Rated 5 out of 5 by from new opportunity with optiflow primer. this product, produces excellent results as part of the optiflow line. i was not sure what to expect from a roll on primer but i was impressed with the results. I don't have a paint both so optiflow is a great opportunity, i did not have to worry about over spray and getting it on my other cars. very happy with results and it sands well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great primer for DIY and hobbyist! I picked the epoxy kit up for an old Corvette racecar that has seen alot of body repairs over the years. I was excited to try the roll on product to save a large amount of cleanup and masking time. The primer seemed a little thin at first, but after the fist coat flashed for a few minutes, it really solidified when I went back over to "roll out" the air bubbles. This is similar to the "roll & tip" process used on some marine paints for boats. The second primer coat really started to build some film thickness. I applied the epoxy in cooler weather and gave extra time between coats to ensure the solvents had flashed. The application came out smoother than some sprayed polyester primer coats I have shot in the past. Just pay attention to the instructions, make sure everything is clean and be patient. It will work out great. when the epoxy starts to kick, resist the temptation to try to try to get the last bit applied or roll over a rough section, you will cause yourself issues, just like body filler. Based on the experience with the eopxy, I will try the urethane high build primer next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made garage painting convenient We followed directions to the letter and probably went beyond that with our cleaning directions to insure we were putting everything on a clean surface. We only ended up with a few minor runs (will sand off easily) and coverage after 2 coats was thorough. Took us a while to master the rolling skills but lightly rolling over the surface when done left us with a nice finish. Very happy with the results!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very little mess. No overspray. Nice finish with roller. Easy to apply. Very thin liquid. Works great on flat horizontal surfaces. On vertical surfaces I had a few runs. Figured it out on the 3rd panel. Runs sanded easily.

Can this also be sprayed on with HTE or HVLP instead of rolled?

Asked by: Marv
No, Eastwood Opti-Flow Epoxy Primer is specifically designed as a roll-on primer system and is not intended for spray application with conventional spray guns or HVLP equipment. If you want to spray on a primer, you should use Eastwood’s standard sprayable epoxy primers, such as Item #51128ZP

can this product be used over rust encapsulator pro?

Asked by: Rob78
Yes, Eastwood OptiFlow Primer can be applied over Rust Encapsulator Plus. However, it is essential to ensure that the Rust Encapsulator Plus is fully cured and properly prepared before applying the OptiFlow Primer. The surface should be clean, dry, and free of contaminants to ensure proper adhesion. Additionally, lightly scuffing the surface may help improve adhesion between the two products.

Can you also brush this on? What are the recommended bryshes

Asked by: Dave
Using brushes is not recommended as they are not suitable for achieving the desired smooth and even finish. 7” Foam Roller: Ideal for large, flat panels such as doors, hoods, and roofs. 6” Foam Roller: Best for roof edges, windshield pillars, body line contours, and tight spaces.

If I do not want to strip the car, but I do end up with a mix of preped old finish, filler, feathered paint and bare metal. Can I just apply the epoxy primer? or should I use epoxy for a first coat, then urethane? Still need build as well.

Asked by: Alex69
You would want your first layer to surely be the Epoxy Primer. That is going to give the best corrosion resistance for your bare metal. Then follow with your Urethane Surfacer to seal everything up and provide you the layers to block sand. 2 to 3 coats will give you the foundation to block sand and prepare for your final paint.

How do you Prep or prime or paint galvanized metal? Most of my replacement panels are galvanized. I was hoping to use roll on epoxy primer or a type of etching primer, but do not see mention of galvanized in descriptions. Thanks

Asked by: Dave
Thorough cleaning and surface preparation are essential to ensure good adhesion with galvanized. Wipe down with a good PRE cleaner. DA sand with 80-180 to rough the surface. Utilize a product like our Fast Etch to etch the metal next. The etching is important. Another final wipe down with a PRE cleaner and follow with the Epoxy Primer. If you choose to use a Self Etch Primer to etch, do NOT combine that with Epoxy. Instead seal off the Self Etch with a good Urethane Primer, no Epoxy.
