Description

Gel Rust Dissolver sticks to large surfaces to dissolve rust...no need to submerge the metal

  • Ideal for roofs, deck lids, hoods, frame rails and more
  • Simply wire-brush off loose rust and scale, then apply gel with a brush
  • Penetrates deep into the metal, dissolving rust in just a few hours

Eastwood's Gel Rust Dissolver harnesses the powerful rust-dissolving properties of our popular liquid rust dissolver and puts them into a sticky gel, so no submersing is needed!

WARNING: This is an acid-based formula that can damage aluminum and plated surfaces like chrome. Also, this product can be corrosive to metals so only allow it to stay in contact with the substrate long enough to remove unwanted rust.

What's Included
1-gallon jug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still love this stuff This stuff works exactly as I expected. I bought my first gallon of Eastwood rust dissolver MANY years ago and it still works well. The only caveat I have is if you're cleaning rust from bolts, nuts and washers, make sure that -- after your rinse them -- you place them in a container, spray them down with WD40 and shake them up. I was experimenting with a big pile of miscellaneous hardware car and motorcycle folks accumulate, and found that the parts will look as bad afterwards if you forget to lubricate them as I did! (The "good" news is that they will all be the same color rust!) ;-) After another short soaking my parts cleaned up perfectly once again and I was ready to lube and store them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I never used the gel so I bought a quart when I purchased a quart of the "regular" product. More gel-like than liquid, but not exactly what I expected. No matter, it works well; I was pleased. I bought my first gallon of Eastwood rust dissolver MANY years ago and it still works as expected. Don't forget to lubricate your parts with something like WD-40 after you wash them... unless our plan is to paint them right away. In that case, prep as appropriate.

Has anyone tried to use this to free up a seized engine? I believe i have a handful of rings stuck to cylinder walls in a project truck i just picked up. If anyone has tried this, did it work? And if anyone from Eastwood reads this, good or bad idea? Thx

Asked by: Brian91
To answer your question: BAD idea. If you believe you have a seized engine, no product out will help free it up. "Seized" is usually due to a catastrophic failure like wiped out main bearings, for example. This will need full disassembly and engine machine shop services. If you have just stuck rings you could pull spark plugs and spray a high quality penetrating oil into each cylinder and let soak. There are many videos and products, on the internet, about stuck rings and various opinions and procedures are out there to help fee it up, but disassembly an internal inspection is the safest bet.

I have a car that had a vinyl top on it and because of that, there is some decent pitting along with surface rust. Would the Rust dissolver or rust encapsulator be better for treating the rust?

Asked by: DaveK
With either you need to remove as much rust a s possible. Dissolver first.

Can it be used on an aluminum pontoon toon?

Asked by: Barry
The Gel and Liquid Dissolver are acid based solutions and can damage Aluminum. We would not recommend this be used for an application of this sort.

I have a Dewalt titanium coated drill bet set that got wet. All the bits have spot rust. Will this remover damage the titanium coating if I soak them?

Asked by: Mike
Just a correction, the product states “Acid Free”, but most likely, your bits have either lost some coating or are dirty from some very small metal shavings or the water that came in contact was imbedded with iron oxide from another tool. If the bits are sharp and functioning, wipe them down with a spray lubricant.

After application do you wash it off before paint/primer and if so with what?  Also what kind of primer to use after. Application?

Asked by: EJ1957
Yes, this is to be removed before proceeding. The instructions state to rinse with water but Acetone would be a better option. As far as primer- a sealing primer should be used like Epoxy or Self Etch.

Can I use this to remove bubbled up corroded rust on my metal support beams, not sure what type of steel they are?

Asked by: Terri
If there is no existing paint down then yes. You will still want to use a wire brush/disc to knock off as much lose or scaling rust as you can prior to applying and using this.

I used this product to remove rust from some old nuts and bolts and they have become copper plated. why?

Asked by: Algy
Some manufacturers use copper plating as an intial plating step, to obtain better adhestion of the next coating, in a longer series of layered plating steps. I suspect your bolts lost the outer plating coating(s) and were left with (some of) the original copper plating coat after rust removal cleaning. Unsure how that coating would then behave soaking in rust remover.
