Basecoat Paint Kit is a low-VOC system, so it meets regulatory limits in highly-regulated areas, eliminating the need to switch to a waterborne system.
BASECOAT PAINT MIXING RATIOS Thoroughly mix four parts Low-VOC Urethane Basecoat with one part Low-VOC Urethane Activator. Use Fast (50308ZP) for small jobs, or temps below 75°F; Medium (50309ZP) for small jobs, or temps between 70-85°F; or Slow (50310ZP) for large jobs, or temps above 80°F. Keep in mind, other factors, such as humidity, air flow and total film thickness should also be considered. In many situations, it will be useful to add 10%-20% 50104ZP Zero-VOC Reducer to aid sprayabliity, flow and leveling. Remember, this is an activated basecoat system; only mix as much as is needed. Pot life is about 2 hours at 70°F.
PAINT GUN SET-UP HVLP Gun: Fluid Tip 1.2-1.4 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 8-10 psi Conventional Gravity: Fluid Tip 1.2-1.5 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 40-50 psi Conventional Siphon: Fluid Tip: 1.3-1.6 mm Inlet Spray Pressure 40-50 psi
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS Apply Low-VOC Urethane Basecoat color in two full medium wet coats with a consistent 50% overlap pattern. Allow five to ten minutes flash time between coats. Flash time should increase if additional coats are applied. Most colors will cover in two coats.
Basecoat should dry dust-free within 10-20 minutes. May be lightly sanded in as few as 20 minutes. Wait at least 30 minutes before wet sanding. Wait 45-90 minutes before taping on the fresh film. All dry times are approximate, at 70°. Temperature, air flow, total film thickness and other variable may extend these times.

Bill's paint experienceThe paint does not match the color swatch in the Eastwood store. It is so very much more brighter. Still, I was able to combine it with another Eastwood color to achieve the perfect match I was looking for. I wish Eastwood would offer half pints for testing and mix-matching purposes. My adventure involved purchasing two separate gallons totaling more than $440. I could have went with a local auto paint store customizing the color for less $. Still, this paint is an excellent Eastwood product ! highly recommend.

Buy locallyI bought this paint 3 years ago to paint my 95 F-150, I had some damage to my hood and roof and needed to repaint it. I reordered the same paint I originally used, but the paint I received was several shades darker. Also the original paint has faded very badly. Now I will have to repaint the whole truck again to match the color of the new paint. My advice is to buy your paint locally cause if you ever have any paint damage you can not get good paint match from this company.
Is there somewhere I can get better veins of the color?

The only other ways to view this than on our website would be at any one of our retail location or by ordering the chip chart on our website https://www.eastwood.com/ew-branded-color-paint-chart.html.

How much of this will I need to paint an Infiniti G35 Coupe from it's stock Diamond Graphite (Dark Silver) color.
Asked by: Brent
This Paint will cover approximately 160 sq.ft. per gallon. if you are going to do the door jams, underhood, and the trunk areas, we would suggest getting 2 gallons right away. Mix both gallons in their can, after they have been thoroughly mixed in their own can, then pour the paint into a larger clean plastic bucket, mix the 2 gallons together. after the paints have been mixed, pour the mixed paint back into the gallon can and replace the lid. Now your paint will always match, even if you have to redo a panel at some other time.

Do I need to add reducer in this paint if the ambient temperature about 80-80F? The car is black and has grey primer patches now, do I need to primer it to make it a uniform color before spray this base coat on?
Asked by: Aaron
Reducer is not necessary but strongly recommended- especially when spraying in higher temperatures. For best results you would want to apply a primer or sealer to have one uniform finish before applying your paint.

Given that this is a “faint metallic”, can it be colour sanded prior to clear, or should this still be avoided?
Asked by: Matt
With any Metallica paint it is always best to apply the clear over your paint, and then sand your clear. If you do need to sand the base coat for some reason, sand and then apply another coat of paint and then the clear.
