Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to apply Easy to apply but I can't get any real information on a base coat several weeks later. Is scuffing sufficient or do I need to use a different primer first.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, make sure to order the roll on kit, makes the job easier. Works as advertised, great for airless applications.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tough Road to Hoe I am restoring a 1975 corvette, bought this to seal the fiberglass after removal of all previous paint. Good part, very easy to use, no need for a paint booth. Bad part, goes on really rought (using a roller, right) and needs alot of sanding. As you may have heard sanding epoxy primer is a challenge. Buy lots of paper, use a wire brush to clean. Would I do this again, maybe, but did not realize how much tough sanding there would be needed. I bought the spray can version, this goes on really smooth but may require many cans, something to consider. I have the rear clip to do, I bought spray cans.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from optiflow roll on primer takes a lot longer to apply and not nearly as even as spraying which in turn creates a lot of extra sanding and recoating( buying more product).I gave up after the epoxy primer and went with a spray on urethane instead from eastwood. A much better choice and not that much over spray.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Epic Failure. Buyer beware. Complete failure. Had to abandon Eastwood. -Product cannot be used at or above 85 deg F. Failed at 82 deg F. -Not recommended for highly curved surfaced, like 1978 Triumph. Large flat surfaces only. -Could not find any paint shop to do the topcoat. If they don't do the whole job they won't accept any liability for primers put on my customer. -Could not DIY spray due to 85 deg temperature limit. -Storage temperatures and shelf life not provided. Product may have gone bad. Lost my $,$$$ - Lots of false, misleading, and unrefunded approved RMA.

I have gone through all of the steps in the instructions. Do I need to sand this before applying the urethane primer? The reason I ask is that there are some lap marks that are visible.

Asked by: mattyd
Yes, we normally recommend doing a light block sanding of the epoxy primer prior to applying the urethane.

Does the roll on epoxy primer give off odors or fumes that can annoy neighbors? This seems like a product marketed for DIY users working in their home garage, so I'm curious if this will be fine?

Asked by: charlie
Any automotive product for the most part will put off fumes. This will conclude when the product cures fully though.

Typically yes as long as it is properly sanded and cleaned first. However, there is always a chance a reaction can occur. We would still advise you to test a small area first.

I'd like to use your expoxy primer on the rear frame of my 2000 Silverado before putting a new trailer hitch on it. Has some rust. What steps and products do you recommend.

Asked by: SteveR
I would first knock off as much lose or scaling rust as you can. Then abrade everything with 320 grit paper and clean and degrease. Then apply a coat of the Platinum Encapsulator over everything. Then apply Epoxy primer (if you really still want to, if not Platinum can stand alone or act as a primer and be top coated with mostly any of our to coat finishes).

Can I follow the following sequance? 1-Roll on 1st coat optiflow epoxy to bare metal 2-Apply filler and Complete body work 3-Roll on 2nd coat of epoxy to seal in body work. 4-Spray Polyester Primer Surfacer at a later date prior to base coat

Asked by: albarran58215
That sequence will work fine as long as you apply the second coat of epoxy primer before the five day drying window for epoxy primer after which you will have to scuff the surface before the second coat application.

After sanding a corvette down to the gelcoat with some fixed fiberglass spots and body filler, can i roll on optiflow epoxy over fiberglass? will that work as a gelcoat for fiberglass and is it compatible with fiberglass and SMC?

Asked by: Paul
Yes you can roll The Optiflow Epoxy Primer(23130ZP) over fiberglass and SMC. Epoxy Primer is not a replacement for the Gel Coat Finish on fiberglass as Gel Coat is a Top Coat finish. Optiflow Epoxy primer will seal fiberglass and provide a superior water proof base for Your Top Coat of choice.

What is the shelf time for EASTWOOD OPTIFLOW EPOXY PRIMER also if the gallon once open, can it be reusable if there is a left over, if yes then, days , months or years?, thx

Asked by: Fiji
Eastwood warrantees the OPTIFLOW EPOXY PRIMER & ACTIVATOR (23130ZP - 23131Zp) for one year from the time of purchase. The Standard shelf life for most unactivated epoxy paints is 2 years. once opened it can be used again as long as it hasn't been activated. Once activated the pot life is approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

Instructions say (p.7 last bullet) before applying this epoxy primer, wipe surface with Eastwood Pre *or acetone*. I've read conflicting views on using acetone under epoxy due to it being petroleum based. Is it ok to use under the epoxy? (dtm application)

Asked by: Zane
Our PRE painting prep or Acetone both work fine with our formula in reference here.

Can you apply the optiflow primer over a zinc phosphate coating, like what you have after using fast etch to clean out rust pits? Or should you use rust encapsulator or POR15 in the pits first?

Asked by: dac7
OptiFlow Epoxy primer can be applied over Fast Etch, once it is properly neutralized (usually cleaning with Pre Paint Prep). If you're not able to remove rust from the pits, you can apply Rust Encapsulator and then sand so the Encapsulator remains in the rusty pits, but is removed from the clean areas of the metal. Then apply Epoxy. Completely removing rust from the pits is the best option.

Can this primer be tinted? I'm not planning on painting the car anytime soon, so I would like to have red primer on the car instead of the gray that's on there now. ( A nice red, not red oxide).

Asked by: snub
We do not recommend tinting the OptiFlow Epoxy as it may take up to 1 qt to actually change color to what you need , such as red from gray. The chemistry of your tint color may affect the overall performance of our coating, so that is why we do not recommend it.
