One of the age-old challenges for DIY car enthusiasts is performing proper brake bleeding without a helping hand. Whether you’re building a chassis from the ground up or you replaced some old calipers, the air must come out. Finding a competent friend that can do the old “Pump. Pump. HOLD!” routine requires planning. And don’t even try to enlist family members for this two-step dance – they inevitably never get the rhythm quite right.
An alternative to other methods is a set of brake bleeding wrenches. These aren’t the conventional line wrenches you typically use to open and close the bleeder valve during the process. Instead, these feature a fitted socket that covers the bleeder entirely, forming an airtight seal. On the opposite side is a “slave bleeder,” a second nipple that’s secured onto the wrench handle so it can’t slip off.

By itself, the wrench allows for easy, mess-free caliper bleeding and could be used for any traditional bleeding process. But for single-handed bleeding, the wrench set also includes a silicone hose with a built-in check valve to prevent backflow. This keeps air from traveling back into your caliper and spoiling your work. Simply keep the master cylinder filled and you can gravity-bleed the lines by yourself.
This set comes with 3 wrenches that accommodate most passenger vehicle brake and clutch bleeders. They are sized at 8mm, 10mm, and 14mm, but also work on 5/16”, 3/8”, and 7/16” bleeders, respectively. The set makes a nice addition to your other brake tools, giving you another option when you find yourself in the garage with no helper in sight.
