Rated 5 out of 5 by from 52 year old tank Impossible to find 1970 Buick Wildcat Convertible gas tank so went with the Eastwood kit. I followed the instructions to the letter including the added step of a less diluted acid wash and was thoroughly impressed with the results. Due to the tank design, I did have to drill a drain hole but that was easily repaired with JB Weld. Overall the coating provided a clean smooth surface which should provide protection for another 50 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1953 John Deere 24 gallon steel gas tank repaired My dads 53 John’s Deere Model 70 steel 24 gallon gas tank was heavily rusted, no pin holes. I had the tank boiled out twice by radiator shop. I then used diluted Muratic acid to further remove residual rust. I followed the tank sealer directions closely. The entire tank is now sealed and coated with the white sealer and covered all the rust. The sealer appears to adhered to all the interior tank surface. I have yet to see how long it will last. If it pulls loose or peels up I will be in real trouble. I considered using POR15 but for some reason chose this product and am satisfied so far. I practiced on 2 metal old farm five gallon gas vans that had rust and pin holes in the bottoms with good results, no leaks and are now useable. POR15 also had great reviews and would consider using either product from Eastwood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy gas tank restoration Got this because the motorcycle kit was sold out. Figured the extra bottle might come in handy. Cleaned and sealed a Yamaha xs650 tank. Very pleased with the results and ease of use. I work at a auto restoration shop, and the owner has a collection that we work on along with customer cars. I will be using this kit here in the future. We have a1929 Packard that needs gas tank work, and this kit will be just what we need this winter. I really can't complain about anything with this kit and highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gas tank cleaner and sealing kit Great kit for cleaning a filthy, sludge, rusty motorcycle fuel tank that had sit for 25 years with some fuel. Cleaned and coated and sealed inside. I purchased the kit for a car just in case but could have gotten by with motorcycle kit

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tank sealer It is very thick and takes a very long time to move the sealer on to all the surfaces of the inside of the tank.

I recently swaped to E85, on a tank that i had repaired a few years ago with this kit, and now the sealer is showing up in large pieces in my fuel filter. Can this product handle E85?

Asked by: Doug
When a tank is properly applied and fully sealed our Gas tank sealer product can handle up to an 85% Ethanol concentration. That being said we have seen failures occur due to Higher levels of Ethanol actually being at the pump, and in applications where there was an un coated spot of the tank and the E85 was able to get behind the Sealer product. IF interested in reapplying the sealer, the existing sealer would need to be removed first by following the below steps; then replacement sealer can be used to re seal. Use regular acetone or MEK (Methyl Ethyl Keytone) and fill tank ½ way with either chemical. Keep lid on, agitate and shake periodically. Leave in tank for 24 hours. The more it is agitated, the more success you will have. Don’t let it sit. Remove lid and inspect tank. Pour the acetone or MEK into a reusable container. CAUTION – Acetone or MEK will harm the paint on the tank. You can use Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline on the outside of the tank to protect paint. Acetone or MEK will dissolve liner back into a liquid form. If liner is still adhering to the tank, pour acetone or MEK back into the tank and re-seal and repeat process until it is completely removed. This can take 3-4 days.

I have a gas tank I just had powder coated and I didn't know it was sealed now there is just a yellow powder like substance. What do I need to do to reseal my tank?

Asked by: Want to reseal tank
If there was an existing coating that had been baked we recommend stripping with MEK or another stripper and then completing the Gas Tank Sealer Kit step by step.

Can you reapply the Eastwood Gas Tank Sealer after 2 months of use once the tank has dried out without removing the 2 month old Eastman sealer? Thank Sealed for about 2 months then leak returned again. Have about a 3rd of the sealer left in the bottle.

Asked by: GJ101
To remove our Gas tank sealer and re apply please follow the below: This a solvent base of MEK (Methyl Ethyl Keytone). It is not an epoxy. It is a vinyl-sp specially formulated elastomer. This can take 3-4 days.

can you let the tank dry overnight after washing before applying the sealer without flash rusting?

Asked by: joe64
If you follow the instructions and utilize the Fast Etch then stop there at that point until you are ready to proceed. Then use the Acetone and Muriatic acid as stated and proceed. Fast Etch leaves behind a temporary protective coating to prevent flash rust.
