FAQs

Will the scroll compressor need to be hardwired or will it have a plug?
The scroll compressor will come with a 10 ga cord that will not have a plug end. This will give you the option to hardwire or install an appropriate plug of your choice.

Will a 20 amp breaker be sufficient for power usage?
Refer to the Compressor nameplate for voltage and amperage requirements. All wiring must be done by a licensed electrician, in accordance with National Electric Code and state and local requirements. For best performance, the Compressor must be installed on a dedicated circuit, with a circuit breaker or fuse for protection. Each time the Compressor motor starts, it will momentarily draw several times its full load amperage. It is important to consider this start-up surge when specifying circuit breakers or fuses. If fuses are used, time-delay type must be installed.

How Much does it cost to ship the Scroll Compressor?
Shipping is a 250 Dollar Flat rate Fee. In store pick up will also be available at our retail locations.

Does the Scroll Compressor still need an air Filter/Drier?
Just like a piston compressor the scroll compressor compresses air which causes the air temperature to rise and moisture to condense Therefore the same Filtration and moisture separation will be needed to ensure clean dry air.

What are the maintenance requirements?
After the first year we specify an oil change and every three years we specify an oil and filter change. There is an air filter, an oil filter and a moisture separator/filter that would be changed at that time.

Where is this Compressor Made?
The air compressor is made in China to Eastwood's specifications. We do all validation and testing of products here in the USA to ensure that they meet our exacting standards.

How does a scroll compressor work?

A scroll compressor uses two interleaving scrolls to pump, compress or pressurize fluids, including liquids and gases. One of the scrolls is typically fixed, while the other scroll orbits without rotating, which results in trapping, pumping or compressing pockets of fluid between the scrolls.

Another method for producing the compression motion is co-rotating the scrolls at the same time, but with offset centers of rotation. The relative motion is the same as if one were orbiting around the other.

How do you quiet an air compressor?

The easiest solution to quieting an air compressor is to buy a new ultra-quiet model. If you are looking for a way to quiet your existing air compressor, there are some tips that you can follow.

You can install an intake silencer, which will help to dampen the sound produced by the incoming air rushing through the filter of your air compressor. Another tip is to install anti-vibration pads under your stationary air compressor. You can also build your own soundproof box to house your air compressor.

If those methods don't work, it is recommended to move your air compressor as far away from you as possible or wear hearing protection when near your air compressor.

Is a scroll or a rotary compressor better?

In general, rotary air compressors have more power and can cool more air than a scroll air compressor. Rotary compressors are usually a better option in larger central air conditioning systems, but the power could be wasted if used in a smaller central unit or a window air conditioner.

Despite its ability to cool larger quantities of air, a rotary air compressor is typically less expensive than a scroll air compressor.

Scroll air compressors are becoming increasingly popular because they are usually more efficient, energy-saving, durable, reliable and much quieter compared to rotary air compressors.

I have heard of customers say they had moisture in the oil tank. Is this a problem?

We have found that with humid climates and intermittent use, the scroll compressor will ingest moisture. If the moisture filter is not replaced or gets saturated, moisture can collect in the oil tank. Rest assured this moisture will NOT be collected in the air tank nor enter your air supply. While the excess moisture will not hamper performance of the unit it can be a nuisance with oil mist expelling through the unloader valve (the port under the pressure switch).

To resolve this occasional issue, the Moisture Drain Kit comes pre-installed on the the new Elite 30/60 Scroll Compressor (item 63600) for better performance.

What is optimum oil fill level?

Oil should be filled halfway between the ADD and FULL marks, not the whole way to the FULL line.

What improvements have been made to this new Eastwood QST 30-60 Scroll Air Compressor?

To increase the performance of this unit, a new and improved pressure switch has been added for longer service life in a wider variety of conditions.

The hoodless design offers superior cooling, easier serviceability, and no sacrifice in noise reduction.

A moisture drain kit is now included and makes it easier then ever to drain any oil tank moisture build up so the compressor always runs at peak performance.

