Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't beat it for the price. Absolutely great starter gun. I was looking to add powder coating to my shop and had a couple of potential projects that could have used it. And I obviously don't want a huge investment if this isn't going to be a production environment. Bout the PCS-250, and have done a fair number of small items, as well as some much larger ones. Zero regrets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powder coating made easy I was hesitant in trying this myself. But this was very easy to use and the results were GREAT. I experimented with a few scrap pieces and various techniques for preparing the pieces. I am happy with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, that was easy! I bought this PC gun on a bit of a whim, and with some other items in Eastwood's PC package deal (filter, oven, some powders), and today was my first time trying it out. I have a homemade blast cabinet and first cleaned the paint off of 2 parts...then, I just fed the air compressor hose from my cabinet to the PC gun and adjusted the pressure to what I believe was around 8psi. I hooked up the PC gun, hung my blasted parts (I had no Eastwood PRE or other degreaser on hand, so I skipped that) on a piece of steel with stainless wire, and clamped the ground strap to it. PC'd outside with a slight breeze (no issues). Popped it into the pre-heated oven. This Eastwood chrome-like powder wanted a flow temp of 450 degrees but this oven only goes up to 400 - no problem at all. Basically what I'm saying here is that despite my somewhat slip-shod setup, this system and process was VERY forgiving for me. Results were well above what I expected!

Questions & Answers

I am new to this process. I understand the powder is attracted to the metal surface due to the charge running through it. What makes the powder stay in place between that and putting the item in the oven? Is it stuck on at that point before the bake?

Asked by: VinceM
The Eastwood HotCoat® PCS-250 works by charging powder particles electrostatically as they’re sprayed, causing them to cling to a grounded metal surface through static electricity. This allows the powder to adhere evenly, even on complex shapes. Before baking, the powder isn't yet bonded and can be disturbed if touched or exposed to strong airflow, so careful handling is essential until it's cured.

What size air hose do i need?

Asked by: Knottcho
To operate the Eastwood HotCoat® PCS-250 Dual Voltage Powder Coating Gun effectively, you'll need an air hose that can deliver a steady airflow of at least 1 cubic foot per minute (CFM) at 5–8 psi. A 1/4-inch ID air hose is typically sufficient for this application,

Can this be used in a house without fumes

Asked by: Truckbuilder
Absolutely NOT. Must be used in a well vented area as this produces chemical fumes during application and curing in oven. Safety Information Use a disposable dust mask when handling or applying powder. Powder, like common flour, can be explosive when suspended in the air in high concentrations. To minimize any explosion risk, sweep up—do not vacuum—powder from the floor. Cure powder in a well-ventilated area. The urethane powders we sell liberate a very minute amount of isocyanates when the powder flows out. This usually occurs about 3-5 minutes after the part is placed in the oven to bake. Wear a respirator with fresh filter cartridges when curing or inspecting flow-out progress.

What do you need to bake the powder coat to the objects?

Asked by: HandyManBill
To bake the powder coat onto objects, you need a heat source capable of reaching and maintaining the required curing temperature, typically 400°F (204°C). Here are the key requirements: Oven: A dedicated powder coating oven is ideal. It should be able to maintain an accurate 400°F curing temperature. Using a kitchen oven is not recommended, as it can contaminate food with powder residue. Eastwood offers small powder coating ovens suitable for this purpose . Infrared Lamp: For larger parts or specific applications, an adjustable infrared lamp can be used to cure the powder coat effectively . Temperature Monitoring: Use a non-contact infrared thermometer to ensure the oven or heat source is at the correct temperature before curing the powder coat . These tools ensure the powder coat cures properly, achieving full chemical, heat, chip, and abrasion resistance
