One of the easiest ways to make a paint job more affordable is to do the prep work yourself. Many body shops are happy to work with DIYers this way. It saves them hours of tedious sanding, filling, and masking time and lets them focus on laying down the paint. In fact, the prep is often more expensive than the paint itself.
Of course, any paint job is only as good as the work that’s gone into preparing the car for it. And this is where many do-it-yourselfers get impatient or lack the knowledge to do prep right. We recently painted a car for a local shop this way, laying down paint on their at-home body prep. The finished results were acceptable, but could have been better with a little more work.
In this video, Adam walks through some of the common mistakes most amateurs make when prepping for paint. These range from inadequate sanding to unfinished bodywork. See firsthand how you can prevent these same mistakes. Your painter will thank you and you’ll have a much better project to show when it’s done.
Andrew, this is the booth in the video. Much better than the inexpensive ones on Amazon with much better materials, but importantly, some very thoughtful safety features. https://www.eastwood.com/24-x-15-mobile-paint-booth-mes24x15x10hdlt.html
Great video, what are the specific details on that portable spray booth? As is everything with Eastwood, it surely must be better than the junk I’ve seen on Amazon. Definitely need something like that for my Barn/Workshop!
Thanks for all that y’all do for this hoby!
