This is not your typical metal cutter. Our rugged, cast iron throatless shear allows you to make straight, intricately curved and irregular cuts in metal with ease and accuracy.
Throatless hand shear design amplifies leverage with rack and pinion gearing and an extended handle, so you’ll easily slice through 14-ga. mild steel, 14-ga. aluminum and 18-ga. stainless. Tool steel blades (adjustable for wear) provide burr-free cuts. Metal cutter’s base has three holes for mounting this throatless hand shear on your workbench or our 13162 Tool Stand.
Thoroughly read and understand this manual before using.
This tool has EXTREMELY SHARP cutting blades with amplified leverage on the upper blade which can quickly cause severe injury or loss of fingers! Keep fingers and hands away from moving parts when operating.

Throatless shearAbsolutely satisfied. Works great. It must be made in the US. Buy it, you'll like it. I did damage the top shear blade while adjusting it, my bad.

I see that it is rated for 14 gauge mild steel, would it be able to cut 14 gauge steel purlins?
Asked by: Cajun blacksmith
CEE Purlins and ZEE Purlins are usually cut on floor mounted shearing machines. The Eastwood Throat less Shear will gut 14 gauge sheet metal without issue but it is not designed to cut the sharp 90 degree bends on the metal purlins.

Will this shear cut aluminum? If so, how thick?
Asked by: Banshee880
Yes the Eastwood Throatless Metal Shear(11797) is rated to cut Aluminum as thick as 14 gauge.

What is the maximum thickness of aluminum sheet metal that this tool can cut? For me specifically, is it capable of cutting 1/8" and 1/4" 3003, 5052, and/or 6061 aluminum without bending the metal after adjusting the blades?
Asked by: Anonymous
We would have to keep the rating the same at 14 gauge with aluminum as 12 gauge would be a substantial difference.

Hi,
Is the 11797 Shear being discontinued? If it is are you going to list replacement blades on ebay? I just ordered one on ebay from you, and would like to get an extra set of blades before they become unavailable.
Asked by: Teds

Replacement blades are available. When ordering use item# 20454.

Will this cut 1/4 and 3/8 inch round mild steel rod?
Asked by: Kyle72
This unit will not slice through solid rod. For solid rod as thick as you are referring to you'll need our Manual Iron worker. https://www.eastwood.com/manual-iron-worker.html
