Description

The Eastwood soft natural rubber Expander Wheel conforms to slightly contoured pieces and leaves a smooth uniform finish.

  • Perfect for buffing sanding & developing soft or sharp edges in metal
  • Use with 6" abrasive bands
  • 6 Inch diameter Expander Wheel 1.5 Inch width
  • Fits arbor sizes 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1"

Can be used with abrasive bands Scotch Brite belts or the Trizact belts. They stay firmly in place because centrifugal force expands the rubber wheel. The Expander Wheel is designed to run at 2400 rpm so excessive cutting does not occur. The perfect tool for buffing sanding & developing soft or sharp edges in metal. Can be used for anything from sharpening tungsten electrodes to polishing stainless knife blades.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pros and minor cons I love these wheels for smoothing and de-burring things, they work fast and leave a smoother edge and finish than a hard wheel. No truing or chatter either. I have bought a second one after a friend tried to remove a sharp edged steel part, and took a big gouge out of the rubber on one side of the wheel - no body got hurt. the wheel still works fine and I'm considering narrowing it and just using narrowed sanding strips. If there is a down side, the Eastwood belts are slightly larger than some belts you can find in woodworking stores, so you can't use those. For me, the belts last so long that any price difference is unimportant.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expander Wheel Bought over a month ago and have used it a dozen time or more. Works as advertised with the bands (bought a variety). Two items of concern. One is the arbor adapters which are plastic. Put on the wheel first and very carefully put the wheel on the grinder shaft. Two, the wheel is rather out of balance but is true and round. Wondering if the vibration will do in the grinder bearings, but this I doubt - the bearings have to put up with a lot more than vibration. Bands seem durable. Have ground iron, steel, bronze and brass. Friend tells me to turn the bands around occasionally to help with durability.

So this won't work on standard bench grinders?  All of my bench grinders run at 3400-3600 RPM, even many buffing motors turn at those RPMs.  I'd love to buy this, but not if I have to buy another motor just for this...  thanks Mark

This says it is designed to run at 2400 rpm, but buffers basically run at 1700 or 3400...anyone using this & what speed is this ACTUALLY be used at?

2400 RPM is the Max speed. It is perfectly fine to run this unit at that speed or less.

Look at the length of the replacement belt, 18 15/16 long, convert to 18.937, now divide by Pi (3.1416) Your answer is 6.0278202, let just call it 6" Dia.

The 2400 rpm maximum is a deterrent to buying this wheel. Physically, what happens if you run the wheel at 3500 rpm? Does the centrifugal force expand the wheel to the extent that the abrasive band rips apart, or does it just cause excessive cutting?
