Eastwood PCS-250 Dual Voltage Powder Coating Gun

Product Overview:

Description

PCS-250 Powder Coating Gun

The Eastwood PCS-250 Dual-Voltage HotCoat™ Powder Coating Gun gives you complete coverage from tight areas to large surfaces while operating on standard 120v household current. This innovative system will allow you to achieve the benefits of powder coating small parts instead of coating them with paint. This new and improved dual-voltage system gives you the capability to coat small areas using the low 15kv setting or coat large areas using the high-voltage setting 25kv. All you need is a compressed air source (5-10 PSI from a portable tank with a regulator or a compressor) to power your gun, an electric oven or toaster oven to cure the finish and a well-ventilated workspace in which to do your coating. This new and improved gun features color-coded cabling, larger ground clamp, increased trigger room and a clear bottle so you can see the powder color and fluidizing action.

  • Extremely durable finish
  • Coat and cure in under an hour!

(Q) How long does the baking process take?
(A) For improved flow out (less "orange peel"), bake coated parts at 500 degreesF until powder flows out (about 3-4 minutes for light sheet metal parts), then turn down the heat to 400 degreesF for a full 15 minutes.

(Q) What are the electrical requirements?
(A) This HotCoat Gun requires 110-125VAC, 2 amps at 50-60 Hz. Can be used with a voltage transformer such as 220-240VAC to 110-125VAC as long as the transformer can handle 2 amps.

Safety Information

Use a disposable dust mask when handling or applying powder. Powder, like common flour, can be explosive when suspended in the air in high concentrations. To minimize any explosion risk, sweep up—do not vacuum—powder from the floor. Cure powder in a well-ventilated area. The urethane powders we sell liberate a very minute amount of isocyanates when the powder flows out. This usually occurs about 3-5 minutes after the part is placed in the oven to bake. Wear a respirator with fresh filter cartridges when curing or inspecting flow-out progress.

Application Tips

Why Powder Coat? What are the Advantages of Powder Coating?

The PCS-250 Dual-Voltage HotCoat gun is one of the best powder coating guns on the market today. Why powder coat? Because it gives you one of the most economical, color-durable and longest-lasting finishes available. You'll find powder coated surfaces are far more resistant to chipping, scratches, fading, and wear than other finishes, and the color selection is virtually unlimited, with high and low gloss, metallic, and clear finishes available. And thanks to the UV resistance of many of the powders, colors stay bright and vibrant longer.

Texture selections range from smooth surfaces to a wrinkled or matte finish, plus rough textures designed for hiding surface imperfections. One 8 oz. bottle of powder (not included) covers the same area as 2-3 cans of spray paint, and clean-up is easy since you can simply sweep-up the over-sprayed powder. This powder can be reused as well if it's not contaminated. Eastwood powders contain no environmentally harmful solvents so you can be planet-conscious as well. HotCoat powder coating requires a 5-10 psi compressed air source and a dedicated electric oven (or toaster oven).

Can I Powder Coat in My Own Garage or Shop?

Owning a dual-voltage electric powder coating gun means you can apply this technique to springs, valve covers, tri-flow radiators, vehicle body panels and anything else that needs a quality finish. One quick-change empty powder bottle is included and you can easily add more. The tool is designed to our exact specifications with a handheld activation switch, air inlet, removable diverter tip and grounding system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for DIY Worth every penny. This gun is super easy to set up and use. Definitely get an inline water separator and air regulator makes a huge difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding I have used this powder coating gun for at least 10 years. Single voltage and dual voltage. It has served me well. Does an excellent job. I believe no need for the more expensive unit. The dual voltage unit has stopped working after 10 years, so got my value out of it, hence the replacement. It is really good value at the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood powder coating gun. Great product and price. Was easy to use and the results were amazing. Your wife will not be happy if you use here toaster oven, so I recommend you buy a dedicated oven for powder coating.

Questions & Answers

Would a small toaster oven work for curing or does it need a large house hold oven… I don’t have room in my garage for a large oven. Also don’t have an extra 220v plug. What temps does the oven need to hit?

Asked by: Troy
A small toaster oven will work 400 degrees to totally cure

Do you have transformer so I can use Eastwood PCS-250 Dual Voltage Powder Coating Gun on 230v in Norway?

Asked by: Hans_Kr
Have you tried to build a motor generator? You take 230vac 50hz motor and use it to drive 220vac 60hz motor. The motor speeds need to be identical. The 60hz motor has to draw more current than you need. We in the us use this method to drive 3 phase equipment with only single phase is available. The key is to find a 110/220vac 60hz motor that has the amperage you need. Most motors are like a transformer. They don’t care which direction the current flows.  You can take a step up transformer and hook it up with the output voltage and her step down voltage going out. Problem is your neutral comes from the actual input side. So if you take a 3phase 120/208 to 480vav transformer there is no way to get 277vac because of no neutral. I probably confused the heck out of you. You need to get an ac motor that takes 120/220 vac to run it and hook another motor to drive the first motor. As long as the first motor is rated at the current draw you need then the input wires to that motor become output vac to power the different vac/hz device.

I recently bought the PCS-250 dual voltage and was wondering if the voltage toggle switch it supposed to light up when pressing the button? On my PCS-150 there is a red light that comes on which indicates charging gun when the button is pressed.

Asked by: BoltOn Mounts
From a user standpoint, the toggle switch should be an illuminated switch to show when it is plugged in and your are getting power, but unfortunately they did not put one on these. A huge overlook in my opinion.

Does this new model fix the blow-by the old bottle had where it leaks since there is no seal?

Asked by: Anon
Nope. There is no seal on this one either. They should have an o-ring in place where the bottle screws onto the gun. Mine is nearly brand new and the first thing I noticed was how much powder is leaking out of the bottle threads. Sadly, this is one of many places for obvious improvement on this gun.

Most people will utilize a large oven like our #33273 but we also have numerous heat lamps from Infratech that can cure powder.

Can you do two coats with this gun? A base coat and then a top coat?

Asked by: Cameron
On small parts yes this is possible. You would use the low voltage for the original coat and then the higher voltage for the second.
