You can bend many types of metals by heating it up. Use a plumber’s torch to heat up the metal to a point where you can easily bend it. Other at home methods include the sand method, which involves filling the tube with sand, plugging one end and heating the metal with a torch. You can also mix water and soap in a 1:1 ratio, pour the mixture in your tube, cap both ends, freeze it, build a form, remove frozen tube and bend it over your form.
Q: How do you straighten bent steel?
A: To straighten bent steel, you will likely need to apply heat. Just make sure it is not too much heat that will damage the metal. There are various methods for straightening bent steel including heat straightening, which involves applying controlled heat to a deformed part of steel in heating and cooling cycles until the metal gradually straightens.
Another method is hot mechanical straightening, which straightens the metal beyond the yield stress. Hot working is another method where the metal glows red hot, but it is very unpredictable. Screw presses, fastening devices and tube straightening are other more reliable methods that can be used to straighten bent steel.