    Safety Information

Always read and fully understand operators manual before using this product. Always consult a certified electrician to install the unit. Always keep hands out of the way of rotating components. Never operate this tool in wet conditions due to electrical shock hazard. Never weld to the tank of a compressor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scroll compressor I needed to replace an older 30 gallon compressor that wasn’t useful for operating air tools like a dual action sanders or grinders.  I would have needed a 2 stage compressor of at least 60 gallons.  I would have to run a new outlet for the power required by a compressor that size.  I carefully looked at the reviews for this compressor and saw that a bad pressure valve seemed to be a common complaint when new, and replacing it is an easy task.  I did need to replace the valve and they sent me a replacement the day after I reported the problem.  This compressor used the power supply from the older compressor and is extremely quiet and takes up much less room that a piston compressor would in my 2 car garage.  I was surprised at how well built it looked when I unpacked it.  I can operate a D/A sander with it constantly and the compressor will fill easily to capacity while doing so.  In short, it’s well built, small, quiet, operates on a power supply of a small compressor and creates enough air to operate my tools without having to wait for the pressure to build up like my old one.  It’s expensive but running a new power line would have been too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As quiet as a sump pump! The old oil-less compressor was making me deaf in the garage. The QST is so quiet I put it in the basement shop right next to the work area. It keeps up with every tool including sanders, blast cabinet, etc. I've had it a year and it's been terrific. I did run into the overfilled oil issue but that was very quickly resolved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely quiet and fast I just unboxed my QST, powered up, turned on and WOW!!! Just amazing how quiet and how quickly it built up full pressure. Only issue was a bit of rust on some of the fittings and around the electric motor but other then that blown away. Packaging and delivery was on time and well protected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Qst 30/60 scroll Compressor Once product is set up it’s absolutely flawless. When it comes to the oil do not listen to the manual filling it to the second line is way too much oil according to Eastwood tech support I listen to the manual and it started squirting oil out of the overload switch tech-support says there was too much oil in it. they’re working on fixing the manual to accommodate this mistake

