We ventured out to central PA this past weekend to check out Carlisle All Truck Nationals, or Truck Nats for short. Coming from the Minitrucker side of things, in Pennsylvania this is about as good as the shows get close to home, and this year didn’t disappoint. With literally thousands of vehicles from lifted, to lowered, big rigs, and vans there’s something to pique all interests.
Besides seeing every version of your favorite hot rod sporting a bed (or in some cases not) the Carlisle Fairgrounds are also graced with some really next-level builds. It’s the perfect chance to see what the pros are doing to push the limits and show off their fabrication skills.
It’s the attention to detail – like the painted stripes on this ’73-’80 square body and “Custom Deluxe” emblems that really stand out. Not to mention a few builds that have graced a Truckin’ magazine cover or two. This is like Minitruckin’ royalty.
But that ingenuity isn’t limited to just pickups and SUVs. You can also catch more than a few custom Radio fFyer wagons perusing the swap meet carrying the finds of the day. This might actually be the best part of the weekend if you’re looking for your next project. With hundreds of vendors set up from all over the country, there’s enough parts to build an entire vehicle with what’s available up and down Vendor Row. Literally everything: Engines? Sure. Cabs? Of course. Well, what about the bed? Yes.
Like I Said, everything.
The Carlisle staff also makes sure there’s activities happening throughout the day to keep everyone entertained. Dyno pulls, freestyle motocross, and monster truck rides keep the grandstands packed at all hours.
Finally, maybe the best reason: it’s a great place to catch up with long time friends over your favorite beverage(s) of choice. And don’t worry if you came alone, they’ll be happy to pull up a chair and be your new friend anyway.
