Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why I chose the roller and tray kit Excellent value. I have purchased two sets and are restoring a truck that will be Raptor lined when I get finished. I am doing this outside under a canopy, so the hot weather has slowed my progress. The rollers and plastic paint trays make it convenient to roll on the primer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to use epoxy primer without having to shoot it Works very well. The paint is rather thin when mixed. Can be brushed or rolled. Give it TIME to cure before you add your base coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised by Optiflow urethane! Easy to use products, I had no problems whatsoever applying it to a C4 Corvette body. The body had no damage but had several modifications, did all the SMC compatible bodywork and flares, blended and then applied the urethane. I skipped the epoxy Optiflow since I did not have a bare metal body on the car. The original paint was roughed up evenly in spots that were not modified, finishing with #320 before applying the Optiflow urethane. The temperature in Arizona at the time of application was around 65F-70F and cured perfectly when following the 4:1 ratio. Nice product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expoxy Primer I have used the product on 4 cars now, it has worked as advertised and provided a smooth surface to paint. When I first thought of trying it I had my doubts about rolling primer on my cars, but it works well. It self levels providing a nice surface to sand and complete finish primer for painting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roll On Epoxy Epoxy went on great! Roll it on slow and I suggest 3 coats. it goes on pretty thin.(Takes a while to flash so prepare for at least a day for project) When I blocked it smooth I had a lot for burn throughs with just two coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doing it myself I'm extremely happy with your product. Being a regular guy in a 2 car garage working on my 66 plymouth, I thought the paint and bodywork would have to be outsourced and cost me serious money. Eastwood will always be my source for the automotive products I need, that they supply. Truly couldn't be more pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well Lays down pretty well, although not as smooth as a spray gun. Sands very easily, easy to work with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Great product was very easy to use. Only issue with it was delivery. The cans were all bent up just like the can of body filler that was dropped so hard that the lid popped up and the plastic bag was full of product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from optiflow works great Works as described. Roll on has a lot of orange peel but if you spray it on it has less orange peel. So you have to have plenty of rough sand paper. I start with 80 grit and work it gently then slowly work into 120 then 180.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Paint for 1975 Corvette Retromod I did the epoxy about a year ago and it worked really well. Like others I did not have a place to spray. It mixed and applied very well. I put on three coats since it was bare fiberglass and the surface was not perfect. One tip is give it several days before sanding, it is not worth the effort if it fills the paper right away. After 4+ day sands very well; Surface ended great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from went on as advertised the primer had stipples in it when dry due to being rolled on. the stipples do sand out easily though. in some areas i had to add a second coat to cover sand through. but I had plenty so no problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works just as good as spraying! I was a little hesitant at first, i for one have a shop and a big air compressor, so i didn’t think this kit was really for a guy like me and more for someone who is unable to spray. Well i was completely sold on it after i tried it, the rollers are very fine and don’t leave a track mark like you do when you use house paint (this was my biggest fear with A roll on kit) i have since used this roll on primer on 5 different vehicles! I am a big fan of it, especially the high build urethane primer. It can go on very thick if you do a couple coats and it sands GREAT. Also a little goes a long way, i got 2 full car primes and 3 cars half primed out of one gallon. 10/10 from me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't spray in your garage, use this! Eastwood's OptiFlow system allowed me to get my car ready for paint right next to my wife's car in our attached garage. If you follow the instructions, it dries with orange peel results just like it was sprayed. If your space isn't ideal for spraying, this product is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Optiflow primer The primer works great if you can’t spray it on for what ever reason. It lays pretty flat and sands out very well. You must follow the directions and don’t mix to much of it at one time. I would recommend this primer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No spray, hurray! Purchased OptiFlow to prime bare aluminum on an aircraft. Really didn't want to deal with catalyzing vapors in the work area, nor did I want to prep for dust and dirt that would be stirred up in the old gravel/dirt floor hangar. Prepared the aluminum with Scotchbrite with an acetone wipe down to remove dirt, oils, and patches of oxidation. OptiFlow is very thin (this is NOT latex house paint), applies easily if the roller isn't loaded up heavily. Catalyzing vapors are still present so wearing a VOC capable filter mask is a good idea. Vapor is not as heavy as would be in a spay application. Pot life is very forgiving. Primer can show a slight "pimpling" and mild orange peel when applied past the pot life, but those faults are easily knocked down with 320/400 