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used for running pneumatic injection machine LONG PERIODS More than likely I abuse this compressor more than anyone has or will. I use it to run an automatic injection molding machine that’s completely pneumatic. It typically cycles by running for around 55 seconds then shuts off for 50. Longest straight run was 4 days straight cycling like. I usually run it atleastt 3 days a week though. I’ve had it for about 6 months now so I figure it was time to leave a review. No issues, rock solid investment. If kept in a smaller space and cycles often it will put off some heat. Wish they made a fan attachment for the radiator, there is only air running through it when the compressor is on, but I know this does not apply for 99% of people buying this thing. Oh yea, and it’s super quiet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should be 4 and a half star... I purchased this yesterday and spent today getting it installed in my air line system. I wanted to mention this as the only negative so far...the crate is a bit bigger than you might think, and there are instructions on the crate as to how to un crate this but it is a bit of a chore as the sides don't just "come off/apart" like the directions make it sound. Once you get it revealed the next hurdle is to get it off the crate dolly it sits on because the wheels are elevated a bit so it doesn't just come off the skid, obviously for shipment protection, but still had to be hoisted up a couple inches to get the skid out to set on the floor. FYI, the protective top is held on by 5mm hex bolts, I replaced mine with hex head cap bolts to make removal easier if needed. The photo in the instruction book DOES NOT show the sleeve on the overpressure relief valve, DO NOT REMOVE IT. Otherwise it is about 325 lbs (an average refrigerator weight), but once on the floor it rolls very smoothly and the caster brakes actually WORK! Also the outlet fitting is 1/2". The cord comes with spade connectors installed. It is as quiet as everyone says, well worth it in my book and it filled my four car garage Maxair set up as well as it's own tank in 3 mins flat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Compressor Ever!!!! Just got this as a gift from my wife! (yes I have a good one). I can not stress how Awesome this compressor is! I live in an area with close neighbors and they use to complain how noisy my old compressor was, Even had police called for noise complaint one night! I've had this for a week now and run it until 11pm or so. I have zero compliants now and i can even hear my music from my Bluetooth speaker! I haven't painted anything yet but it works fantastic for all my other air tools! My only concern is the heat this puts out, as its caused the stickers to bubble a little. No big deal, it more then makes up for performance and lack of noise. Thank You Eastwood for a fantastic product!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best compressor I ever had I bought this when they were first offered, saved a LOT of money since they are now $1900. It is more quiet than my old chugger of a compressor and more powerful. I have a machine shop and the machines use a lot of air. If you are on the fence on this it won't be a bad decision to spring for it - you won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome piece of Equipment! I replaced my weak, old, loud air compressor with this new one and now I can run my air gun, DA ,Die grinder.... whatever without having to stop and wait for the compressor to catch up!. I don't have to "give the compressor a brake" because I can smell it over heating. This unit is really powerful and quiet. Its hard to judge from the videos Eastwood puts out to really know how quite it is . If I can compare it to something.id say its as loud as a standard drill press. It actually sounds a lot like that! I It was a great investment for my shop owned it for 2 months now and am happy. As for the outlet end, I used a NEMA 50 plug end (same as my Eastwood Mig 175) this way I get dual purpose out of that outlet. Very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Compressor for Home Shop I love this compressor I had an 80 Gallon very expensive headache maker I could not Hear myself think when it was on. This runs all my tools with no problem I have not tried Blast Cabinet but I have heard it handles that. I love the size and the air it produces and I can move around my shop if I need to. I like the size doesn’t take up huge space. I don’t think the price is that bad for what you are getting I would have paid more if it was made in USA to bad we don’t have some US production. I think Eastwood sells good products and my experience with this compressor could not have been better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don’t Hesitate I bought this compressor to upgrade the supply in my basement workshop. My reciprocal piston compressor was great but too loud for this setup. After a lot of research and hesitation I decided to go for the Eastwood scroll compressor. I received the compressor quickly and it was well packaged. Compressor arrived with no damage and filled to the proper oil level for operation. I wired it up and fired it up and it has performed well for a couple weeks now. So so quiet! Assembly appears to be high quality, no leaks, no vibrations, etc. I almost didn’t buy this compressor because of some negative reviews (after all it is an expensive piece of equipment for a home shop) so I’m taking the time to say this can be a good investment so don’t hesitate.

