Product Overview:
Description
UNDERHOOD BLACKĀ® Matte is the correct shade of black, having just the right matte finish many older car manufacturers used on radiator supports, inner fenders, firewalls, underhood brackets, and other parts. Hardware store black paints are either too thick, too glossy, or the wrong color. Just clean, degrease, and prepare the parts well, then spray on for a "factory-like" finish. This acrylic lacquer withstands up to 250Ā° F and goes on thin for a smooth finish that will not hide surface details. Made in the USA. Coverage approx 6 sq ft. 5%-9% Gloss Level.

Use Underhood Black for the correct matte black finish used on inner fender, fire walls, brackets, and more on many cars. Underhood Black is an acrylic lacquer and withstands up to 250 degrees F. Use PRE Painting Prep (10041 Z) to remove residual grease/oil before painting. Use Self Etch Primer (16014 Z) Aerosol or (16009 ZP) Quart on clean metal surfaces. Note: Underhood Black is a Lacquer Paint. Do not use with ENAMEL primers. Use these products in a well ventilated area, or use a respirator.

Outstanding finish
A great looking finish when applied to properly prepped metal surfaces. This is a lacquer paint intended for use with Eastwood's self-etching lacquer primer. Do not apply this product on any
cured enamel or acrylic enamel painted surface. It will not adhere properly.

I'm glad I trusted Eastwood! Well worth the price.
This is the closest color match I have found for my 1974 Chevy. Sprays nice, lays great. I would recommend using the primer with it as well.

Perfect color match
I have used the under hood paint several times now with excellent results. Have onlt had one issue with fish eyes until I used rust encapsulator as a base coat (also an excellent Eastwood product)

Looks great!
Restoring my '70 Chevy C10 stepside. Doing a full repaint. Used Underhood semi-gloss black on my new radiator core, brackets, and headlight bezels. Very impressed with the even application. Exactly what I was looking for.

understand the product
This paint is lacquer based, it is harder than enamel that is why it can chip easier than regular rattle can paint. When restoring cars I use this paint for odds and ends brackets, inner fenders and firewall walls with great results. you need to know the product so your not disappointed, Don't use this on parts that get a lot of abuse, use enamel instead.

Very good paint
I've used this paint for years and it is great for many uses. I use it on bolts after cleaning and they look brand new. It is durable and chemical resistant.

Questions & Answers
I have used 2 cans of under hood matte black lacquer almost completed my job, needed one more, order 2 just in case. Will take 2 weeks. What do I need to go over touch up areas or can I do this at all? recommended? I know it says 1-2 hrs. For 2 weeks?
As long as the surface it scuffed with a Scotch guard Pad (RED) then a Pre Paint Prep before adding additional paint

How durable is this, will it withstand gas, brake fluid, or carb cleaner spills?
For resistance against the referenced you would be best to go with the 2k Underhood black paint in comparison.

I had to due some touch up work on my control arms. Someplaces had to be sanded down to bare metal, I used your primer 16114Z, now the Underhood Matte Black keeps wrinkling up around the edges, what primer should I use under the Matte Black Underhood?
We recommend Extreme Chassis Black Primer (11193) or the 2K Epoxy Primer Black (14149)
The self etching primer you used is a Lacquer base product and not suitable as a base for the paint you are using.

Would this be a good paint for an oil bath air cleaner? Not as hot as the engine block, but still pretty warm.
Yes this would be a good paint to use on your air cleaner and will withstand the heat in the engine compartment.

Should seam sealer be applied before or after painting?
Seam sealer should be applied before you paint

At what air pressure should you spray the underhood black low gloss finish from Eastwood
That would depend on the gun you are using but generally it would be 25-30 PSI

I have a 280Z eng compartment with mix of painted and bare metal, body putty, and Rust Encapsulator areas all pre-prepped. What are next best steps for a very durable matte black finish? Thank you.
I would abrade over everything with 320 grit paper, clean and degrease with our PRE and apply 2-3 coats of this over everything for best results.
