Epoxy primer may be topcoated after approximately 30 minutes (wait 45-60 minutes after applying more than two coats), or up to about five days. After five days, primer MUST be scuff sanded prior to topcoat application. May be sanded (wet) the day after application. Wait two to three days before sanding dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Restomod Chevy Worked great, paint needed extensive mixing due to settling. But all paint should be mixed thoroughly be for use. Spayed on good, dried to a good finish. I'm rebuilding a 56 Chevy with extensive body work, I'm using this epoxy to protect reworked pieces as a move to other areas of the car. I will use it extensively during this projet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good primer great product but the container is so flimsy it's easy to crush it when putting the lid back on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product w/ good adhesion. Was having adhesion problems with epoxy primers so I did a test. Eastwood DTM epoxy primer came out #2 bested by MP170 by just a bit. So I have no problem using it on my restored classic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from epoxy primer Easy to use and it performs well. Just be ready with your high build primer to take advantage of the window for recoat. Way less work if you can spray polyester or 2k over it right away avoiding having to abrade the epoxy

Can I cover the old paint and will it also cover some body filler so you can't see the spot that was repaired?

Asked by: eyab689
Yes, Eastwood Gray Epoxy Primer can be applied over old paint and body filler. It is designed to provide excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for use on steel, aluminum, fiberglass, body fillers, and existing finishes. Additionally, it maintains good color holdout, which helps in covering repaired spots effectively. However, for the best results, it is recommended to sand the old paint and body filler to ensure a smooth and uniform surface before applying the primer

do you need to use a reducer with this epoxy primer

Asked by: MJN23
No, a reducer is not required when using Eastwood Gray Epoxy Primer and Catalyst for Automotive Car Paint. The primer is designed with a simple 1:1 mix ratio of primer to catalyst, making it ready for use without the need for additional reducers. However, if you wish to use it as a sealer, you can optionally reduce it by up to 20% with a compatible reducer

What is the shelf life of unmixed components after opening. I still have some of this product which was opened about 12-18 months ago, and have about half left.

Asked by: JTizzle
Once opened, the shelf life of Epoxy and Catalyst remains around 9 months to 1 year, provided the containers are sealed tightly and stored properly.

Was careful with mixing and applied this over bare clean metal on a hood. It sat for over 2 weeks before scuffing with 320 on a D/A before polyester primer The sand paper filled and clogged over and over, and I used over 30 sheets. Any idea what was wrong

Asked by: RobJ
Epoxy primer has a long cure time. This can be lengthened depending on temperature and conditions when spraying and drying. You can be dealing with cure or brand of paper. Epoxy period is much harder to sand than other primers, you will fight that and have to pat the paper out frequently. It is not a favorite to sand but great durability and protection.

I am redoing a 1968 Camaro and just want to know witch way to go with priming the car , it has a coat of primerAlready on it

Asked by: Guss
It would be best for you to know what kind of primer is on the vehicle now or remove it totally. You can go with an Epoxy Primer or Urethane Surfacer at this point. Sand your current primer with 320-400 grit paper. Wipe the vehicle down well with a wax and grease remover such as Eastwood's PRE. I strongly recommend testing a small area with whichever primer you decide to be sure the old primer doesn't cause lifting and give you problems in the end.

How long will the paint last in the container after the catalyst is added? I am painting each panel after stripping down to metal so I am not doing the whole car at once.

Asked by: James
Do not mix a "bulk" batch, only mix what you need as you go. Eastwood Epoxy Primer: The pot life is approximately 90 minutes at 70°F after mixing