sandpaper. Second coat covers well. For my purpose, the thin coating adds less weight for a prime coat. After almost a year of hot/cold temperature cycles (0 to 90F) the primer continues to adhere well with no evidence of flaking. OptiFlow provides a base for a urethane top coat that otherwise would flake off a direct top coat to aluminum from several years of temperature cycling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great - great coverage, great finish, easy a I purchased the epoxy roll on primer kit for my 1950 Dodge Wayfarer Roadster project. After putting two coats of primer on I must say I’m very impressed. As others have noted the product mixes up very thin, but the good news there is it goes a very long way. I primed the entire car with two coats using just over 20 ounces of base and 20 ounces of catalyst. I tried both rollers and they worked fine. I did notice that after about 20 minutes the roller started coming apart so my experience is the roller limits the time more than the product. The ease of application with no masking is just plain awesome! And getting the car in “one color” after a long time being in prep is very nice. I certainly recommend this for anyone wanting to get primer on without all the pre and post processing required with traditional spray on products. I only used two coats and in hindsight would suggest at least three on a bare metal surface with some filler work. i do have a question for those who read this - after I sand this coat with 320 and do the guide coat/filler work, can I put more epoxy on top of that? Seems like I can but it’s not specifically mentioned anywhere, and since I have a ton of product left it seems more economical than buying the urethane to put on. I would eventually go with the urethane, but just thinking short term. Any help would be appreciated. Overall, great product and I have recommended it to several friends who do this crazy stuff. My only recommendation would be to start with a quart or two instead of a gallon. A little goes a long way!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Optiflow System Has us Ahead of Schedule! We are using Optiflow primer on our 383 Stroker powered '80 Vette project. We would have had to wait until Spring to primer due to temperatures too cold to spray. Moving the Vette into our house garage and roller priming has eliminated overspray onto other items in this heated area. Saves us three months! EXCELLENT results! Optiflow and fiberglass works Great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I chose to go with the roll on primer because I didn’t want to deal with all the overspray in my garage. It went on smooth and flowed out nice and flat. I had a little trouble at first with putting too much pressure on the roller and causing it to run. The run are easily fixed by backrolling over them once the paint has flashed off a little. My biggest concern was that the mixing instructions seemed to indicate you need to only mix up enough paint that can be applied in 20 minutes. I mixed 20oz to start and as it worked that was enough to do my entire car.(a 1976 Porsche 914). I didn’t encounter any problems with the primer setting up on me before I could use it all. All this was done in my garage at 72* F. Its handy to have some small foam brushes ready for catching drips and doing problem areas but they dont last long at all. The solvent will swell them and they will begin falling apart. Overall it took me 1:30 to prime the entire car. That included saving the door jambs, roll bar a-pillars and bumper attach points to be done with the aerosol cans included with the kit. Im very pleased with the results. Thanks to everyone there at Eastwood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised Used this epoxy primer on a '53 Ford F-100 restoration that was stripped to bare metal. I wanted to paint outside and avoid overspray/masking - I was able to get a smooth surface on most of the panels. The product is thin when mixed so you'll want to use the recommended rollers and procedure to avoid runs. Runs are not a big deal though as you can go back over the areas to smooth the finish out. Pot life seemed to be longer than the 20 minutes noted in the data sheet but it was pretty cool here . You'll definitely want to get the 2K rattle cans of epoxy primer to do the non-flat areas like the jambs, window seam, dash, etc. Is it quicker than spraying? Well sort of - saved considerable time by not having to mask, deal with overspray, and clean a spray gun but it will take a little longer to roll out the finish than spraying on primer. The epoxy sands well and the cab has been outside for several months under cover and no signs of any rust bleed through the epoxy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate flexibility! I'm working my way thru getting my project in epoxy and couldn't be happier with the flexibility this product offers along with great results. I can do one panel at a time or several, depending on time available. Still need to get it all in epoxy and then move to the urethane, but very happy so far!

Once opened, what is the shelf life of the catalyst?

Asked by: Russ
Any catalyst or activator that is solvent based could evaporate slightly once opened over time depending on where and how it is stored. So shelf life can vary due to many elements. Good rule is, if not used for 6 months, do a small test area first and make sure the paint or primer flashes and cures correctly. If so, then you should be okay to use it. I would replace it if close to 1 year after opening. And always,If in doubt, throw it out. ( dispose of properly according to local laws : )

What would be the best topcoat for this primer? The toughest topcoat. I'm using it for suspension parts.

I would think the toughest topcoat you can find that won't be brittle. To top coat the epoxy, it needs to be abraded and whatever you top coat it with will only bond mechanically to the epoxy surface.
