Eastwood Interstate Black Single Stage Automotive Car Paint Urethane Quart Kit

Product Overview:

Description

Eastwood Interstate Black - The deepest, darkest, blackest black available. Ultra jet black pigments are finely ground and processed for extra time for maximum color development. Available only in single-stage, which is the best way to achieve a miles-deep appearance suitable for the most high-end refinish and restoration projects.

Eastwood Interstate Black has a gloss level of 95%+ which makes it the highest gloss black paint available with a super wet and deep shine.

Eastwood's premium Single-Stage Acrylic Urethane Topcoat provides exceptional long-lasting beauty and durability.

  • Catalyzed urethane for unsurpassed durability
  • Highly resistant to UV rays, chemicals, chips
  • Makes 1 sprayable quart when mixed 3:1 with a required activator
  • Approximate coverage: 30 SQ FT
  • Max Temperature: Paint will handle up to 300 degrees without delamination, but color shift may occur, so it should not be used in a high heat setting

This premium 2-component topcoat system is blended with top-quality raw materials and advanced composition coatings technology. Superior to acrylic, alkyd and lacquer coatings. Eastwood's single-stage urethane paints hold their gloss longer and won't yellow.

SINGLE-STAGE PAINT MIXING RATIOS
Thoroughly mix three parts single-stage urethane paint with one part Activator. No additional reduction is required but can be used as needed. Use caution in mixing materials as Eastwood’s single-stage urethane paint may begin to gel after approximately two hours (at 70 °F).

PAINT GUN SET-UP
HVLP Gun: Fluid Tip 1.3-1.5 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 25-30 psi
Conventional Gravity: Fluid Tip 1.3-1.6 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 45-50 psi
Conventional Siphon: Fluid Tip: 1.4-1.8 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 45-50 psi

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Apply single-stage urethane paints in two to three medium wet coats as necessary to achieve sufficient coverage, allowing ten minute flash between coats. Additional coats may be necessary to achieve total coverage for some metallic colors. A final “fog coat” may be applied with metallic colors to help set an even flake pattern and /or adjust flake orientation. A dry film thickness of approximately 2 mil is recommended. Paint should be dust free within 10-15 minutes and tack-free within one hour (at 70 °F). Re-coat anytime after the previous coat has flashed, or before 18 hours. After 18 hours, paint should be abraded prior to re-coating for proper adhesion purposes.

This urethane paint may be applied as a stand-alone single-stage system, or in combination with Eastwood’s High Solids Urethane Clear as a basecoat/clearcoat system. Additionally, Urethane Clear may be integrated into Urethane color. When combining the two systems, be sure to activate each side (the paint and the clear) separately, with their own activators at the correct mix ratios, before blending.

When used as a Single-Stage Urethane Paint, this coating may be wet-sanded and polished for increased depth and gloss like any other urethane topcoat. Care should be taken when lightly cutting metallic colors to prevent disturbing aluminum flake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood Interstate Black Single Stage Paint No issue with this paint. Used it to put a finish coat on a buck/plug that I made for making a fiberglass part for my car. Finish had a high gloss to it and had no issues spraying it on. Since temperatures were close to 100 degrees I added a slow reducer at a 3:1:1 ratio. Paint:hardener:reducer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never again I painted my Firebird in 2019 with this paint. I took it down to metal and used ONLY Eastwood paints from start to finish. Sadly a wind storm scratched the paint on the back end deep, so I had to repaint the entire rear half of the car, this year. When working on it, now the high build black sandable primer is bubbling up. So I did my best to re sand the car as per tech support. I repainted it.... and now after wet sanding out all the orange peel, some spotes have white freckles I cant sand out. I used the ICE system and pads from Eastood. On top of that, even were I didnt use the lousy high build primer, its starting to bubble up on my hood. NEVER AGAIN!! For now I will just touch up what I can. But some day I will have to repaint AGAIN!!

Primer depends on scenarios and we would need that information to assist you. Please reach out to us by emailing tech@eastwood.com As far as reducer- it is not required be do strongly recommend the use of reducer for best flow out.

Can I add super flakes and clear over the Interstate Black?

Asked by: Charlie72
Yes this would not be an issue at all. Just be sure to then clear over with straight clear with no flake or pearl additives.

Once sanded to a 400-600 grit finish you should have no issues applying the Interstate Black over the high build primer.

Do u have to paint over primer with ssu or can u just paint over factory paint just by scuffing it ?

Asked by: Shawn K
We recommend applying at minimum an epoxy sealer coat over the scuffed and cleaned existing paint before using our SSU.

Is this on top of primer or base coat, or both?

Asked by: smike
This is a SSU (single stage urethane). It is your top coat with a clear already mixed in. It needs to be applied over a primer.

my car currently has base clear from eastwood. What do I need to do to prep for this paint? Does it NEED to go to metal of scuff and prime?

If the existing paint is in good condition you can scuff, clean with pre painting prep then prime.
