Questions & Answers

So technically, I can grind a panel to bare metal, bondo imperfections, 120# the whole panel (or vehicle), apply this, dry sand with 400# and go right to base/clear? ("Technically"! Not saying I wouldn't use a sealer.)

Asked by: rick
Technically Yes!! This is a Direct to metal(DTM) product so it can be applied to bare metal and will fill 36 grit grinder marks in 2-3 coats. Then 400# sand and paint.

Besides the prices, what exactly is the difference between this and Contour? Featherfill?

Asked by: rick
All three Polyester Primer Surfacers you mention perform exceptionally well. They all have similar properties and are great at filling (high build), fast drying to sand times and are easy sanding. Other than cost, personal preference and past experience is usually the deciding factor.

I sprayed Eliminator , it has done a good job. I noticed a small place that Bondo brand glazing & spot putty that I have on hand would take of it, if I can use it ? Over polyester primer. Also can epoxy primer to sprayed over the glazing/spot putty?

Asked by: Johns 29A
You can apply body filler over this if you abrade the surface before applying the filler. From there you can apply epoxy primer if you so choose.

Can you spray enamel over this without adverse reactions?

Asked by: Rugerp904579
You shouldn't have any issues applying enamel over this product. An option should you sand through anywhere would be to apply a sealer primer over this and then apply your enamel (reduce our epoxy 20% to create a sealer).

is this primer all that is needed to prime bare aluminum?

Asked by: jfarrar23
This primer is meant to be a high build primer to block sand and flatten the surface and give material to block sand. Epoxy primer is a good option for priming over bare metal.

Is there any High Build Surfacer that DOES NOT absorb moisture? Car is down to metal. Will shoot Self Etch Primer. Then do Body work. Then want to put on Surfacer.....but may not get to base coat for a while!

Epoey Primer can be applied over the high build, that would take care of your moisture issue.

Just primed my lotus and it looks great. How long can I wait until I can top coat. How can I tell if moisture gets in or not?

Asked by: Tombuck
There really is not a maximum time frame to top coat this. It can be top coated whenever as long as it is block sanded first. You will visibly be able to see if moisture gets into this primer. If it will be subjected to moisture or humidity we strongly recommend top coating this with a sealer coat of Epoxy reduced by 20% with Urethane reducer.

If you spray on a car that is garaged will the moisture in the air be enough to cause harm over two weeks?

Asked by: Tombuck
Yes, this primer will absorb moisture. If it will be exposed to moisture you would be best to apply a sealer coat of Epoxy primer reduced by 20% with Urethane reducer.

To apply to bare steel, What constitutes properly prepared steel? What grit sandpaper? Cleaned with what recommended degreaser? Should it have a primer on it first?, this is a beige statement and needs clarification.

Asked by: Emargerum
Prepping the steel can be done by sanding with 80-180 grit sand paper and then cleaning with a wax and grease remover such as our Pre Painting Prep.
