Rated 2 out of 5 by from goes a long way but does not protect Have tried the rust encapsulator, wire brushed the original rusty surface and brush applied. Looks really good, pretty stinky though. I tried both one layer and two layers- after about a month of regular driving, all the rust comes back. Tried two layers, the same problem. Have used on several vehicles on both rusty to lightly rusty surfaces with the same results. A year later and it look like I never even applied this stuff. really dissapointing as I removed entire suspensions/subframes and painted them only to have them look like crap a year later.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rust encapsulator paint Happy with the product. But the can it comes in... The lid is so hard to remove, it butchers the lid trying to get it off. The lid no longer seals. I used some, and the next time I went to use it the product was rock hard... total waste of money.

Questions & Answers

Can you spray epoxy primer over rust encapsulater, and what grit sandpaper should you use before applying epoxy primer. I’m also wanting to top coat with under hood black.

Asked by: Sean
Yes, our Epoxy primer can go over our Encapsulators without issues (with the exception of the Rubberized version). If fully cured, you would want to sand with 220 prior to applying the Epoxy primer.

How does this compare to POR15? Or is it the same stuff, just with the Eastwood name?

Asked by: wise old man
This is the same concept as POR15 a moisture cure coating. However, it does not require multiple products if bare metal is present like POR15 will. You would just need to sand and clean prior to applying rather than having to clean and etch the surface.

I have a 2005 Toyota Matrix with severe rust on the roof. I don't care about the color or the look of the roof. I just want it protected. Will this product last say, 2 years? Or should I just pay MAACO $325 to sand/paint? I'm in Florida, UV city.

Asked by: JonJon
Personally I would recommend that you properly sand the roof, use a rust converter, then prime and paint. Or let MAACO do it. You would probably be money ahead in the long run.

I’m getting ready to repaint my boat trailer used in fresh water only , just very light surface rust . Would you recommend this first before the blue top coat .

Asked by: Kevin
If rust is present and you plan to apply a coating over and not mechanically or chemically remove the rust- this would be a great option to apply first.

The surface should be sanded with 320 grit paper and cleaned and de greased before applying. Please be aware this coating is only good up to 400F.

I have a horse trailer that I am repainting. The inside has some paint left and a lot of surface rust. Can I use this over the rust and paint and then apply seam sealer to seams and then later topcoat with your single stage paint?

Asked by: Michael
Yes, there would be no issues with this being done. As long as there is no bare metal showing when you go to apply the SSU paint.

How much is needed to do the floors on A body car ? (65 GTO)

Asked by: Bowdoc
One quart of Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator Plus, covers approximately 96 sq feet and should be enough to do a single coat coverage of the floor on your 1965 GTO.

Will this stuff adhere to existing paint? Would rather cover the whole floor of the project car than just the surface rusted areas.

Asked by: Andrew
If you scuff sand the existing finish and then clean it, you can apply Rust Encapsulator Plus over the rust and painted areas.

Do I need reducer to spray this product in spray gun ??

Reducer does not need to be used to apply this with a paint gun. If you use a 1.5-1.7mm fluid tip set you should be fine.

After Curing, what effect does gasoline have on it? Looking for a replacement for Wurth Rust Guard, which is no longer availible.

This product is not gas resistant to a certain point. However, overexposure will eventually wear at the product.
