The body of the switch is a 2-piece barrel. The design allows the inner portion to be extended or retracted within the outer housing with a friction fit. When installed, the switch is fully extended and the first time the door is closed it button is pushed into the switch and when fully compressed, the inner portion with the button is pushed into the outer barrel. When the door is fully closed the switch is set. If is necessary to adjust the switch as in a door or jamb repair, you simply grip the inner button portion with pliers and gently extend it, close the door and you're done. Remember to leave some slack in the wire (a small loop works best) when installing the switch to prevent binding or pulling as the wire and button move in and out.
