Premium Metal Cutting Power

This innovative, affordable, plasma cutter was designed and developed by Eastwood's own R&D staff and tested in-house on the same type of real-life projects you'll use it for. It doesn't matter where you need to work, because this plasma cutter's voltage-sensing technology lets you use either a 120v or 240v outlet with our adapter cord. It can cut through 1/8-thick metal on 120v power, enough for thin-gauge sheet metal and light fabrication. This portable plasma cutter is lightweight as well, weighing less than 24 pounds so you can easily bring it along or plug it into a generator.

Inverter technology offers superior arc stability and plasma cutting power. A built-in pilot arc system allows for instant arc striking and ease of use when cutting rusty material and expanded metal. The internal moisture separator helps to ensure clean dry air gets to the torch to give you consistent results. With a duty cycle of 60 percent, this plasma cutter will cut at 40 amps for up to six minutes before it needs to cool. It also requires just 5 to 7 cfm of air at 60 psi, which can be supplied by common shop compressors. Amperage and air pressure is easily adjusted on the front of the unit.

It is high frequency and while some feel this is a negative it is specifically why I love the plasma cutter. I use it exclusively for cutting used oilfield pipe and blowback start machines simply have to hard of a time achieving adequate grounding for consistent cutting. This machine cuts every time, no question. I also appreciate the customer service you get with this machine if I ever have any issues.

I like the fact that it is dual voltage and it seems to work on a very wide range of materials quite nicely and once I got the speed down that I should Advance the torch at I ended up with a nice clean-cut. The consumables for the torque are available at my local Welding Supply our which is fantastic and there was even though bonus of when I spoke to them I found out that there is a smaller tip/nozzle that I could get for it that made it unbelievably smooth cutting thin sheet metal and for a very small investment I got the needed nozzles and the flow gauge for the smaller nozzles. It is definitely a huge place for me to be able to get consumables right down the street at my local supplier. The unit seems very well constructed and is unbelievably light so it can easily be portable so far I absolutely love it!!

I’m also using it to cut stuff like shock mounts off frames, getting into spots where I could never fit a grinder is great.

There are great tools, there are awesome tools, then there are life changing tools. This is a life changing tool! Out of the box first time using one I decided to cut a five foot wide piece of 1/4 inch rusty oily plate that looked like somebody used a beaver to cut. Cut it quick and smooth with no hot pieces of metal flying back at me. Do yourself a favor when you’re setting up your shop and buy one of these first. You’ll save a bunch of money on tools you really aren’t going to need once you get this!

All too often these days you buy equipment from folks people who design equipment however it becomes obvious they have never had to use it! This is not the case here! It come with a very nice long torch cable (20 Feet) . The torch has a very nice round tip with a square shoulder. This is very important because if this fellow is to cut a nice strait line he will need to run this up against a guide (you may get away with it but thing guy can't). The onset is a nice even 1/2 inch which makes the guide placement easy. Following the guide (this is a drag cut) will produce a nice even cut with little kerf. I love this machine! Some things I have learned: Air pressure is critical, too much or two little and you will not initiate the ark! Recently cut a hole in a frame only to find out it was re enforced. It was 1/2 in thick, no problem! Toss that little air flow gage that comes with it, tried to use it and it went off like a flash cube! I love this machine and now my Band Saw can have a well deserved brake!

Asked some questions to Eastwood without any satisfactory answers, but thru my own research decided this was the best machine for the buck... I am using this for Artsy Fartsy kind of stuff with thin copper & steel... I have cut many linear feet with it & it FAR out performs the Lotus cutter that I borrowed... I am looking forward to many happy hours of cutting with this torch... If you are looking for a Plasma cutter this in my mind is worth the extra $100 over the other Chinese made machines... You can get consumables at your local welding shop BIG plus !!!!!!!!!!!

I really put machine to a test by cutting over 3 feet of 3/8" thick I beam for some garage entry ramps. I did not expect speed but it did the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Got this to do floor work on my old chevys, got set up but didn't use it for a few days, My buddy came over who never use one, so we spent next 3 hours play with it, I'm very impressed with how easy it is to use from different setting to metal thickness. It only took me 20 minutes to cut the rusty floor out of my 52 tin woody, much better then cut off saw or torch. I chose this one because of the long leads and the 3year warranty.

I have only used it once just to try it out and was happy the set-up was easy and the 16 gauge steel cut like butter. Will do another review in a few weeks after more testing. PS. the customer service is great the machine comes with a handheld mask mine had a broken lens i emailed them and they shipped me a new one will be shopping more at Eastwood.

Yes the VersaCut 40 and 60 use the same cutting nozzle and air diffusser but the electrode and outer nozzle are different.

Our units use relatively common style torches (Trafiment CB50 Torch Assembly; to be exact). If you find another brand that uses this style torch- the consumables should interchange.

How do I get a gouging nozzle to remove spot welds or a quarter panel, Do you have a part number I don’t see one available and that’s an auto body or tool that I did I see the other manufacturers offer that but it’s much more that I could not afford

I have used this machine for many years. I hold onto my used consumables and when needing to gouge I use the worn nozzles, the plasma stream is less concentrated and more feathery.

When cutting expanded do you have to pull and release the trigger between holes or does it continue to cut with trigger on

If the gap is large enough the plasma may revert to the pilot arc while traversing, but the user should be able to hold the trigger the entire time and the unit will cut if the appropriate care is taken to move at the correct rate.

It says 3/8 max cut. Is that max clean cut or severance cut? If max clean cut what is the severance cut?

The clean cut on the Plasma 40 is 1/4 inch to 5/16 inch thick and the severance cut would be 3/8 inch this to 716 inch thick. I personal have clean cut 3/8 pnch thick mild steel by slowing down the cut and moving smoothly along a solid guide bar.

Specs state "Infinite Settings".. It this JUST Wire Speed?? OR are the (welding) Amps also "infinitely" adjustable?? I had a Century 100 that had both amps and wire speed "infinitely adjustable". THIS feature made me a "real" MIG Welder!!

The amperage dial on the Versa Cut 40 is a Variable Amperage Dial. You increase the Amperage according to the thickness of the metal you will be cutting. A setting of 20amps is good for cutting up to 1/8" or .125 inches thick. A setting of 40 amps is good for cutting up to 5/16" or .312 inches thick.

Does this have a drag torch or do you have to keep it off the working surface?

This does not have a drag tip. It can be used as one however you will burn through your consumables at a very fast rate. Ideally, this should be held about 1/4" off the surface once the arc is initiated.

Yes our Plasma cutters that we currently offer are high frequency start machines. Because of this- they should not be used with CNC set ups.

Please Clarify that the unit comes with a 6-50P (Plug-Male) for 220V that will connect to a wall mounted 6-50R (Receptical-Female) and it comes with a 6-50R to 110V-15 Amp house hold plug pig tail. A couple of answers are incorrect.

The Plasma cutters can cut anything as long as it can conduct current, and depending on the thickness of the metal. The cutting ability of the plasma cutter would also determine which unit you would need.
