Guides & Accessories

Safety Information

Always wear eye, skin and respiratory protection when painting. Follow label directions and consult MSDS for specific warnings.

Application Tips

Chassis Black auto chassis paint is a durable, high solids paint that can be applied to bare metal/primed surfaces. Chassis Black works great over bare metal, Chassis Black Primer, or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. Allow 15-20 minutes between coats. Recoating after 12 hours will preserve the same gloss level. After application, the object should dry overnight before use. For best results, use when can is between 70°F to 90°F, 50% or less humidity. DO NOT topcoat Chassis Black with Chassis Black more than 45 minutes after last coat as lifting may occur. DO NOT use Chassis Black over single-stage Self-Etching Primer.

What is the proper primer to use on bare metal parts before spraying with your Satin Black paint.

Asked by: D Lagle
The best bare metal primer for use with this paint or the Extreme version would be the Extreme Chassis Black primer found here: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-extreme-chassis-black-primer-set.html

RE: Quart or Gallon sizes. What is the recommended reduction and what type of reducer is necessary to spray this through an automotive spray gun?

Reducing this product is not required to spray. If you wish to reduce this we recommend using Acetone no more than around 20% max.

What options do I have for painting suspension springs besides powder coating?

Asked by: Michael
Powder coating would be the most durable option. However, you can also use any of our Chassis Black paints for this application- especially our 2k Ceramic Chassis black would work great.

The product description says not to use it where humidity is greater that 50%. The car is in Oklahoma and we are always way over 50% humidity is there a way to get this product sprayed on properly with high humidity?

Asked by: aviator2007
At that point we recommend painting in a temperature-controlled environment such as a garage or waiting for a day close to 50% humidity. Anything over the 50% will cause curing issues.

Asked by: danny
AS listed on the MSDS form the Chassis Black Satin Coating 10025Z flash point, liquid >-17.0 degrees C (1.4 degree F) flash point, propellant -104.4 degrees C (-156.0degrees F) Autoignition temperature liquid 230.0 degrees C (446.0 degrees F) The Eastwood web site is operational at this time. You will need to contact Wagner for information pertaining to compatibility with their sprayer as Eastwood does not have the necessary data to make that determination.
