Duty Cycle

The rated Duty cycle refers to the amount of welding that can be done within an amount of time. The Eastwood TIG 200 Digital has a duty cycle of 25% at 200 Amps. It is easiest to look at your welding time in blocks of 10 Minutes and the Duty Cycle being a percentage of that 10 Minutes. If welding at 200 Amps with a 25% Duty Cycle, within a 10 Minute block of time you can weld for 2 Minutes, 30 Seconds with 7 Minutes, 30 seconds of cooling for the Welder. If the Duty Cycle is exceeded, the Welder will automatically shut off, however the fan will continue running to cool the internal components. When a safe temperature has been reached, the Welder will automatically switch the Welder output back on. To increase the duty cycle you can turn down the Amperage Output control.

Application Tips

Fine Tune Your Welder for Everything

This Inverter technology-based machine features AC TIG welding for aluminum and DC welding for steel or stainless steel. Both modes will join metals up to ¼-inch thick using 220VAC power. You can do pulse TIG welding of stainless steel or aluminum as well using a special setting to reduce warping. The 2T/4T finger control modes are for using the torch to adjust the amperage as you work. AC frequency control lets you fine-tune the cone width of the arc while a spot timer will do small welds for a preset amount of time. If you need to do stick welding on old or rusty metal, simply switch to manual ARC mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm happy This is my first TIG welder so I'm deep into a learning curve. A friend of mine that TIG welds for a living gave the machine a lot of praise. The instructions have been helpful in figuring things out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price for the upgrades This is my first tig and I’m still VERY novice with it, so I’m not sure what make one better than another. But I couldn’t be happier with this welder. Definitely worth the extra money to get the digital functions, rocker foot pedal and flex head torch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood Tig I bought this machine a year ago and have absolutely no problems with the machine! The arch starts great, lots of control features, and works as it should! I am happy with this purchase and feel you would be as well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from plenty of power been doing stainless with this and loving it. lil getting used to a handheld unit vs a pedal but this will run till the wand is hot! and still puts out great arc.. pleased so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Welder, would like to see a cover for it I have owned my 200 Digital AC/DC for a year now and love it! It does everything that is advertised. I have been able to learn and hone some aluminum welding skills because of it. Also, right out of the box I struck up some steel welds that were SO much better than my mig welder that I hardly use that welder any more. A great machine for the price! I would like to see a cover offered for it though. I desire to keep it as dust free as possible and a cover would REALLY be of help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great unit for the price I bought this unit a few weeks ago for something to use at home. I work as a professional welder where we mostly use TIG with a little MIG. I did a lot of research, looking at everything from the top of the line Miller’s all the way down to Harbor Freight specials. I decided on this unit since it had a lot of nice features that our Millers at work have. The Pulse, High Frequency and the ability to switch to AC to weld aluminum are all nice to have. Since I have gotten this I have been impressed with it as a whole. The duty cycle is high enough that I was able to weld some 1/4” stainless steel angle at 130 amps without a problem. The only thing I do not like about it is the leads seam a bit light duty to me; however I am used to my Miller at work and they work fine without any issues. In all for the money this unit was definitely worth it and I’m glad I bought it. I know some people have left reviews saying this is even better than the high end Miller’s or Lincoln’s and that is not the case. You are comparing 2-3 thousand dollar machines to a thousand dollar machine, so if you want an exact replica of a Miller or Lincoln then buy one of those. If you want a quality unit that works very well for almost any welding you would do at home and to save yourself some money then buy this welder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent welder, taught me how to TIG I bought this welder on Black Friday to be able to build a turbo manifold for a couple of my cars. I had never held any type of welder in my life, other than about 10 minutes of MIG. My brother directed me to Eastwood and I pulled the trigger on this TIG200 Digital. To say I love this welder is an understatement. I went from shopping for my first welder in November, to welding a certified chromoly roll cage for a 6.50 drag car in 3 months. I built a manifold that I'm happy with as well. The torch is fantastic, and the flex head is such a great feature. My only beef is with the cheap foot pedal, which quit working after a couple of tanks of Argon. Being an avid electronics expert, it was an easy fix. It's still a 5 star worthy machine. I used this along side my dad's $3,500 Miller and I quite honestly prefer the Eastwood. You can do so much with it, and the welds are great. I've never felt so good about a purchase before. I love this welder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome little machine This machine makes me look like a pro, some people may consider that I am a pro but definetly not. Arc starts are clean, crisp and stable both AC & DC, must say love this little machine, only question now is how long will it last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Okay, I,ve had the welder for a while now. Went through 2, 300 cu ft tanks. The first tank, I discovered I had a leak in the gage so it really didn't count. After switching gages, the welds are beautiful. I built a tank rack for some dive tanks and I'm learning Tig in the process. I just bought half a sheet of stainless, so that will be my next practice. Lots of controls to learn but it is definitely a pro machine, that you can also learn on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality welder Iv had this welder for about a week now still getting use to all the setting. But over all I’m happy with the product. The only downfall is I thought it came with a stinger for stick welding but it did not. Not a big deal but would of been nice. Fast shipping no damages I’m a over all happy customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Welder! I bought this back in October, after taking a welding class to learn how to TIG weld. I've done some pretty heavy welding with it to finish up building my custom motorcycle frame and gas tank. All I can say is this welder was on par with with the Miller Diversion 180 I used in my class, with the added feature of having pulse options, for less than half the price. I still haven't gotten around to trying aluminum or using the stick option yet, but if it performs the same I'll be happy. Extremely satisfied, if you are on the fence about it definitely go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Machine for the Money I am a hobbyist welder with about 3 year experience in both MIG and TIG welding. I purchased this machine to advance my welding capabilities to include Auminum. A Sanitary Pipe Fitter friend of mine, that helped me get started said he was impressed with all of the features this machine offer for the