Customer Service the Way it is Intended
In times where customer services is rare or non-existent , I was so pleased to work with personnel who IMO went the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of and provided communications that came from a live person, not some automated response.

Questions & Answers
Pretty costly moisture filter, how often does this need to be replaced? If this creates moisture as rapidly as a piston compressor, this could get quite costly @ $70 bucks apiece.
Using this compressor at its rated duty cyle of 100% for even a few hours in a day (like a DA sander will demand) and you'll want to drain the air tank manually after use even with the automated tank drain Eastwood sells. There's a new excess water drain kit now but your bound to go through more oil using this so don't forget to order extra oil and check after draining the excess water from the oil tank and at $20 a quart for the oil the addition of an additional water/moisture drain bottle you'll use more oil draining the water from the bottom of the oil tank drain petcock as well. One might ask why is there water in the oil though? Hope that helps.

Is there a good way to tell when the moisture filter needs replacement?
There is no "good" way but after 3+ years and at least 1 complete compressor replacement and several start/run cap, controller and pressure switch replacements, thanks to Eastwood for not charging for any so far, I can tell you the line to the pressure switch will fill with a water/oil mix and leave a puddle on the floor. I use the compressor primarily for fab, painting and about every air tool you can think of and if I use it for more than a few hours at it's rated duty cycle of 100% (like a DA sander will drive it) I drain the tank manually and check the moisture seperator and pressure switch line, replacing the moisture separator if it's full of water and saturated. Note that now Eastwood sells a separate "excess" water bottle that has you draining the water from the bottom of the oil tank after it sits overnight. Of course you go through more oil with this solution and can't run the unit with the cover on unless you drill a 1/2"" hole in the cover to route the drain line to the bottle which the doc's for the new kit don't describe or indicate. IMHO there are many manufacturing issues I've reported to support and documented in feedback via my reviews on the product page, mostly bad crimping and a terminal block that requires red locktite to secure to the case so it won't loosen up and excessive heat but if you address these, keep the moisture separator changed, run with no cover on and a fan blowing air on the unit it'll do the job for less than a quality built unit will. Hope that helps.

The manual specifies to do a filter andoil change after the first year, and water separator after 3 years. Is this not correct?
IN most scenarios yes, this is correct. However there are multiple factors that can vary and this may need to be done more or less based upon circumstances.
