Description

Do smarter suspension work on daily drivers, race cars or restoration projects using this DIY suspension compression kit. The Eastwood Interchangeable MacPherson Strut Compressor Kit includes all the components required to compress springs on the suspension of most non-commercial vehicles. This tool is constructed of robust, high-strength steel alloy forgings and will provide years of reliable service. The included composite yoke covers protect spring finishes from scratching and chipping. You’ll also receive an actuator screw assembly, extender block and head cap screws inside a heavy-duty storage case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool! It worked, and it felt very sturdy the entire time! I used it for my 2012 Audi A5. The only drawback for me personally was that the top compressor clamp got caught between the spring, and control arm/shock absorber mount and I had to use a decent amount force to get it out. Being that my cars already low, the springs are pretty short, so going lower on the coil wasn’t really an option unfortunately. But it wasn’t bad, and was likely a user error. So I’m still giving 5 stars. Overall it made the job much easier than I was expecting, and would highly recommend!

Have never felt comfortable with either but they allowed me to replace shocks on my own rather than paying someone else. They would not work on my E Type rear suspension. I wish I had discovered the Eastwood McPherson spring compressors first, I would only have one tool and lots more hair!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked very well for my SAAB I used this tool to replace the front coil springs on my 1993 SAAB 900 Turbo. I followed the directions with the tool as well as those in the Bentley manual for my SAAB, and had no difficulty swapping out the springs. I have used other spring compressors in the past for various applications and I felt safest using this style. I chose this alternative to the official factory tool which lists for over $1,000. I also trust Eastwood's products over similar ones found on large internet retailer websites.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tool on the market. This is the best strut spring compressor tool I have found on the market. I’ve used the cheap widow maker screw clamps and they are very dangerous and cumbersome. They also damage the coating. I also tried the PowerBuilt spring compressor that requires a bench vice, rented from AutoZone. It couldn’t grab the spring properly and scratched the coating. Eastwood worked flawlessly and protected the finish. I was able to properly put everything together and I didn’t need a bench vice. Highly recommend it. One con: the body of this compressor gets scratched and damaged over time when releasing tension from the spring because the bottom spring perch tilts down and digs into the shaft on the way down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product!!! I bought this to changeout my stock struts for new coil-overs on my 2019 F150. This did not disappoint and worked as designed. I was able to compress the large spring easily and safely. The plastic covers did protect my new springs from being scratched. If your looking to do a job like this then this is the best safest one to do on a budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I Had This Sooner! This tool made compressing springs in my Jeep actually enjoyable! This tool is just like the demo video shows. It is much faster and safer compared to the “stick” type compressors. This tool compressed the spring evenly in one smooth and easy motion. The tool has a solid feel and heft to it building your confidence whenever that spring compresses. The plastic covers also prevent marring of the finish on the coil spring which is a plus. Another benefit of this product over the “sticks” is that the tool is more compact and doesn’t get in the way of other suspension components whenever you are inserting or extracting the coil spring. I won’t use any other compressor after using these. The only con I can think of is the compressor is rather large and heavy. So, if you are are trying to carry this tool everywhere as part of a mobile kit, the “stick” compressors would work better. FYI this product is made in China.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Do not use the plastic scratch protectors! Tool is well made and compresses more than the traditional double spring compressor rods. However I was injured by the spring ejecting from the tool sideways. At first I thought I made a mistake but it ejected a second time. The plastic scratch protectors DO NOT grip the spring under tension. With scratch protectors (yellow plastic guards) removed, the spring is held securely in the tool.

My only complaint is that it was difficult to accomplish the task on my 2002 Subaru front coils since there aren’t many turns to the coil making it hard to get enough squeeze without interference at coil mounts.

Did the job very well and had plenty of adjustment options but the tubularly housing is already getting shaved down from very little usage when I disassembled two front struts and had to redo the one so technically 3 struts. If it stops scraping away material over time, then I'd give it 5 stars as a little cosmetic damage doesn't mean a thing, but it brings up some concern with my current experience.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from got the job done, but descreption overstated capability I felt safer using this tool than any of the others but as Alan stated in his review it struggles with 1/2 ton truck springs, and eastwood's response was not very helpful either, they need to clarify what they consider a "commercial vehichle" overall I would recommend it for jobs smaller than pickups, but will be getting a bigger one shortly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from One sided... good with a little help from your old friends. Well made piece, much heavier duty than most spring compressors but the size does limit it operation. The biggest issue is that it's one sided, that makes the spring bow out and simply not compress enough to remove some springs. The loading is not even and required an additional old school spring clamp to even out the load. This was on a very modest miata spring, I haven't tried it on anything heavy duty yet but I can't imagine it would be better.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Can’t handle 1500 truck struts At first two looks like it’s really able to handle the job but when I use them on 1500 Silverado Chevrolet truck struts you can tell it was binding and when it was done the total was eating itself up with the pressure. I’d say it’s not safe for trucks. Maybe good for cars, but one strut on my truck and the tool isn’t useable for the other strut. One and done tool.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Recycled Shanghai Bicycles… I bought this several months ago with anticipation of being able to swap shocks on my Silverado 1500. The Yokes don’t fit my springs so now I’m putting everything back together. What a waste of time. The fella who used it on his AT4 in the reviews has two more coils on his springs than mine do. I guess the LM2 has heavier springs. Be sure your springs don’t have too much angle or this tool will never seat properly for relieving tension safely. As for the response that it’s for daily vehicles and not commercial, that’s a joke. This is a half ton, daily driven vehicle that gets 30 mpg. If your tools are only good for Camrys, just say that…. The truth is that this tool will only fit springs with a certain profile.

I'll tell you - it looks impressive and heavy duty, however the steel used is fairly soft and it bent where the brackets hold the springs (no longer parallel) with only 3 uses. It also deformed where the brackets were no longer in line with each other. The threads were also shedding metal shavings which would get stuck in your fingers. It also weighs a ton. Piece of junk!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did one strut. Damage started to happen on the tool Replaced one strut on 2008 BMW X3. When releasing the spring noticed that tool is damaged. Not sure how safe it is to use going forward. Reached out to Eastwood support a couple of times but they are taking their time to respond. Still waiting.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEE THIS TOOL ACTUALLY TAKE A SPRING ON AND OFF A STRUT ASSEMBLY. YOUR VIDEO ONLY SHOWS A SPRING BEING COMPRESSED, BUT IT IS ADVERTISED AS A MACPHERSON STRUT TOOL.

Hi I have 2013 honda accord. I bought this product 6 months ago. Front left spring fit perfectly but front right spring has different angle. You have any extra item for that. One side spring circle left to right other right to left.

What do you recommend for lubricant on the threads?

You can use motor oil for this. Just a lite coating will do the trick. Make sure that both ends of the screw shaft are lubed as well.
