Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product !!! I bought this 20 gauge sheet metal from Eastwood on sale so the price was a little bit better. I used the sheet metal today and it is a very good aluminized steel. It was easy to cut and shape for the patch work that I was doing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Patch Panel kit 20 ga Aluminized Steel Not bad, but fairly scratched up and the big panel has a bit of a ding. Makes me think twice about ordering again. I ordered the same kit 5 years ago snd it was fine. I personally wouldn’t have let this go out the door if it were my company. Shopping box was fine, so I know it was sent out in tough shape.

Can oxy-acetylene or stick be used to weld the panels?

Asked by: BigE
While it is technically possible to a highly trained welder we generally recommend MIG or TIG welding thin sheet metal as we have in this kit.

Maybe a dumb question, but how/why do you use the backing strips? I have seen copper used, but am thinking that these will end up welded to the patch. Thanks, Russ

Asked by: Russ
The copper backing strips are to help prevent burn through when welding at a seam.

Does the coating on this mean that I don't need to seal the back of the repair? Also, can this be adhered with panel bonder instead of MIG welder?

Asked by: RJam
This coating is just to prevent rusting until you use the metal. It could certainly be adhered with a panel bonding agent instead of MIG welding.

How does aluminized steel differ from regular steel? Is it a special alloy? Laminate? Coating?

Asked by: Brian C
It is a coating on the steel to prevent corrosion.
