Once opened, what is the shelf life of the catalyst?

Asked by: Russ
Any catalyst or activator that is solvent based could evaporate slightly once opened over time depending on where and how it is stored. So shelf life can vary due to many elements. Good rule is, if not used for 6 months, do a small test area first and make sure the paint or primer flashes and cures correctly. If so, then you should be okay to use it. I would replace it if close to 1 year after opening. And always,If in doubt, throw it out. ( dispose of properly according to local laws : )

What is the working time once the two parts are mixed? I want to use this on a livestock trailer. Would this product be best or the spray ?

Asked by: Mike
The pot life of the Eastwood Opti-Flow Epoxy Primer, once mixed with the catalyst, is 20 minutes. It is important not to mix more than what can be applied within this time frame. Roll-on or spray is a matter of preference and equipment availability.

What would be the best topcoat for this primer? The toughest topcoat. I'm using it for suspension parts.

Asked by: Oleg
I would think the toughest topcoat you can find that won't be brittle. To top coat the epoxy, it needs to be abraded and whatever you top coat it with will only bond mechanically to the epoxy surface.

After stripping my car to base metal and applying the roll on Epoxy primer, how long can the car be left at this stage before moving to the next stages of body work and sanding?

If stored indoors or covered and not exposed to sunlight this can be left stored for long periods of time without issues. The Epoxy will seal the metal/ substrate and prevent moisture/rust related issues from occurring.

I am painting a fiberglass bodies and was looking at your tool on primers.  What is the difference between epoxy primer and urethane primer?  Why use both?  Can I just use one?  Why would I pick one over the other?  Thanks!

Asked by: ExtremeRacer
Epoxy Primer is a strong sealer. Urethane is a self leveling hi-build surfacer. On bodys we use both. Depending, if the body is absolutely flawless Epoxy. If there are some sm.imperfections, hi build Urethane. I restore and use both. Scuff with Scotch Pad (RED), and clean surfaces thoroughly between products