price. The foot pedal was a new experience for me. On my 210MP I always used the left arc feature because I was afraid to use a foot pedal. I tried it on my TIG 200 digital, (because my friend said I really needed to learn how to use it) and I am glad I took his advice. Below is a pic of my first attempt at Aluminum. Once I got the machine dialed in it was real nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome features at a great price Purchased this back in March to replace my miller econo tig. Used it everyday since and it hasn't missed a beat. Love having all the options. Nice foot pedal. Like the 17 flex head torch. Used this on some big aluminum jobs and need to get a watercooled torch from htp America. They make one to fit the Eastwood models which is great. Would love to be able to use the 200hz frequency above 100amps but it's not needed by any means. I use miller dynasty and htp invertig at work at this units arc start ave stability rivals both those machines. How long this unit lasts is the only thing in question but knowing Eastwoods quality and customer service out my mind at ease. Thanks for another great product Eastwood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built, great rig for the money. I am a weekend warrior restoring antique cars, not a pro by any means. I've owned a MIG for years and I've needed to weld aluminum and stainless more and more. TIG is daunting and has a steep learning curve. New to TIG, I had no first hand knowledge to draw on. While the 200 Digital is everything I could need, the book is not useful unless you know the terminology. It's written for an experienced TIG user. Eastwood has fixed this with a few very good Youtube videos not only on welding, but this machine in particular. A request: Include a DVD with the welder AT LEAST to explain the hieroglyphics on the control panel and how to step though the programming procedures. The extra money spent on this model is only worth spending if you take advantage of these features. I had never welded aluminum. I was running some very nice welds in about an hour of practice and after watching a few Youtubes. I consider this money well spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great welder! I bought this machine and its great a lot of good features welds aluminum and steel great. Very pleased with it, great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Solid Machine and a Great Value! I had been researching inverter machines in this size/price class for a long time, and finally chose this machine over the Red, or the Blue brands. I’ve been using it for about a month now, and have used it on Aluminum, steel, and stainless. I’ve been tig welding for about 15 years, and I’m very impressed with this little machine! I’ve only played with the bells and whistles a little, but the AC balance and the frequency control are very useful features. The foot control works smoothly and allows precise adjustment. I like the torch, but only after I put on a gas lens and stubby end cap. No big deal. The flex head and finger control is a bonus, too!
Date published: 2018-06-04
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great welder I bought this welder with the idea that I wanted to learn how to TIG weld. I was previously able to weld with a MIG welder and a stick welder. This product with the support of the dealer makes for an easy to use and to learn welding machine.
Date published: 2018-05-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than what I had expected Very nice machine. Easy setup and use. The preloaded settings are surprisingly right on and provide a good starting point. Adjusting machine is easy. The machine works very well. I even pushed it a bit on some 3/8 aluminum plate. The digital TIG 200 handled it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for your buck I live right down the road I have a small welding shop I have multiple Eastwood welders this was the third Best Buy the pulse function works really well on alluminum I highly recommend this welder if you can afford a miller and such
Date published: 2018-02-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from ALOT of features! I have had this welder less than a month so far and I am still learning how to use it ! Thank God for their youtube videos LOL
Date published: 2017-09-18
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effin awesome!! I have been throwing around the idea of purchasing my own tig machine for years. When a challenging project came up on my 1950 ford I finally got sick of borrowing my buddy's. I did a lot of research and Eastwood was the most bang for your buck. Went home. Hooked up the Argonne and away I went. When welding aluminum this machine is amazing. The only complaint I have is that the regulator sucks. I am going to replace it with a cubic feet flow regulator. All in all I'm very satisfied.
Date published: 2017-03-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's decent Not the easiest to use but is definitely more than capable. I wish Eastwood would make a video solely on the use on THIS machine that isn't 45 minutes long or in the form of a livestream.
Date published: 2021-08-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great machine for the price. Very nice machine. Only issues were the provided gas line would not thread into the regulator and seal. Fortunately I had another. Also, the line cover is sewn and not removable once torch is installed. These should be replaced by a zipping or velcro closure. Finally, the machine is capable of Arc welding but doesn't come with a rod clamp to do so. I had one that worked already and fits this machine.
Date published: 2021-08-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good hobby grade Tig Purchased this machine when I was just learning to weld in my garage as a hobby, now I am using it constantly in my shop. My issues with this machine are as follows. #1 The power line / gas line have a proprietary connector that makes it difficult to find a water cooler setup for the tig torch. This exact problem is making me look for another machine to run in my shop, being just a air cooled torch means I have to stop welding once the torch becomes too hot to continue. #2 The gas / power line is short.... short enough for the machine to be close enough to the work piece and blow away the argon causing me a headache. #3 The machine sometimes requires me to scratch start even though I am on High Frequency, problem occurs on AC & DC. Even with all my problems I would still recommend this machine to someone looking for a hobby machine for home use.
Date published: 2021-07-18
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bunch of settings, probably more than I need. A friend of mine came over that is a certified welder to check out the machine after I set it up. He was impressed. He had used one of the lower models and liked all the extra settings on this machine. The only thing I would like to improve the machine is to have the 110 or 220 volt capability so I could take it to the race track. Also the instruction booklet is a little lacking in explaining the settings and what situation you would use them in.
Date published: 2021-01-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it so far The regulator was broken when I unpacked it but Eastwood sent me a replacement in 2 days. I have used it a couple of times and I wish the setup instructions were more detailed. I am still trying to figure out how to change the different settings. I am an old school TIG welder and its nice to not have to scratch start and i'm sure the pulse helps but I am still getting the hang of using those features.

