Instructions

Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" above surface as you spray. A single coat dries to the touch in 20 minutes, and is thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68°F. For greater durability, a second coat can be applied 1 hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after the last coat before applying topcoat. Use over or under body fillers.

Safety Information

always wear eye, skin and respirtaory protection. Apply in a well ventilated area away from open flame.

Want 3 Times More Rust Protection?

In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our Internal Frame Coating or Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 71 Plymouth Scamp Interior Roof Yesterday, I used the quart and aerosol can on the roof of my Scamp. They both cover the same amount of square ft, with about 25% left in both cans. Used the aerosol spray for the hard to reach areas between the roof and the roof support for my first coat. For the second coat, I used the quart can on my flat surface and aerosol in the hard to reach areas again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good so far... I'll reserve the last star for a long term review. Good so far though. Applied evenly and smoothly, unlike some of the reviews. I've only used one can so far, so hopefully this continues. Will be looking for any rust re-appearance or uneven spraying for the next can(s). A bunch more work to go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SFSG Can you figure out what sfsg refers to? ;-) I've only recently used this product so I cant comment on how well it works. I will TRY to remember to come back here after a year to comment on how well the product is performing. The product was easily applied, remember to shake the can often it makes a big difference. I did have a little trouble spraying my roof vents which required the can to be pointed downward and without shaking regularly it quit spraying paint and only sprayed air but shaking the can regularly solved that. Delivery was supersonic, I think I got it the day after I ordered. For now I'll give a 4 star rating because I dont know how well it works yet, I'll be back in Feb 2016 to update (yea thats gonna happen) ;-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glad such a product exists! The sidellight windows on the front door of my office turned out to be steel covering foam core. Over 12 years, salt water rusted & bubbled the bottoms, especially where the moisture was held in the contact points with side wood & ground. Used a drill bit and metal brush to remove most of the rust. Sprayed 2 coates of the encapsulator and painted over all. Still got some bleed through so repeated the process with 2 more coats. This seemed to hold. Having brass kickplates installed on the exterior bottoms and siliconed around the edges to prevent or retard further damage. The encapsulator seemed very good..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product Covers well, dries quick, easy to paint over.
Date published: 2013-12-28
Rated 3 out of 5 by from works as advertised, but low chemical resistance. Quality can of paint, sprays well, easy to control, bonds really well to rust. Disappointing that it comes off with mineral spirits. I thought it would be a bullet proof moisture cure paint, that would have high chemical resistance. For sure needs top coated if you're searching for that element.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from spatter in finish I have used the black rust encapsulator for years with no problems, but tried my first can of gray with mediocre results. Shook can for several minutes, but paint comes out uneven with more than the occasional "booger". Coverage and color are good as I expected. I figured I was going to have to sand the finish anyway since it will be a while before I get around to a topcoat, but this is just an added hassle having to smooth out the finish. Hopefully the other cans I bought don't have the same problem.

2003 F150, around the sun roof has rust (the truck is green in color) can I use this product and then paint over the gray with a green lacquer or arcrylic?

Asked by: Jimmy K
Please keep in mind, we only test with paints and coatings that we sell. We would have to advise you to test a small area before applying to the whole surface. Allow it to fully cure for 24 hours, abrade with a scuff pad- then apply your top coat.

I seen where its ok to use epoxy over the encapsulater and wait at least 24 hours before spraying epoxy but how long is the maximum you have before needing to scuff the encapsulator?

Asked by: Rich C
You have approximately a maximum of 36 hours before the Encapsulator would need to be scuffed.

I live near the coast of Maine. I have rust spots (not entire door) on the door and door seam of my Honda Element. Once rust is removed with wire brush, would this be a good product to use for those areas or is there a more appropriate solution?

Asked by: Arden
Our Encapsulator is a great product to slow and stop rust from growing. Just make sure it is surface rust and not coming from a seam where the door edge was folded over. If it would be coming from internal not much will stop the rust for long.

can I use this under all my autobody paints stages, prior to primer/ bc/ cc ?

Asked by: sammy
Since this is a non catalyzed paint we recommend only using it sparingly where you must. For the exterior of the vehicle we always recommend trying to remove 100% of the rust either mechanically or chemically to ensure you can use catalyzed paints and body fillers throughout your paint process.

Can I use PQR15 Cleaner/Degreaser first before applying Rust Encapsulator? Are these products compatible. If yes, after applying Degreaser, do I then apply Encapsulator directly or some additional prep needed?  Does Encapsulator come in any blue colors?

Asked by: stevecamino
While the Por 15 degreaser would work our Pre is a better bet to ensure a clean surface for the Encapsulator to adhere to. The Encapsulator will not come in a Blue color.

I have a 57 Chevy with the original factory rust proofing sprayed in the wheel tubs and bottom of the car. Needless to say this is extremely hard to remove and is unsightly, can this be used to cover the old rust proofing or is there a better option?

Asked by: Tom Son
I took a propane torch and heated to remove this on my 56. I've heard restore guys do this also. Even with a media blaster it won't come off otherwise. But I would not spray anything over it as it would have to be extremely clean in order to bond with any other material.

I have a Eastwood SCT and I am planing to remove as much rust with it as possible then encapsulate in case I did not remove everything then paint on top of it.  Is this good idea or should I use the SCT then use primer instead of encapsulating?

Asked by: Kedeiv
It would always be strongly recommended to remove as much rust as possible before applying the Encapsulator. The SCT would certainly be an excellent too,l to use for this instance.

I have a satellite dish. It has surface rust. Can it be used on this item? Also, at what temperature can it be applied and how long does it take to cure?

Asked by: J Scott
You can use it on any rusted surface with no issues. It should be applied as close to 70 degrees as possible. It will take only a few hours to fully dry at 70 degrees.

I want to spray for rust in the front door posts of a 1964 GMC after I peel the roof. Will the 360 degree extension fit other cans of rust preventers?

Asked by: Bud C
You would want to use the internal frame coating not the encpasulator. The encapsulator requires prep.

Can I use this as my primer for my whole truck? I believe i already got all the rust off, but am using this just in case. I have sanded the truck already with 80 grit and it is down to the factory basecoat with some spots sanded to primer and bare metal.

Asked by: Cody99999
Technically yes, but no. If you are that far along I would recommend using an epoxy over the entire vehicle.

Is the color of this gray when applied? Does it retain the gray color after drying? I have six rusted vents on roof, my shingles are gray so if this is also gray it would save me from buying gray spray paint also.

Asked by: Not very handy
It does dry to a gray finish, so it should be close to the color you need.
