How to MIG Weld

Now that you've purchased a MIG welder, we'd like to give you some tips so you're laying beautiful beads on your first project. This video will walk you through the basic steps while showing you some tricks so you can weld with confidence from the start.

To begin welding, make sure you have all of the proper safety gear like a welding helmet, jacket and gloves as well as a cart to secure your welder and gas bottle, which must be secured in a cart. And don't forget a heavy duty welder extension cord if you don't have an outlet near your project. Copper backers and spoons are perfect if you're doing sheet metal work because they'll help prevent blow-through, which can be tough to avoid if you're just starting. Stitch weld magnets are awesome for holding sheet metal patches in place and a welding table is a great place to work on small projects. And don't forget a consumables kit and extra spools of welding wire - nothing is worse than being in the middle of a project and running out of wire!
