Description

Eastwood's Self-Etching Weld-Thru Primer combines the benefits of a weld-thru and the capabilities of a traditional self-etching primer.

  • Enhances adhesion and durability of top coats
  • Prevents corrosion and reduces spatter
  • Non-conductive organic binders
  • Gray color
  • Made in the USA

This unique self-etching primer formula has organic binders that replace conductive heavy metals such as copper and zinc. These organic binders will burn off during the welding process, leaving a corrosion-resistant self-etching primer for paint prep. This product will reduce spatter and distortion caused by excessive heat that occurs during the welding process. Compatible with MIG, TIG and Arc welding. The metal-etching primer will enhance adhesion and durability and is compatible with most top coats.

Eastwood PRE Painting Prep

Application Tips

Clean surface with Eastwood's PRE, prior to applying primer. Apply 2 medium wet coats, allowing 5 minutes flash time between coats. Allow to cure at least 20 minutes prior to welding.

Its like any other spray can of paint when you get through using it for the job turn it upside down an spray for a few seconds to clean out spray nozzle. I do this on all spray cans i use to get all the paint in the can out.

Will this work to get urethane bed liner to adhere to galvanized metal? The bed liner material states to use an etching primer on galvanized metal.

You would want to utilize the standard Self Etching primer- not this weld through variation.

What is the temperature range for the application of this product?

Will withstand heat up to 300 degrees. This is not a high temp primer but a weld through primer.

Yes this can be used with a resistance spot welder as it has conductive agents built into the compound.

Our 2K Ceramic Chassis Black paints which we offer in both Satin and full Gloss sheens would be the most durable options. However, you could also utilize or black wheel paint which is Satin in finish https://www.eastwood.com/ew-satin-black-wheel-paint-12-oz-aerosol.html.
