In the latest installment of Mark’s Trans Am project, he addresses the rotted-out tail panel. Before installing an aftermarket replacement, he starts by cutting out the original part and treating additional rust in the surrounding areas. Watch as he fabricates new bumper mount panels from scratch.
This update was a big one, with Mark pulling out all the big tools: a rotary removal tool with wire wheel for stripping seam sealer, plasma cutter and spot weld cutters to remove the old panel, a spot blaster to hit the surface rust, a bead roller and panel bag to fabricate repair panels, and a MIG welder to put it all together. As always, it’s fascinating to watch how meticulous and thorough Mark is when he works.
