BASECOAT PAINT MIXING RATIOS
Thoroughly mix four parts Low-VOC Urethane Basecoat with one part Low-VOC Urethane Activator. Use Fast (50308ZP) for small jobs, or temps below 75°F; Medium (50309ZP) for small jobs, or temps between 70-85°F; or Slow (50310ZP) for large jobs, or temps above 80°F. Keep in mind, other factors, such as humidity, air flow and total film thickness should also be considered. In many situations, it will be useful to add 10%-20% 50104ZP Zero-VOC Reducer to aid sprayabliity, flow and leveling. Remember, this is an activated basecoat system; only mix as much as is needed. Pot life is about 2 hours at 70°F.

PAINT GUN SET-UP
HVLP Gun: Fluid Tip 1.2-1.4 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 8-10 psi
Conventional Gravity: Fluid Tip 1.2-1.5 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 40-50 psi
Conventional Siphon: Fluid Tip: 1.3-1.6 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 40-50 psi

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Apply Low-VOC Urethane Basecoat color in two full medium wet coats with a consistent 50% overlap pattern. Allow five to ten minutes flash time between coats. Flash time should increase if additional coats are applied. Most colors will cover in two coats. A third and final coat may be applied to set even metallic pattern. If required, apply this light coat immediately after the previous full wet coat, moving the gun with faster passes, from further away. Mist basecoat onto the wet film until the metallic pattern is uniform.

Basecoat should dry dust-free within 10-20 minutes. May be lightly sanded in as few as 20 minutes. Wait at least 30 minutes before wet sanding. Wait 45-90 minutes before taping on the fresh film. All dry times are approximate, at 70°. Temperature, air flow, total film thickness and other variable may extend these times.

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lacking Pearl Quality of product is great, a bit disappointed in the lack of pearl content. Very fine and extremely subtle. Sprayed over bright white and used show clear to finish

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a base coat I bought this a little over a month ago, I was under the impression that this was a white pear base coat as that is what its called and was under the basecoat section on Eastwoods website. This however, is not. This is just the pearl and must be sprayed over top of white. This has no pigment and will not give you any color at all. If you are looking for a pearl white basecoat this is not It. If you are looking for a three stage paint system then this is what you are looking for. This product is probably a good product but it is miss represented and not what its claimed to be. Like I said not a basecoat and has not pigment.

Questions & Answers

Do I need reducer in accordance with activator with the paint? Of can I just use Activator?

Asked by: Devilmann
The only required items for this is the paint and the activator. This gets mixed 4:1 (4 parts paint to 1 part activator). Reducer is not required but strongly recommended. Any of our Urethane reducers can be used and the paint (once mixed) can be reduced up to 20%.

Can I spray the single stage Pearl Necklace over the single stage Pure White after the pure white flashes, or should I wait until the white cures, (sand) then pearl over?

Asked by: Tdog
I did this with the pure white base and pearl necklace midcoat. Let the base flash over, then go right to the mid coat (pearl). I'm not sure how it would work out with the single stage paint. That's not what a single stage is designed for. If you do this then you will need to spray a clear coat anyways.

Back in the 70s I had my car painted pearl white with a flip flop red an gold color change do you guys have something like that ?

Asked by: Dave 55
Unfortunately we don't have the ability to match any existing colors. We don't have a paint specifically designed to flip flop colors. We do have holographic flakes though which can make some pretty awesome effects.

how would a ghost blue pearl in the first clear coat look like over the white pearl??

Asked by: slantback37
We are unable to answer this question due to the many variables that go into spraying a pearl coat. We do recommend suspending them in an Intercoat Clear before applying the final clear coat.

Can I use a blue pearl with this base coat

Asked by: Lwb83
The Blue Pearl was formulated to be applied over pure white. You can try it over the Pearl Necklace, but it will produce a different look. We would recommend painting a test panel first, so you can see if this is the color that your trying to achieve.

How many gallons will it take to paint my 1970 cougar?

Asked by: Jrvr
This depends on how much of the vehicle you're doing. If you are only doing the outside generally you can get away with one gallon. If you plan on painting the inside, jambs, under hood areas then we recommend 2 gallons.
