Eastwood Rust Converter Aerosol

Product Overview:

Description

Instead of throwing out rusted automotive parts that you know will be hard to replace, use Eastwood Rust Converter to restore their performance. This acidic paint is formulated for panels and parts that have heavier rust but still are structurally intact. By spraying or brushing Rust Converter on the surface, you trigger a chemical reaction that turn residual rust into more stable iron oxide. It also forms a paintable black protective coating that is compatible with most topcoats. Last but not least, Rust Converter seals the metal to help prevent future corrosion.

Use rust converting treatment as part of a complete restoration process that gets your barn find back on the road. Our formula penetrates the metal quickly and doesn’t require any sanding. Since the paint is water-based, it’s much safer than traditional solvents. The Eastwood Garage has much more information about Rust Converter, including when to use it versus other anti-rust solutions (such as Rust Encapsulator ). Extend the life of your vehicle by doing the job right with a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee.

  • Rust Converter stops residual rust, and turns it into a black, protective, ready-to-paint coating, without sanding. Just apply to transform the rust
  • Penetrates faster than other brands
  • No sanding needed - just apply to transform rust
  • No mixing needed
  • 90 Day Warranty

Eastwood's own high-tech formula converts rust into a protective polymeric coating that's ready to go as a primer, and is compatible with most top coats. That new protective coating will also seal the surface against moisture to prevent future rust growth.

Our customers have told us about a lot of different uses for this versatile product. Available in an aerosol spray or liquid containers, this rust converter will help you either restore or maintain your project vehicle. Contact us today by phone or email, and we'll answer your questions about whether this handy product can help your situation.

This high-tech formula halts residual rust in its tracks and converts it into a black protective polymeric coating that eliminates the need for sanding. The converted protective coating is a suitable primer, and is compatible with most top coats. Simply remove loose rust with a wire brush, then apply Eastwood’s Rust Converter. Allow to dry, then top coat it with a quality coating, such as Eastwood’s Chassis Black. Single component; no more mixing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good product I have used this on a 1978 GMC pickup and an Allis Chalmers tractor. It is a very effective product but when the shipping cost is a quarter of the price of the item, that leaves a little bit to be desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great I used this on an old steel trailer bed. It had gotten pretty rusty hauling horse poo for the garden and 60 years of use. I followed the directions getting all the loose rust off and applied the product. All the rust turned black as it said it would. Made a good surface for bed liner to go over top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described Product works as described, just follow directions on bottle. It does need 2 coats for better protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good. First off, my order arrived lightning quick. Eastwood cut a perfect light on this shipment. When I order something I want it now and Eastwood never disappoints. As far as the rust converter, I've used it so far on a John Deere mower deck that I've rebuilt and on a 2001 Ford F-150 that I'm trying to extend its service life. After wire brushing away the loose rust I painted on two coats of rust converter as directed, followed by Eastwood's rust encapsulator. Both the converter and the encapsulator go on easy but the encapsulator stars to dry and gets tacky fast so keep that in mind. Also I wore a good quality respirator mask. The fumes are hard on the lungs. The job when done looked great. Hopefully I've added years of rust free service to my equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great if you brush it on Buy the quart bottle, clean the surface of loose rust, prep with Acetone and brush it on with a foam sponge brush - works excellent. Dont buy the aerosol - very poor results with the aerosol on the same parts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for heavy frame rust Used this in areas of heavy rust; the spray pattern was great nice and wide. Did a good job turning rust. In lighter areas where I could sand the rust it was not as effectively. However I always follow up with the rust encapsolater to address all rust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This stuff works great over sound rust, but don't put it over any painted area. I wire brush off all loose rust and apply 2 coats and let it dry for 3 days and then apply 2 coats of rust encapulator and you can be sure it will last for years. I have used these products since Eastwood started selling them and they do work, but you must follow their application directions.

what is the difference between the Rust Convertor or Fast Etch? which would I use to treat a surface rust car frame? Still use a wire bush for for inital cleaning?

Rust converter physically converts the rust prepping for your paint job on a very heavily rusted area. Fast etch is an acid based cleaner best used on surface rust or on areas that have pitting.

I see that RUST ENCAPSULATOR is good to 400 F. Is Rust Converter the same or was that a mistake on your part ? Is there any produce that I can use to paint over a rusted exhaust pipe to prolong its life. It is still solid metal, just a lot of surface.

Asked by: Bill C
The converter is also rated to 400F. If you wish to prolong the life of our exhaust with the products we have you would have to use a rust dissolver first followed by any one of our Exhaust coatings.

You would want to use the Rust Converter, then apply your Epoxy primer, and your top coat. Rust Encapsulator is a non catalyzed coating, i would not recommend applying catalyzed products over top of it for durability reasons.

Can rust converter be used to kill the rust that is between the panel seams, then the outer surface cleaned off and coated with rust encapsulator, and then top coated? I'd like to arrest any further damage in the panel seams before repainting.

Asked by: SuzukiTom
Converter shouldn't be applied between panels since you cannot tell if it is 100% rust. Our internal frame coating is a better product.

Rust converter has to be on 100% rust to work. All the areas where it sprayed over top of the primer it will never dry. You will have to remove the converter before moving on in these areas.
