Safety Information

Always wear eye, face and hand protection when using chemicals and apply in well ventilated area.

Application Tips

  • Eastwood ExoArmour is a two-component formulation with some very unique properties which require special attention and handling during the mixing stage before application. When Part A and Part B are combined, they will initially repel each other as will oil and water. It may require up to 1 full hour of periodic stirring to fully become hydrolyzed. At this point the mixture will have an opaque, yellowish appearance. This is completely normal.
  • The Eastwood ExoArmour must be applied in a very thin film. A cured film thickness of 0.0003" is normal. If higher film thickness is desired, apply in multiple coats.
  • The surface to be coated with Eastwood ExoArmour must be thoroughly cleaned and completely free of any oily deposits, polishes or any type of surface contaminates. Use Eastwood #10041Z PRE, Pre-Painting Prep or a good quality acetone. Failure to do so will diminish the products’ ability to offer full protection.
  • Apply Eastwood Exo-Armour in temperatures above 70°F [21° C] and humidity less than 70%.
  • Eastwood Exo-Armour should be allowed to fully cure for 5 full days before subjecting film to abrasion or rough contact.
  • If Eastwood Exo-Armour must be removed, use chemical strippers or abrasive blasting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Uneventful application, looks great. Application process went smoothly. I applied it to polished aluminum. Looks great! Time will tell if it stays bright and clear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I purchased this to clear coat my intake manifold. I looks great! It may have changed color a shade. once it dries who knows. If it doesn't yellow as Eastwood says... I couldn't be more pleased. I will definitely use this anytime I'm clear coating bare metal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EXO-ARMOUR I had a friend who had used this product before and helped with the mix. We done a aluminum intake and 4-speed trans with no problems. Both look great !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 Stars because it seems to works but directions.. The directions are so confusing. It says to stir every 5 minutes. Then it says to let it sit for 1 hour. Which is it? How long do I have to stir every 5minutes? Do I stir it every 5 minutes for 1 hour, then let it sit for 1 hour? I basically used a shotglass, and a teaspoon to measure everything because it's so small. And the amount I needed for 3 layers on 4 new 18" wheels was only like 6 teaspoons of PART A and 2 teaspoons of PART B. 3:1 mixing ratio. A little goes a long way. You just wipe the liquid on the surface so it isn't streaky, let it sit 20 minutes until tacky, then put another coat on. What I did was, 6 tsp PART A, 2 tsp PART B, mixed for 2 minutes, let it set for a few, mixed again, let it set for a few, mixed again and it eventually became transperent "NOT OPAQUE as the instructions indicate". When you first mix the A/B it becomes opaque or cloudy, mix a few times and let sit until clear (transparent) Pot life is 12 hours? You have a max of 30 minutes to put additional coats on Likes to smear pretty easily on plastic center caps, so those will need more attention We shall see how long this holds up in the winter on these new wheels