Questions & Answers

can this be liquid cooled ? professional welders need to weld all day ,not jut a ten minute break.

Asked by: Angryfish
You don’t liquid cool the welder. The torch is what is liquid cooled. So the answer would be yes you can. You just have to get the correct dinse adapter

Can this welder be used with aftermarket torches? Such as the Weldcraft water-cooled torch line? Specifically the W-250, WP-20? If not do any of your other TIG Welders have that capability?

I have a DC Miller Maxstar 200 which I have plugged into a 30amp 250 receptacle twist lock. Which is correct for that machine. Can I use the same receptacle provided I change out the plug on your ac/dc 200amp tig Welder.

Asked by: JAHERR
When I encounter a mismatch of electrical plug/receptacle pairs, I build a short (less than 1' long) adapter. Mate the plug end of the adapter to the 30 mp, 250 twist lock nd the receptacle to the plug on the machine. Avoids warranty issues and provides necessary power. I also build adapters to mate plugs and receptacles for trailer lights and brakes when towing.

The Digital Tig is strictly set up for 240V.use. Hooking up to 110V will harm the interior components of the welder.

Can you weld copper and brass in the same thickness that welds aluminum and stainless steel, say 0.5mm

Asked by: Joe4x4
yes it can. .5mm is only about .020" thick so it will require quick movement and good amperage control
