FAQs

Q: Can Rust Encapsulator be applied with the Undercoating System?

A: Technically, yes, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds and through rust to seal surfaces from contact with moisture and air, but cannot be painted over, so it's only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Want 3 Times More Rust Protection?

Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Platinum

In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our Internal Frame Coating or Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Transformation This product worked great. I had a old horse trailer that was full of rust. I was able to sand the outsides and then apply this product. Total transformed the look of the trailer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like this stuff. Have used the black version in the past, out of a can. I was very happy with the results especially since it was outside with no topcoat. However, shelf life was not infinite. Hated to waste this pricy stuff. So, I bought a spray can of the white.. Hopefully this will solve the shelf life issue. I used it on a white trailer. Went on great, sanded well for topcoat. Saved a lot of coats of primer and white paint to be able to paint white over it!

Questions & Answers

Can I use this, how well will this product work on interior floor of vehicle? Couple rust repaired areas that are bare metal along with majority of the floor that still has original manufacture paint. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Asked by: Wood442
Yes, this paint would be a great option for this application. First take a wire brush or disc and knock off as much loose or scaling rust as you can. Then scuff up any existing finish with 320-400 grit paper and clean with our PRE painting prep. You can then apply this coating and it will suffocate any rust that it contacts and stop it from spreading as well as create a protective barrier to prevent further issues.

Hi, can a light coat of body filler be applied over the white 15 Oz Aerosol Eastwood Rust Encapsulator? (There is some pitting) Then a light sanding, prime and top coat with a oil based enamel finish. This will all be done on a INDOOR sheet metal cabinet.

Asked by: Tom1966
You should have no issues top coating the encapsulator with filler. Just let fully cure and then scuff lightly for adhesion.

Wanting to paint chassis of a Formula Ford White.... What would the recommendations for this project? Can the rust incapulator be painted over with a clear or satin top coat... Is there a better method....? Thank you, Terry

Asked by: Warsawwizard
The Rust Encapsulator can certainly be painted over. For a really nice finish epoxy primer can be applied directly over the rust encapsulator, then the satin topcoat. The satin topcoat and the clear can go directly over the rust encapsulator as well.

I need to address the exterior body rust on my 92 Dodge 1st Gen until Ifinances allow me to put a proper paint job on it. Could I put a coat of the Platinum Rust Encapsulator and a second coat of the White Rust Encapsulator? The orginal color is white.

Asked by: KTee
The coat of Platinum would be more than sufficient to do the job but if you need a white finish, yes this White Rust Encapsulator can be applied over top of the Platinum.

Can this be used on a brand new truck on the rocker panels. Looking for a white undercoating that’s safe for painted surfaces. The way the rocker panels are formed on the bottom I’m afraid black will look like a big strip down the bottom.

Asked by: Dirtybiker24
As long as the existing paint is scuffed you can can certainly use this on new paint. Just keep in mind though this product doesn't have texture and will not stop rust when applied over existing paint.
