Eastwood Throatless Shear is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unable to perform When my shear arived, I first had to partially disasemble and reassemble it because of several loose parts. Once I had fixed it, I noticed one of the screws that adjusts the blade was broken and stuck in place. This must have happened while it was being initially assembled, because the paint had been applied over the broken screw, making it even more stuck. This prevented me from being able to adjust the blade. When I tried to cut a sample piece of 18 gauge mild steel sheet, the blade warped after cutting only a half inch into the sheet and was totally ruined. I immediately returned the shear and won't be buying from Eastwood again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good tool for the price I cannot complain about the price or the quick delivery. But the buyer needs to be aware that when it comes out of the box it may need to be adjusted before it is totally operational, as was mine. However, the instruction book is pretty clear as to how to do it, and once done it works fine for light to medium work. You are not buying a $600+ Beverly Shear and if you are going to be working at the outer limits of this shear's capability you might consider an alternative. But for $159.00 it is a great tool for the individual "do it yourselfer".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous For The Price!!! Please keep in mind this is not a $800+ Beverly shear - for the price, it is well made and I'm very pleased with my shear which I purchased a year ago now. I find I can make very accurate cuts, trimming off slivers of metal without smushing or creasing even the thin gauges. I work mainly in copper, brass and some steel sheet. I had no problem with assembly at all.

Will this handle .125" aluminum? I see it will handle 14 gauge (.0747 steel), so almost twice that in aluminum is doable or no?

Will this cut soft steel wire that is about .48 mm thick in multiples without wrapping on the blade? Wire the thickness of a needle for sewing but softer? Cut several of those at one time?

Asked by: HandGman
Although we have never tested with wire so small I would say since this is about 27 gauge you should be perfectly fine to slice.
