I got a chance to shoot my Chevy Small Block a couple of weeks ago. I was really impressed with how nice it went on, and it seems to be a very durable finish. I used the product according to directions, , ie 4:1 ratio with the hardener, and a slight amount of reducer. It covered well over a properly prepped block (hot tanked) and the aftermarket heads that had been bead blasted. The result: the job is a nice glossy finish. Looking forward to assembly and dropping in into my project.

Last Fall, I used Eastwood Ceramic Chevy Orange Engine Paint mixed with the catalyst/activator to paint my original 1969 Corvette 427 engine, heads and oil pan. I applied the first coat with cheap Wal-Mart sponge brushes, and then followed-up using a paint gun with a 1.8 mm tip for the final coat. The paint went on smooth with a beautiful gloss finish. Like the other customer, I also had sprung a leak and anti-freeze also got on the new paint. However, I was able to wipe-off most of the anti-freeze and then rinse it off after cooling. Thankfully, the paint held up well and did NOT have any adverse reactions where the antifreeze touched. Overall, this is a good, durable paint, and the color is a perfect original match; as with many of its products, Eastwood shipping is rather high. I plan use it again for future rebuilds.

If you are able to use a spray gun, this is the stuff to get. I recommend getting the activator which makes it cure like a rock and smooth as glass. Follow the instructions and wait (at least) 20 minutes between coats. The first time I used it, I (tried) to rush the job and got runs - my fault. I sanded them out and yesterday the job came out beautiful. In my instance, I needed 3 coats for full coverage. I didn't use any reducer and wouldn't recommend that you do either. Adding the activator makes it good to shoot out of a spray gun.

I used this paint on my engine, went on beautiful nice and smooth, everything looked great until a pin hole in my lower radiator hose spayed a little antifreeze on the block, everywhere the antifreeze touched this paint it turned white, you could not wipe it off or clean it up. This is the worst paint I have ever used on a engine, I stripped everything back down and used the rattle can spray paint on it, and guess what -- I threw some antifreeze on it just to test a theory and NO problems no spots I guess the expensive stuff isn't always the best after all. I even contacted a representative from Eastwood and all he had to say was that's what antifreeze does to "all" paints.....yeah okay, I guess the boys at Dupli color figured out something these guys forgot.

This paint is very good in terms of quality and application, and looks very good when applied. It's tough too, much better than the rattle can engine enamel found in the parts stores.

However, my one gripe is the color. If you are looking for the original blue color for the chevy inline six engines of the '50s, then keep looking. The color sold by Eastwood is much too light and won't win you any VCCA shows. Other than that, no problems. I'm sure the more popular colors, such as Chevy orange and Ford blue, are spot on though.
