Eastwood Intercoat Clear Kit for Automotive Car Paint - Gallon

Product Overview:

Description

Create amazing custom paint jobs with pearls and metallic flakes. This 2k urethane clear coat was created specifically for dry stir in paint effects like metal flake, metallic and pearls.

  • 3:1 midcoat clear urethane for stir in paint effects
  • Superior suspension of flakes and pearl powder
  • Low-build formula for less film thickness
  • More uniform particle pattern for better appearance
  • 3/4 Gallon paint with 1 quart activator (21856ZP Med. or 21853ZP Slow) for one spray-able gallon
  • Approximate Coverage Per Gallon: 140 SQ FT
  • Maximum operating temperature: 150 Fahrenheit

Features a low-build for less film thickness, and special suspension agents mixed in to help get a more uniform pattern. Spray out your advanced show car effects with less chance of stripes and waves from flakes collecting in one space. The 3:1 paint comes in a gallon can 3/4 full, with a 1 quart activator for easy mixing. Just add your flake or pearl powder and mix with a paint mixer on an electric drill, and you are ready to spray. Unlike other similar clears formulated for paint effects ours is a modern 2k urethane, not an old school lacquer, so it’s tougher, more durable, and fully compatible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Allow 10 minutes Flash time Have sprayed this intercoat clear several times now. You do want to follow the instructions and "Allow AT LEAST 10 minutes flash time". If you rush it, runs could happen.... Take your time.....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Intercoat Clear First time sprayed any kind of flake or pearl added to clear. Used 2 level tablespoons per quart of mixed intercoat clear - applied 3 wet coats. Over rat rod black, 30 psi with 1.4 HVLP. Turns out more glossy if you let the intercoat clear dry overnight - then recoat it within the 18 hour window with 2 wet coats Euro clear - vs recoating right away. Either way flows out nice. Eastwood Super Flake sparkles and pops like its alive - like a firecracker. Photos do not do it justice.

Questions & Answers

I am planning to paint an S10 pu all over this spring. It is already black but if I use black metalic will that let some of the metalic show through the pearl top coat ?

Asked by: gregj427
Yes it certainly will. Just be sure to use a standard UV stable clear without flake mixed in over the top of this.

Will this product clear when finished look as deep as using a clear in it ?

Asked by: gregj427
This is not a standard clear. This is an Intercoat clear designed to have pearls and or metallic flakes mixed into this and applied to a surface. It is not UV stable like our standard clear coats.

Jetski's? 1st: Black epoxy sealer/primer 2nd: Lime Green (Toxic) powder 3rd: Striping w/silver and a hot pink? I want a clear without a huge build up since its in the water it can chip easy. 4: Clear? Should I use this clear with the flakes?

Asked by: Birkline
Powder coat is for bare metal surfaces. It can not be applied over primers for paint like Epoxy primer.

Others have alluded to this question but I've yet to see a good answer. Why does one need this intercoat? Why can't one just add pearl to the first coat of regular clear?

Asked by: rick
Top coat clear also treats pearls and flakes like a contamination and may break down the solvents makin them milky also when u wet sand the clear to buff  the pearls or flakes may float to surface and will look like there’s trash in the paint the mid coat dries like base coat and keeps everything under the clear

How many gallons of intercoat needed to spray a complete 4 door car? White base, with gold pearl.

Asked by: Zayy
There are many variables to your question such as the size of your 4 door vehicle, number of coats of clear, how much pearl added to the clear and door jams or no door jams. One gallon of Eastwood Intercoat Clear (15678zpa) mixed @ a 3:1 ration with Eastwood medium Activator (21856zp) will cover approximately 140 square feet. When working with Pearls it is recommended to have more material available as you may need additional coats to achieve the desired effect from the pearl. On an intermediate sized 4 door vehicle you should be able to spray it with 2 coats per mixed gallon. Door jams, under hood and under truck lid may require additional material.

Asked by: Kent
This product is intended only as a mid-coat.

This intercoat has to be clear coated within 18 hours? Whst if it's not? It has to be sanded? Then what?

Asked by: Todd
General rule of thumb is do not allow Intercoat Clear to cure (18 hours at 70°F) without first applying a protective topcoat clear or Eastwood Candeez color topcoat . A cured Intercoat will have to be sanded before proceeding, and sanding could disrupt or smear the pearl or flake additive.
