Pure Sine Wave Versus Modified Sine Wave

All power inverters convert DC power (which is power stored in batteries) to AC power, which is the power supplied by the electric company and fed to your home. Electronic devices need AC power to operate, but power inverters generally output power in two forms, modified sine wave vs. pure sine wave.


  • Pure sine is a direct replica of the power in your house, and it’s what all 110 Volt electronic devices are made to run on (i.e. anything with a 2 or 3 prong plug).

  • The more sensitive the device, the less likely it will work well on a Modified Sine. For example induction plates for cooking won’t run on Modified sine.

  • Newer devices such as camera batteries, air purifiers, computers, tablets, LED TV’s, power tools, etc. may be damaged over time when used on a modified sine wave.

  • Pure sine is more efficient. The best example is with boiling 1 cup of water in a microwave: on a pure sine it takes 1 minute, on a modified sine it takes 2. Using less energy means you can use more devices, or save money by installing less solar or batteries.

While unit is large and was a challenge to find an adequate mounting location, it works awesome. Powers the refrigerator and microwave without any problems. I have yet to hear the cooling fans come on. I ran 00 battery cables from the battery to the unit even though the distance was only 4 feet. The unit was easy to hook up and I really like the remote control feature. I was able to mount the remote inside the electronic Control panel for convenience. The only thing I didn’t like was the instruction sheet, very limited amount of information available. I had to refer back to the product page on Eastwood’s web site questions I had in regard to cable size and mounting clearances. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very dependable unit!!! Bought the Eastman 2000 watt version (only because you did not carry the 3000w unit at the time) and that thing is a beast, especially for the price! I ran a full size washer, medium sized refrigerator some led lighting and a 55" TV. It never missed a beat and the cooling fans never had to kick in. Fans do work properly, they have came on briefly when I was running a 1500w electric heater, however, it was the only item connected at the time. I have had a few inverters and most will not handle that abuse for very long before they fail. The 2000w is still going strong. I have had it for about a year now. Haven't looked at the internal components, but it must use very quality components to handle my demands, and I do tend to push things to their limits. My brother just bought the 3000w unit, so will have to see how it holds up. Price can't be beat for quality, dependability and being a "pure sinewave" inverter. I give these 6 stars. By the way, these are meant to be used with a quality Bank of deep cycle batteries, and heavy gauge wire. DO NOT use any smaller wire leads than 2 gauge, and make sure you use quality lugs (very important) to battery and at the connection point on the inverter. Low quality lugs can over heat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from terrible product , terrible service I purchase the inverter and it does not work out of the box , just like that ,the protection red light when on since the beginning , i call tech support and they ask me what system i was using . i use 0000 cable , marine deep cycle batteries and had 13.80 dc v comming in . i turn it on off many times and finaly 3 days later it work . them 3 month later did the same problem , i connect another marine battery in parallel to got more juice and see if it work , nothing . 1 week later i try to turn it on again and the fans star working for 48 hours consecutive until runout my bateries , ridiculus after that never work for 3 months 3 days ago i decide to try again and this time the unit blow the 30 amp fuse i call again and they said there is nothing they can do , i send emails and no response i call again to try to get an electrical plan of the circuit or any instructions how to fix it , and nothing . very bad experience

I drive a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia that has an EPU vs an APU. My truck has a total of 8 batteries. 4 for the truck and 4 for the EPU system. Will this system work in my truck??

Does the wired remote include a 12v ignition lockout feature? I need the inverter to power down if the vehicle ignition/acc is switched off.

The remote is a simple on off button. You'll want to find a way to cut power going to the inverter other than the remote.

If I wanted to use this as backup power in a home, what size battery would I need to run a refrigerator for 8 hours?

This would require a very large battery bank depending on the size of the refrigerator. Most full size fridges will require somewhere in the ball park of 750 watts to run. With this times the 8 hours you'll be running off of battery power you'll need upwards of a 1200 amp hour battery bank.

Can a 3000W be used with 12V car battery and car and alternator running, to power a full size refrigerator, computer, TV and a few lights? Will the alternator keep the battery charged? I plan to use the inverter for home power emergencies.

This greatly depends on the size of the alternator. You would need to ensure it's large enough to keep the battery topped off as you consume power.

can you hard wire to panel box for further distribution areas

You can certainly hardwire this into a panel box for further distribution. Just make sure there's a way to disconnect the inverter from the system before land power is applied to protect and isolate the inverter.
