Application Tips

PRE Painting Prep removes grease, oil, wax, and polish. PRE Painting Prep is a blend of solvents that may attack plastic, so test first. One can treats 10 sq ft. On waxed areas, or surfaces that may have silicones, more than one cleaning may be necessary. Works better than lacquer thinner, which can leave a film behind that can compromise paint adhesion. Use to prep for all Eastwood paints, including our exhaust manifold paints. Use in a well ventilated area, or wear a respirator .

How soon can paint be applied after cleaning with Pre Paint Prep? This question was asked previously, but the answer did not answer the question. Basically, can you paint on it immediately or should I wait a period of time, say minutes , an hour.....?

Since this is a solvent-based product there are a few factors but it normally gasses off after a few minutes.

wanting to know if this product can be used in COLD temps, below freezing to sub-zero, to clean hidden salt out of frame cavity (instead of using water to rinse out powder salt) I also have half completed EW IFC inside, will it have a bad reaction?

We would recommend Eastwood's Road Salt Neutralizer(51507ZP) to clean and remove salt from the frame of your vehicle. This product will not harm your painted or finishes surfaces. Go to www.eastwood.com and type in 51507ZP on the search bar and you can read the specifications.

Can I use this prep on an existing acrylic urethane fully-cured clear coat prior to applying another couple coats of acrylic urethane clear? I guess what I really need to know is can I use this product on all fully cured paint systems? not just bare metal

Apply to the cloth you are wiping down and give the paint a light wipe down. As long as the finish is a cured 2K finish, it will be fine to give a quick wipe down.

Is this what should be used before coating plastic trim pieces with Eastwood Black Resurfacer?

You can use a standard dish soap and water. I would not recommend using a solvent based product such as this cleaner on plastics.

I'm stripping chassis to metal removing rust. I purchased the Pre and Epoxy primer from Eastwood, but wondering if I should do something else to the surface for rust leftover in small areas/corners. Can the primer be used over Picklex 20?

The fast etch would be a great product to use in the areas where the rust is left over. Unfortunately we do not test our products with other brands and can't guarantee compatibly with picklex 20.

Low VOC Pre can be used for cleaning bare metal, before priming. It is also great for cleaning metal prior to welding, and powder coating. This product is to aggressive to apply on top of paint. To wipe down your car between primer, and base coat you would use our regular Pre. Item number 10041z

This product is safe for cleaning the metal before welding, Some products can give off harmful fumes. Also Great for cleaning your part before you powder coat.

Hello,  I would like to clear my old tail gate of F100 1964 and keep the original patina, is the 10041Z pre painting prep and the 14792Z matte Clear will be the best? Is this Satin clear will stay beautiful several years??

The 2K clear you are referring to #14792z can not be applied to our surface. You would want to clean and de-grease with the PRE, then apply the Patina Preserver: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-patina-preserver-aerosol.html
