Description

Eastwood Pneumatic Perfect Panel Welding Prep Tool Features:

  • Each strike forms a perfect 0.062” x 45° beveled flange
  • Works great on 20 to 18 gauge
  • Proper weld-prepped edges allow strong, flush, crack-free welds in sheet metal
  • The convenient hole punch feature provides clean, burr-free 0.19” holes
  • 1-year warranty

Say goodbye to gaps, warpage and blow-through when welding along metal joints by getting them ready with the Eastwood Pneumatic Perfect Panel Prep Tool®. Our patent-pending design creates the perfect welding edge — a 0.062-inch, 45-degree beveled flange. Go down both sides of the edge to properly form them so you can do a full penetration MIG or TIG spot weld. Speaking of which, this air tool also has a hole punch mechanism to create the burr-free holes needed for good butt welding. Less grinding and leveling will be needed post-weld, making the entire piece stronger.

A welding edge prep tool helps you get a flush fabrication on patch panels and fender replacement. It works best on the 18 or 20 gauge sheet metal commonly used for automotive panels. Professionals get just as much from this tool as beginners do because it simply works. Watch our short demonstration video above to see the entire panel welding process or visit the Eastwood Garage online. We’ve been helping the DIY restoration and custom car community since 1978.

Eastwood Pneumatic Perfect Panel Prep Tool 18 20 Gauge Sheet Metal TIG MIG Butt Welds Creates Clean Holes

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood Panel Prep tool Great idea for doing butt welds on panels. You do need to be careful cutting your patch panels, bending the edge of both panels effectively makes then smaller. It's not bu much, but if you cut your panels a little short of "just right" and then flange them, you may have a problem. The hole punch is a nice feature for doing plug welds, it faster than drilling holes and saves on buying so many drill bits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Works as described I have the hand one but the air operated one saves a lot of time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs hydraulic fluid then works awesome! People saying it did not work need to read the directions. There is a set screw near the head. Take it out and fill with fluid. I have both the edge one and the flange one and I could not imagine not having them now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick crimp for patch panels This thing made quick work of a big job. I replaced rocker panels and floors and cab corners on my Chevy Truck. Would have taken longer with vise grips. Made welding the joints easier and neater, and a overall better fit and finish to the whole job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great!!! I've only had it for two days but I've used it quite a bit. So far it's worked flawlessly. I love it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't play around, you gotta get one. I started out with the manual one because Eastwood was out of stock, while it works OK, it is nowhere near the tool that the pneumatic unit is. I easily paid for it on this first job of wheelwell arches and lowers. saved me hours of grinding and I honestly think I got less panel warpage. This thing ROCKS!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes a smaller than expected crimp I have used this for a small patch panel repair in 16 ga. sheet metal. The amount of crimping seemed rather smaller than expected, however the TIG weld went very well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I've had 2 of these, and they just don't work! First one lasted about 1 time. Then, it just wouldn't close with any pressure at all, and left about a 1/8" gap. No full closure at ALL. Sent it back. Second one SAME THING!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the money Broke after 2-3 times using it.(small patch panels) more made over seas garbage

Rated 1 out of 5 by from These are GARBAGE!!! This worked for 3 inches and then stopped working.I bought one of these for the V groove and one of the Rockland units for a flange. That one lasted 10 feet and it is dead as well. I was hoping to put the window flanges back in my 65' Chevelle 2 door wagon this weekend but without lipping one way or another I can't continue. Guess it is good old hand tools. I would pay good money for a tool that works if I could find one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t but it! Failed right out of the box! It made a slight little crimped edge for the first 2-1/2 inches then nothing! Oil leaking from the body of it. Very poor quality! I bought the extended warranty for it but I think I’m going to return it and get my money back after seeing how many people have had problems too. $70 is too much for a tool like this that is unreliable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked once to test it. I tested it right out of the box and did ok. Went to use it on my project and it couldnt even take one bend on the same metal. All it does is dump air. I feel it wasn't worth my money or time. Butt welds work just as well. This is a good idea (and tool) if the confounded tool worked more than once out of the box. Second tool I've ordered from Eastwood and one worked one didnt. So far I feel harbor freight is the better source as they dix it when its wrong. Eastwood hasn't.

Questions & Answers

I took it out of the box to use for the first time since Christmas. I squeeze the trigger and the jaws do nothing. Could it be low on hydraulic fluid?, the outside was cover in oil. If so what kind of fluid should I use?

Asked by: Flightmedic911
Yes, it certainly could e low on oil. This tool should be filled with air tool oil.
