Customer Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than The Competitions I had previously purchased another product from another vender that claimed good results. I had to strip (b blast) that off and then bought this from Eastwood. It looks very close to having parts Cadmium plated. Happy with the results overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Golden Cad Kit Is Amazing! Blown Away I recently had to restore some upper shock mounts on a car we are restoring and our plater said since there is rubber and adhesive in the mounts we can not plate them over. Tried to no avail for finding NOS and no luck so I ordered the Golden Cad Kit. Heres the info I really want to share with whomever reads this. You must properly prep the previously plated surfaces well. I soaked my parts in mineral spirits for an hour then I went over them with a gray and white 3M Scotch Brite pads as this not only cleans the corrosion but also shines the surface up enough. I then hit highlights of the parts with a fine stainless steel detail brush to further brighten areas which helps with created the right look. The Gold Cad base is a high solids but the pigment and tint is absolutely spot on compared to parts we just got back from Cad Plating. What you need to do is hit the part with light over lapping mists about 6-8 inches apart. Use a heat gun to warm the part and speed drying. You also want to leave some areas of the base thin so the shiny metal underneath will poke through which helps give this a very accurate look when done. Take the red and use a fast short burst sweep around the part, best technique is to hold the part in your hand and rotate it using a wire, just hit it on all sides then pull back about 12-14 inches and mist areas as a fill in. Let dry and then grab the green can and only hit areas you want to highlight I found tilting the can 70 degrees and short bursts gave the absolute best results. When completed you will be shocked if you master your technique how well this looks. I plan to upload photos to this review so you guys can see it because my results look superior to what others are getting and even in the Eastwood video. this was well worth the money and use.

Is the golden cad base coat suitable for covering metal fuel injection lines that run from the fuel injection pump to the engine block? Lines have already been primed with red oxide.

Asked by: 4coast2
The Golden cadmium kit is not impervious to brake fluids so it would not be recommended for this application.

Following up on a previous question from 'Charles' on gas, oil and heat, it appears that this paint would not be a good candidate for valve covers on a flat-4 air-cooled engine?

Asked by: Mark S
This coating is only temp rated up to about 250-300F max. It is a lacquer based coating and will not offer much gas or fluid resistance.

New brake rotors can this product be used to paint brake rotors and will it with stand the heat of brake pressure just looking to hold on to the outer rim of brake rotor to keep it from rusting on the brake rotors so I don’t see rust.

Asked by: EDWARD
This paint has a temperature rating of 300°. The average temperature of a rotor ranges between 125° an 300°. So we would not recommend this product for your rotors.,Any high heat product will work, as long as its rated from like 400° on up.
