believe the torch to be bad and that's why the spool motor will not work, waiting to here when it'll be here, been 3 days so far, holding up the project right now
Date published: 2020-08-08
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good welder I’ve had the 140i now for 4 months and I really like how it welds. Only things I didn’t like is the welder came already scratched on the top of the unit and handle. Idk if it was returned or the lack of packing materials to keep it from being banged around during shipping. First time using the mug gun and having issues with it sticking on for a few seconds after I let go of button. Just randomly happens. And the free wire and electrodes didn’t come with it like it says. Stick welding is easy and mig gun when it’s working right. Looking forward to using the spool gun on this unit after it goes on sale it’s a little pricey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great welder for the price Just used the MIG process to fab a welding cart. Welder preformed well, set the machine up according to the chart and was toward the top end of the dial. Buzzed the wire in like a champ. Torch tip is loose and need to investigate but over all, happy happy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Assumed it had a foot pedal mig on 110 works well, tig on the other hand, dislike the scratch start. if I would have been paying closer attention before ordering I would not have ordered.
Date published: 2021-10-08
Rated 2 out of 5 by from good for small repairs, very weak tig functions. not for structural work purchased this for the tig feature, but it struggles to penetrate anything thicker than 14g sheet metal. and it cannot weld on aluminum at all. the amperage maxes out at 70 even though the welder is rated for 140. the scratch start is a bummer as well, half the time the tungsten will just fuse to the work piece.
Date published: 2024-01-31
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Poor quality the arc welding doesn’t weld and the tig too but mig seem to be good save your money and buy a real mark (lincoln, miller)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from won't buy again bought this a year or so ago used it a few times and it was alright. ended up buying a bigger welder, but had to sell that do to losing my job.. brought the mp140i back out and used it for 2 days again and it keeps stopping mid weld with anything over 130 wire speed just shuts off every 5 second unreal can't even make any money at home right now... I have 3 different welding certs and have worked in fabrication for 6 years deff not operator error

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks nice but is not First one I received had some issue, so I returned it. They sent another one and It didn't work at all, no power. I opened up the back panel and found a disconnected white wire. I connected it, and it worked. I had problems with it off and on, mostly the wire not feeding properly and tangling up behind the wheels. I never had this problem with my Miller, so it was frustrating. I was able to get that dialed in finally, and had been using it for a few months with no problem. Then, It just locked up. I would pull the trigger and it was fully locked but trying to move. I couldn't figure it out this time, and gave up. The best thing that happened with this welder was the next day when I walked out to the dumpster and dropped it in. I know, I am in idiot, but it felt satisfying after so many problems. Never will I stray from Miller or Lincoln again. Honestly, this welder looked and felt high quality. I really thought it would be a great welder.
Date published: 2023-01-29
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stick is okay MIG is absolutely horrible Stick functions works when it wants to. The mig function on the other hand is absolutely horrible, “19 volts” won’t even penetrate 16 gauge material, wire speed turned all the up and it won’t keep up with 18 volts. Tried it with both Flux core (.35) and solid wire (.23). Hands down the worst mig welder I’ve ever tried to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Eastwood 140 Amp Elite MP140i Multi Process Welder This Machine is Great. I'll be using it to completely restore a 1969 Z 28. New One Piece Floor and One Piece Firewall. I have never done any TIG welding until now. I am almost through my first 150 Cu Foot Argon tank. I used the TIG aspect of the welder to build an Oil Burning Heater for the garage and get use to TIG welding before I start on the Camaro. This is an Awesome Welder. I am sure to get many many hours of use out of it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what i expected I bought this over the winter and it wasnt used in almost a year. When i finally go to use it. I couldn't because it cant tig aluminum. When i 1st got it that was why i got it. It was to tig turbo cold side...it didnt say anything about not tig aluminum. The mig is average..i now have a shop art piece on wheels cuz it will never get used. Tried to sell it. No one wants it

Questions & Answers

I was taught 6010 runs DCEP only so can this machine do that or will it run it just DCEN

Asked by: Skoalman
The Eastwood Elite MP140i Multi Process Welder will provide and excellent Arc weld when using the proper Arc welding rods and welding techniques. Eastwood recommends using Arc Welding rods E6010, E6011, E6013, and E7014 in sizes from 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8". The E6010 and E6011 rods weld in the DC Electrode negative mode (DCEN) and the E6013 and E7014 weld in the DC Electrode negative or the DC Electrod positive mode (DCEN/DCEP). The MP140i is rated to Arc (stick) weld up to 3/16th inch steel and provides a 30 percent duty cycle @ 90 Amps.

Well, Just found out that this welder, as advertised as 140AMPs, is NOT 140AMPS. Specs for TIG is 70AMPS and for MIG it is 90AMPS. Very disappointed that it was mis-advertised as a 140AMP machine. I don't think I will ever buy from Eastwood again.

Can I stick welder 1/4 inch mild steel plate with this machine?

Asked by: Tommy
You can weld 1" metal if you want - you have to and should make multiple passes. It isn't how thick you can weld in one pass, it's how good are you in welding one pass AND how big the machine is to allow you to continuously weld in one pass (duty cycle). Any welder can weld any thickness. But welding at maximum also limits your weld time - duty cycle. You'd need an expensive big machine to continuously weld 1/4" and more without stopping for the duty cycle (or the machine will stop you).

How does the TIG gas start and stop with scratch start? Doesn't removing the torch away from the weld to stop the arc also break the gas barrier?

This torch has a gas knob on the handle of the torch and when you pull the torch away to discontinue the arc you will then want to manually turn off the gas as well.

Do I need a special type of gas?

Asked by: Agek
When welding with the Arc Welder function on the MP140i, you will not need to autilize a welding gas. When welding mild steel with the Mig welder or Tig welder function you will need a welding gas such as 70 percent argon 30 percent CO2 (70/30) blended gas. When utilizing the optional Aluminum spool gun feature of this machine you will need to switch to a pure Argon gas for proper Aluminum welds.
