Eastwood Rust Converter Aerosol

Product Overview:

Description

Instead of throwing out rusted automotive parts that you know will be hard to replace, use Eastwood Rust Converter to restore their performance. This acidic paint is formulated for panels and parts that have heavier rust but still are structurally intact. By spraying or brushing Rust Converter on the surface, you trigger a chemical reaction that turn residual rust into more stable iron oxide. It also forms a paintable black protective coating that is compatible with most topcoats. Last but not least, Rust Converter seals the metal to help prevent future corrosion.

Use rust converting treatment as part of a complete restoration process that gets your barn find back on the road. Our formula penetrates the metal quickly and doesn’t require any sanding. Since the paint is water-based, it’s much safer than traditional solvents. The Eastwood Garage has much more information about Rust Converter, including when to use it versus other anti-rust solutions (such as Rust Encapsulator ). Extend the life of your vehicle by doing the job right with a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee.

  • Rust Converter stops residual rust, and turns it into a black, protective, ready-to-paint coating, without sanding. Just apply to transform the rust
  • Penetrates faster than other brands
  • No sanding needed - just apply to transform rust
  • No mixing needed
  • 90 Day Warranty

Eastwood's own high-tech formula converts rust into a protective polymeric coating that's ready to go as a primer, and is compatible with most top coats. That new protective coating will also seal the surface against moisture to prevent future rust growth.

Our customers have told us about a lot of different uses for this versatile product. Available in an aerosol spray or liquid containers, this rust converter will help you either restore or maintain your project vehicle. Contact us today by phone or email, and we'll answer your questions about whether this handy product can help your situation.

This high-tech formula halts residual rust in its tracks and converts it into a black protective polymeric coating that eliminates the need for sanding. The converted protective coating is a suitable primer, and is compatible with most top coats. Simply remove loose rust with a wire brush, then apply Eastwood’s Rust Converter. Allow to dry, then top coat it with a quality coating, such as Eastwood’s Chassis Black. Single component; no more mixing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sheet metal saviour The Eastwood rust converter is the most amazing product I have purchased in 40+ years. I had purchased a bottle some time ago and used a paint brush to apply it to the rusty areas where it did it’s magic. I watched in aw as it literally turned the rusty metal back into a hard, tuff and durable metal once more. I was blown away, and I am again every time I brush or spray the Eastwood rust converter on any rusted metal. And what’s fun is to show how this product works to my friends and the look of their faces when they actually see the product perform. I am sure tha a few of them will be on you site to order this product for themselves. Thank you gentlemen, it’s a top quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product Purchased a gallon few months ago and immediately tried to spray hard to reach areas and had issues getting a good flow, made a mess for sure. Second attempt to use to get those hard to reach areas went a little better after mixing thoroughly. The third application on frame decided to just brush on and the product works great. Within a few hours the frame looks like it was sprayed with gun. I did very little prep just remove top surface of rust with a wire brush and wiped down with Eastwoods PRE. Hopefully weather breaks soon so I can spray with Encapsulator and Extreme Chassis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Wild Stuff! Just used this product on the frame to my Chevy Truck project. I don't have the setup to pull the whole body entirely off a vehicle so that I can freely grind and wire wheel a frame down to spotless shiny metal, so I opted to this product, since I have used Eastwood's Fast Etch Before which is somewhat similar. All I can say is I'm satisfied. I purchased a gallon and still have a good quantity left. I lightly brushed the frame down with welding wire brushes, and chiseled off areas of extreme "cached on" rust. Cleaned everything off with de-greaser and applied the converter with brushes. You can literally watch this product work as you start applying it. My rusted up frame began turning black in a matter of minutes. Looked fantastic. Applied another coat like the directions state, and now I have left it to cure. I will be following up with some marine grade primer and topcoat I already have, otherwise I would've ordered Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator as well. One thing is for certain however, this does absolutely nothing to bare metal! I had a couple spots which were clean/bare from being covered by various brackets. This chemical didn't phase it at all. So definitely keep that in mind if you plan on using this with fairly clean metal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, simple & easy to use My dad wanted to refresh his open car hauler and I had a bottle I haven't even used yet. He was working on that trailer a lot and used up the bottle, so I bought another one. We're both extremely happy with the results.
Date published: 2017-07-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use as intended....... Follow the directions on container. Do not use over color coats or other top coat finishes. Converter will cure if applied over primer or media blasted metal. I have used numerous rust converters during the last 30 years, and this is by far the best product on the market ... when used properly.
Date published: 2016-09-23
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rust Converter Brush On I have bought many times because it works so well. I will continue to use in the future.

Just wonder how many do I need it for all 4x4 frame ??

Asked by: Nova Tom
1 quart of Eastwood Rust Converter (51676) should be enough to brush cover a bare 4x4 frame. Should there be accessories attached to the frame that need coating the amount may increase beyond the capacity of a 1 quart bottle.

how much time do I have to apply Rust Encapsulator after Rust Converter has cured (ie. after 48 hours of applying Converter)

Asked by: Peter
Technically there is no maximum amount of time. However the Converter is not a permeant stable surface and needs to be top coated before the piece should be exposed to the elements.

I used your rust converter on an outdoor metal wall planter. Worked good on converting rust and now has a great patina that I do NOT want to topcoat. What will happen to the finish over time not being topcoated? Thanks.

Asked by: Jim42
It will continue to rust further as you let it sit. You can clear coat it to slow the rusting down but it will rust more over time if not treated.

I am restoring a 67 mustang. The roof is badly pitted due to vinyl  top, will rust converter be the best choice here and can filler be applied over?

Asked by: Wayne
Body fillerand primers can certainly be applied over the top of this Rust Converter. When applying this product- it should not come in contact with any existing paint and it should only be used on pretty severe rusted metal or moderately rusted metal since it chemically needs this to convert itself.

I purchased a 2011 Jeep Wrangler and want to get rid of the rust on the underbody and parts. Would this be a good product for such application or are there too many parts that would be affected by the product in a negative way? I live in Western New York

Asked by: Forcable Entry 122
This product should not come in contact with any existing finish or it will damage the surface to where you need to strip that area down to the bare metal. It should also only be applied to moderate to severe rust since it chemically needs rust to be able to convert itself. You can use this as a spot treatment on the severe areas then apply one of our Encapsulator products over the top of everything.

will power washing with degreaser remove the film left after curing is complete?

Asked by: boorhadly
This product chemically converts the rust into a black polymeric coating that you then need to top coat. if there is anything other than a black coating left after using this- the product was not ideal for your application and you would need to sand to remove the film left behind.

I have a typical Rusted Dodge Ram 2500 Frame, I am actualy welding in new 1/4 inch thick sections 30 in long,Have been trying to get all lose rust scale off with a hammer and the needle gun,I bought encapsulator already,Should I do rust converter first?

Asked by: Wiechman
The Converter should only be applied to pretty moderate to severe rust. It needs the rust to be able to convert itself. Then it can be top coated and the Encapsualtor would be a great option. It also can not come in contact with any existing finish because it will damage it. If it is just mild rust the Encpaslator and Chassis Black would be your best bet.
