Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed in factory Gray paint The exhaust manifolds were lightly sanded and pre was used to wipe them down. This was done with the headers on the car.The factory Gray paint covered well with 2 light coated. I allowed them to dry 24 hr and started my car. All seemed well untill the next day when I noticed the paint had flaked off on 60 percent of the headers. I was quite disappointed

What is required for prepping the surface of bare stainless steel motorcycle headers before spraying this?

Is there an alternative cure cycle for this product that can be performed off engine? What temperature and for how long?

Kelly H / using the engine, even idling, is "forced curing"... There are a few negatives to using the engine to cure the paint; the fumes are toxic, they are created because it's getting too hot. This makes coating not adhere well which makes it not last. If the paint isn't cured, when installing the manifold to the engine, the mounting hardware, fingers with grease, wrenches or sockets will scratch or remove the coating. So I marked your response as unhelpful. I always put a heat gun in one end of the manifold and turn it on. While it's warming up I start brushing the coating on. After a few applications I keep the heat going until it it's cured to the touch. While painting, it's a good idea to take the heat gun out a few times, because you don't want the metal too hot. If you get the manifold too hot the coating wont stick well. Next day I install the part. Applying the paint this way all but alleviates the toxic fumes, but it's always best to be outside or have the shop door open and a fan going while performing this. I would say a dedicated paint or powder oven would be just the ticket for consistent application. I have done this numerous times and have never had an issue. When cars come back in for service or at a show, I check my work. This coating is pretty good especially compared to ceramic coating $$. I own a shop where we restore old British sports cars, 30 years and counting.

Will the fumes created during the cure cycle damage the Oxygen Sensor?

Hi,, no, this would be externally coated, and the 0.2 sensor is on the inside of the pipe or exhaust manifold

Will this paint dry to the touch before curing?

Yes, this product will dry to the touch without being fully heat cured. However, will be in a vulnerable state where it can scratch and chip easily.

Based on previous questions asked, it looks like this paint needs to be heat cycled on a running engine. Can it be cured in a powder coating oven? What is the temperature required to harden this paint? Thx

We do not recommend force curing this hi-temp coating in an oven because of the fumes this puts off.

Once the manifold is sprayed, does it need to be ran in the vehicle to fully cure within a certain time frame? For example, I am building an engine that wont be run for 1 or 2 yrs. Can I spray this on now, then wait that long?

Yes. It will just not fully cure until the vehicle is ran and idled; so it will be pliable during this time frame.