Runs my plasma CNC table and more. I’m so glad I Found and purchased this one before I purchased another noisy 60 gal Locally. Quieter than my shop fan!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best compressor I've owned! Six months in and this compressor is a champ. I have it running a high-output sand blasting booth and it handles it with ease. I have a 7mm nozzle on the booth (.280") and I can blast continuously. Noise was a big concern for me and the 30/60 is very unobtrusive. It's not only quiet, but the type of noise it produces is much less offensive than the concussion of a piston compressor. Great job with this product! It shipped up to Canada on time and was well crated - but it did have a small dent in the top shield. Would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite as advertised. Shipped well protected. I kept my eye on the price and when Eastwood offered a $100 off in January I pulled the trigger and ordered the Elite QST-30/60 Scroll compressor. I arrived on a small pallet and was well protected. Did the inspection for shipping damage and luckily there was none. I unpacked it and did the recommend oil level and filter check. Attached a 240v plug and did a leak test. Happy to say it passed with no leaks. Purging water out of the tank is easy to do with the large ball valve on the bottom. This unit doesn't come with a 240v plug. I assume this is since Eastwood can't predict what type of outlet the buyer will have? The lead is only about 3 feet long, so unless you have a welding type extension cable, you will probably need to keep the compressor near an outlet, a shame since the low profile tank has a nice set of locking caster wheels. I ordered a NEMA 6-50P (3 wire) off Amazon for less than $25 but I decided to replace it with one that had a much better dust seal. The original plug left a gaping hole after wiring up the 10/3 lead on the compressor and I didn't want any grinding dust ending up in there. Better safe than sorry I guess. So some of the reviews mention that the scroll compressor blows off air after filling the tank and it was quite loud. Mine did the same thing but the noise level didnt seem excessive at all. And other than getting startled when it first blew off it wasn't any louder than it running. Maybe this was addressed with the "improved" QST Elite? Speaking of sound level, its only about as loud as a window air conditioning unit. And when compared to other higher CFM compressors, is quite impressive. Overall, I'm very happy with the scrolls performance and long life pump design. I've had it for less than a month but at this time I would highly recommend the QST Elite 30/60 if you need a QUITE air compressor with impressive (true 12.9) CFM output and a compact design that is very portable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hesitated but glad I finally bought one! I had been contemplating buying for a while primarily due to price. Finally bought one and well worth the slight premium over similar non scroll compressors. My shop is my home garage so I was very interested in the strong performance with low noise. This compressor delivers. Definitely any air tool is going to be quieter than this compressor. You can have a conversation next to it while running. So far powers every tool I’ve used without any hesitation. Very quick recovery time to refill tank and shut off. I’ve seen complaints on other reviews about the blow off when the tank is full. Loosely zip tying a shop rag takes care of the blow off noise but it was minor even before using rag. I picked mine up in Pottstown. Plan on three people to get the very well built and protected crate out of a pickup. Plan on two people for 30 seconds for getting off of crate base when uncreated. Very well built machine. Good instruction manual. Used a 30 amp welding plug for plugging and unplugging as needed. Don’t hesitate like I did.

Kuddos Eastwood you guys nailed it with this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loud unloader, on an otherwise awesome machine I'd give this compressor 5 stars except for this. The unloader cycle is about 10sec long, is completely unmuffled, and due to design and placement, unmufflable using traditional options. For a machine that is designed and advertised for it's decibel levels, seems strange that this would be omitted. Around 10-15db spike during unloading. I stuffed a piece of open cell foam against it to attenuate a bit, but really wish it had been addressed. Loudest thing in my shop. Compressor sound levels in the running state is a dream come true.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from QST 30/60 Had the compressor for a week and love it so far. My only issues are shipping related. The top cover came with a large dent and scratches and oil was all over the unit. Had to buy additional oil because it was not full when it arrived. Maybe include 1 quart for initial top off?? Besides those issues the unit operates as advertised. It’s small, quiet and puts out plenty of air.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from quiet with a few issues i got this a few months ago, after waiting a while for it to be available, and connected it after getting a 220 outlet in my shop. the compressor is quiet of course, and has enough air for my hobbyist activities, and modest painting setup. shipping was easy, it was secure on the pallet, albeit a bit hard to get off of the pedastal alone. my unit was shipped with the tank drain closed, when i opened it there was some pressure and rust colored water sprayed out. this of course was disappointing. I installed an auto drain from harbor freight, i havent checked recently to see if the rust color has disappeared, as there is a rust color stain under compressor drain now lol some oil leaked at first, but I couldn't ever find the source, and it stopped. i checked oil volume and still looked good, so i havent messed with it since. it is a bit of a chore taking the hood off to check the oil. at this price, there are a lot of options, for much higher output compressors, but none as quiet. this replaced a rather quiet (for what it is) piston quincy compressor. the footprint is actually sort of wide, but the unit is short, would be good for under some shelving or something all in all, its a nice unit, and looks like a steampink time machine with the hood off. but it is pricey, and if noise isnt your number one concern, there are a lot of options, time will tell how it holds up.

I have a small to man auto paint shop and was wondering if this compressor would suit painting and sanding a car at the same time without issue? Also would it be helpful to feed this to and 80 gallon tank for additional air?

    Asked by: Ingalls
This compressor supplies 12.7 CFM @ 90psi. If the sum of your air demand exceeds that it will have trouble keeping up. Additional tank volume will prolong depletion of the air supply, but if your demand constantly exceeds what the compressor supplies it will run out eventually.

