FAQs

Q: What is a hydraulic tubing bender?

A: Hydraulic tubing benders are extremely useful tools that use hydraulic pressure to bend various sizes of metal pipe and electrical conduit to specific angles. Hydraulic tubing benders work in a similar manner to hydraulic automotive jacks, using a hydraulic piston that raises to exert high amounts of pressure on the pipe between the bending dies.

Hydraulic tubing benders can perform multiple bends repeatedly, and the work can be done in less time and with less effort than manual tubing benders. This tool is particularly useful for bending steel, aluminum and brass pipes. They are often used for automotive repair, but can also be used for landscaping, concrete work and more.

Q: What is the difference between a pipe bender and a tube bender?

A: There is no significant difference between a pipe bender and a tube bender besides naming convention. If a machine is able to bend a tube, then it is also able to bend a pipe. The only exceptions to this rule would be for bending either very large or very small tube and piping.

Although there is no difference between a pipe bender and a tube bender there is a difference between a pipe and a tube. A pipe is measured by the inside diameter, while a tube is measured by its outside diameter. Another difference is that tubes do not need to be round. Tubes are available in a variety of shapes, including square and oval.

Q: How do you use a hydraulic tubing bender?

A: To properly operate your hydraulic tubing bender, make sure the "on/off" switch is in the "off" position. Next, select the appropriate bending form for the tubing that is about to be bent. Then place the tubing in front of the machine, and if needed, place supports under it to keep it in the proper bending position.

Make sure to lubricate the side of the corner bracket where the machine will contact the pipe by spreading some grease around the area. Place the brackets in the appropriate holes as marked on the bending frame. Finally, shut the bending frame and completely insert the support pins in the corner via the bending frame wings. Align the corner brackets so that the zero marks on the angle indicators line up with the mark on the top wing. Most hydraulic pipe bending machines do not have angle indicators.