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easier to mix/sue than previous reviews suggest. 4 out of 5 stars for the moment. I've just done the job, but haven't seen how it holds up as of yet. If this product does hold up as advertised than it will get a 5-er from me, but we shall see. If Exo-Armour works as advertised I will be EXTREMELY happy. Firstly, I did not find the directions hard to understand. I used an old syringe left over from having to give my cat medicine. It was in the 3ml range. I mixed 3 syringes (9ml) of Part A with one syringe (3ml) of Part B for a total mixture of 12ml. I mixed every 5~10 minutes, more or less as indicated. I had plenty of time for application, I wasn't rushed at all, which is nice for a two part coating. I used a small square of the supplied lint-free applicator. I found that light coats have barely any sheen at all and really do mimic the appearance of bare steel and cast iron. A slightly heavier application, as in a second wipe down, starts to build a sheen which could develop into a gloss with more apps, which may or may not please you. I'm looking for a raw look but with protection and was able to achieve that with a lighter touch. I left my parts be for about three days in a warm but low humidity basement, by which time they were dry/non-tacky to the touch. Not a single problem or question. My amounts were dead on and the mixture was simple, if not time consuming. I ended up mixing two batches for a total of 24ml to use. With that small amount I was able to coat the following: Steering gear box, pitman arm, rag joint halves, intermediate steering shaft, steering shaft to steering column CV cup and clamp, one GM single piston caliper, one disc brake spindle, one steering arm, two 1970 GM brake hold-off valves, one GM brake distribution valve/warning switch, plus various nuts and bolts. That's a LOT for such a small amount of coating. I wonder how this product would effect the look of freshly re-plated cadmium dichromate, such as a brake booster. That will be something I shall test out before jumping in.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from would not recomend if you care how it looks. Used this on our brass elevators. Made the brass look streaky and rainbow looking. We wiped it on like the instructions say you can. I would not recommend this product if you cared about esthetics. Also, it's dry time is pretty bad.
Date published: 2025-01-14
Rated 1 out of 5 by from finish has much to be deisred We used this on out polished brass elevators. left rainbow streaks. It looks truly horrible. I would definitely not suggest applying by wiping as the instructions say. Maybe spraying is the ticket? Instructions have a bit vague. Maybe I would use it to protect something only, definitely not to look nice. Also, it's dry time is pretty horrible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed to mix properly Followed all mixing instructions and the coating never reached the final non-yellow cloudy stage for application. Waited up to 5 hours then disposed product. Do not recommend this Product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete waste of $65. I spent over 100 hours polishing to a mirror finish old motorcycle engine parts for a show bike I am trying to build.  I followed the instructions exactly as written and the results came out very dull and not presentable in my opinion (by the way the instructions are different online than the one you get in the box).   I first mixed it as directions say then used their preferred method of spraying it with a gun and it immediately rolled up into droplets (see pic).  Yes, I did clean the part with acetone and then a wax degreaser from PPG prior.     I wiped it off and tried the wipe method with their applicator, it went on better but still not as nice as I would have liked.  It is a very thin coat so not much is needed and I put 2 coats on it and stopped from there.   You can see the results for yourself in the pics...the 2nd  pic is one that I didn't use the clear coat on and the 3rd pic is once the clear is applied.  You can see just how dull it is.   Frankly I am surprised Eastwood sells this stuff, I usually like all their products but this flat out doesn't work, that's why there is virtually no information on this product online...

Questions & Answers

I would like to preserve the rusted look of a steel fence I just built. I applied an acid to it to create a unique color/finish. I want to stop the rusting process AND keep the color and finish intact. Should I use Exo Armour or Patina Preserver Aerosol?

Asked by: jon f
The Patina Preserver would be the only option we have that would be recommended for this type of scenario.

When I purchased this. I was told by the Eastwood CS that this product would provide UV protection to a carbon fiber hood after I applied 2k clear coat. Is this valid? I haven't started on the project yet. Let me know if I need to buy another item.

Asked by: Barbeerian
Our 2K clear is UV stable already. This does not need to be applied over the top.

Once the two chemicals are mixed, how long will ExoArmour last in a sealed container? Also, whats is the difference between ExoArmour and Sharkhide?

Asked by: Banjoman
Once mixed Exo Amour is useful for up to 24 hours. Exo Amour is a two part catalyzed clear which is going to be far more durable than Sharkhide. It just requires the extra step of mixing prior to applying where Sharkhide is ready out of the can.

I have stripped my car to bare metal and am thinking about using this product to showcase the bare steel. If I change my mind later and decide to apply color, do I need to prime over this or can I just apply base coat color followed by clear?

Asked by: Jamesl
At that point you would be best to scuff up and apply a primer over before applying your paint. Epoxy primer would be a great option for this.

how long is this usable after mixing?

Asked by: Jay1
The Exo Armour has a pot life of 12 hours in warmer conditions (75-110°F, [24-43°C]). In cooler conditions (45-75°F, [7-24°C]) Eastwood Exo-Armour will be useful up to 24 hours. Refrigerating mixed Eastwood Exo-Armour in a tightly sealed, glass container may extend pot life for up to one week. If mixture was refrigerated, allow it to return to room temperature before using.