While it would be overkill and a dumb question most likely, can I dial the regulator pressure down far enough to fill the tires with air? Trying to confirm if I can toss my smaller and much louder shop compressor, if I bought one of these.

    Asked by: Harry
You don't necessarily need to regulate the air to fill your tires, but if you wanted to regulate the output air pressure you will need to purchase a regulator. Something like our #31633 is great because it has a regulator and filter built into one compact unit. We do not recommend altering the pressure regulator setting from the factory setting.

I was bleeding the air out of the bottom and noticed oil in the water.

    Asked by: LeeRoy
Moisture and small amount of oil are to be expected in the air tank - this is not an oil-less air compressor. There may also be moisture accumulation in the oil tank. We recommend draining this on a daily to weekly basis based off usage. Picture needs updated, because their is no Riser on the pressure release valve, so the NEW upgraded version they send you cannot be installed without removing the entire valve that comes out of the tank! PITA!!

getting an annoying vibration coming out of the screen while running with the cover on. Anyone try a tennis racket dampener or something similar to solve this?

    Asked by: Mike G
You can run the compressor without the cover, that is perfectly fine. Turn the cover into a coffee table or scrap it.

We don't have an official storage temp, but personally I would avoid letting it sit in below freezing weather.

Kelly H. What is the fix for the 30/60 units? Perhaps a recall, a replacement part, or for the consumer to spend more money on their $2k compressor that requires once a week maintenance?

Will this operate a Coats RC-45  tire machine? This is not a business. Just a hobbyist.

    Asked by: Frank
I am unsure exactly what is required by that particular tire changer, but this compressor supplies 12.7 CFM @ 90 psi, which works great for most tire machines as they aren't a large constant draw air tool.

Every time the compressor runs it shuts and what I assume is a pressure relieve valve opens (loud air sound) and lets pressure out and slowly decreases and stops.  This air noise last about 10- 15 seconds.  Is this normal?

    Asked by: John
Yes, you are exactly right that is a pressure unloader valve to vent pressure in the scroll motor system. What you described is normal function.

How much cfm does this run around 30psi? Have two paint guns that require 14 and 13 cfm. Was wondering is this will be enough to run them at 30psi without starving them to paint a whole car.I’m only finding cfm at 90psi. Or is it 12.7cfm at 30psi as well?

    Asked by: Eddie
Because it is a scroll compressor the displacement is linear across all pressures. This is different from a piston compressor that suffers blow by as pressures increase. Two paint guns at once would be a bit much for just this compressor.

My application cannot have any compressor oil enter the airstream. It also would have to be running at least 12 hours a day. Would this be a good choice?

    Asked by: Bob4500
This is not an oil-less compressor, so you would need to add a filtering system to get the air to the quality you desire. Running 12 hours a day would be no issue as long as the regular maintenance, such as yearly oil and filter changes, is followed.

Compressor information states that the unit takes approximately 3 minutes to fill the tank, I'm assuming this is from empty. How long does it take to go from the 115 PSI cut on to the 145 PSI cut off?

How will the duty cycle hold up if I wanted to connect/add it to a larger auxiliary tank (maybe 60 gallon)?

    Asked by: Cwat000
The compressor will still flow the same CFM, and it will probably take about 9 minutes to fill the total 90 gal (30gal integral + 60gal external) capacity from empty. This compressor is rated for continuous running, duty cycle is no issue.

Is it possible to install an after cooler between the pump and the tank on this unit? I live in a humid environment and on my current compressor the after cooler and filter prevent a majority of the moisture from getting into the tank.

    Asked by: Oliver
While it may be possible, Eastwood has never attempted this and does not recommend modification to the compressor. Modification of the compressor may result in voiding of the warranty. We would recommend frequent draining of moisture accumulation in the air tank and oil tank with the drying system plumbed into your air system after the compressor.
